  1. Hello raiders, apologies for not posting up reports, been busy with work, festive season, BDAYS, getaways and the rest. TODAY, i went with Stewy to Cooks River and had a ball. See stewy's report. Well here is what i have been up to over the past few months. GEORGES RIVER 21-10-2010 Late November i visited the local waters and managed to crack a new PB.... Got a EP measuring at 40.5cm (PB) casting a double jointed rapala lure, deep diver... In addition managed to score x1 jewie at around 60cm on a soft plastic.... GEORGES RIVER 22-10-2010 Returned to Georges the following night and managed to scroed x2 more jewies at around 60cm both on soft plastics..... THE ENTRANCE 10-12-2010 Went for a flick to the Entrance with a mate and managed to score a nice feed of 11 flatties, many EP and smaller flatties were released. THE ENTRANCE 26-12-2010 Went for a flick to the Entrance with Fisher_Doi (Johnny) and friends, to teach them the art of fishing. Managed to score a nice feed of 13 flatties, many EP and smaller flatties were released. THE ENTRANCE 06-01-2011 Went for a flick to the Entrance with my mate and his father to also teach them the art of fishing. Managed to score over 30 flatties, kept 17 for the BBQ to feed the tribe, biggest going around 60cm... In addition over a dozen EP, kept one at 35cm, and a reasonable bream. GERROA 10 to 17-01-2011 Went to Gerroa for a BDAY week getaway. Went to one section of the river were it pours into the ocean and to my surprise managed to get x3 flatties, x1 mullet, x1 bream @35cm, on a 7cm Double Jointed Rapala lure, all in 1 hour. Went back the day after and downgraded to a 5cm Double Jointed Rapala lure. Scored another 5 flatties in 1 hour. Went back the third day and scored another 5 flatties and another smaller bream.

  5. HAHHAHHHAA well done, at least she had the will to go out for a fishing session.... I dont understand, why are women scared of fish (mine included) and photos as well.... Mine loves eating fish, cooking it, but when it comes to cleaning or handling it, she wants to throw up
  6. WELL DONE, nice report.... Sounds like a fun session..... @ blackfishfishing, there are plenty of smelly pike in Botany Bay..... I like the way they attack the lure, but the fight does not complement the initial hit.....
  7. WELL done, thats a WOPPER of a trev...... WHATS going on, your kids are catching all the big ones.... YOUR kids must be very happy to have a father, like yourself.... Keep the report coming.... Looks like i will need to hit Botany Bay soon.... Water is starting to warm up.....
  8. FISH 2 I would like to submit my Jewfish, using a 4kg rod, 1000 reel, 4lb braid (no leader), 8cm plastic, 1/2 oz jig head.... Report HERE

  11. I like it awesome session you must have experienced.... Georges is firing up.... Congrats on your new PB's.... That Numbfish is one of a kind..... Keep the reports coming....
  12. DOnt know the exact name, but yes, a squidgie..... The retrieve method was the standard, x2 flicks, but like i said, mainly got hit on the first fall...
  13. @ Stippy - NOW i need to experience the buzz of a bigGER jew on my light gear... Cant wait... @ jewdreamer - This particular spot, i was shown by Josh, and i have to respect his wishes and keep it a hush... Sorry... @ Nanook - THANKS mate, sorry for stealing your "tsunami" title @ bloopin - I was asked to move out to the CBD, but i think ill stay in the west, and like you said, afternoon flick after work... @ bassboy888 - Ive been hearing from so many anglers, that the jews have moved further upstream, hence my persistancy to catch one (many) landbased. @ snag - Thanks mate, ive been buzzing over the past few days need to get my weekly dosage (might go out onight) @ mccmark - Your right, the rain sent the jew fish crazy.... With this current capture, ive only caught jews when it rained, and late hours of the night, jet to catch one during daylight hrs... @ Langa - I tryed using lures, blades, as they cary many treble hooks, thinking it has a higher chance of hooking the jew.... BUT due to the strong current and the depth, had to use heavy jig heads... @ Juzza - I was lead to believe that jew fish dont particularly rely on sight, i was told that they have some sort of a sonar in the head, plus those dots on the side are some sort of sensors (someone correct me if i am wrong)... No the are does not need to be well lit, this particular spot was very dark... No light in sight... When i was taking photos, i couldnt see half a meter in front of me, and i had to guess where the fish was..
  14. Hello Raiders, Well this year i have decided to target Jewfish using soft plastics. Thanks once again to Jewgaffer (Byron) for introducing me to fisher doi (Johnny), who also introduced me to his mate Josh. Over the past 3-4 weeks a lot of hours have been invested, into fishing and learning how to catch the Jewfish. A lot of bi-catch was caught BUT persistence paid of. My first visit to the local waters, i was rewarded with my first Jewfish at 50cm, previous report http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=50975. Few days ago, visiting Georges River with Josh, we must have had over 20 hits that particular night, but failed to hook the bloody things. Tantrums and foul language echoed throughout the area I was using a 4kg rod, 1000 reel, 4lb braid (no leader), 8cm plastic, 1/2 oz jig head as the current was pretty strong, and the depth was at 4-5 meters. One particular cast i was hit 6-7 times but failed to hook the Jew. Think i was reacting too fast. Another particular cast i managed to set the hook, a short run later, and it bit me off. ALL the hits experienced were on the drop, closer to the bottom. Persistency paid of and finally i was on. The whole experience, the fight, the rod bending, and the reel screaming, my body experienced a massive rush of adrenalin Being lost in my own little world, instead of tightening the spool, i loosed it and the reel screamed even harder (idiot, thought to myself). Did not have a net, so i had to beach the Jewfish on a bed of slippery rocks (not a good idea). Finally something descent, with my second Jewfish (PB) being at @64cm. Boy do they look gorgeous and fight hard on light gear. Itching for some more Jewfish action, i went the following night, by myself. This time i upgraded to a 6lb braid and some 6lb leader (heavy duty) after seeing how toothy the Jewfish were. This time i was determined to catch some more. Once again i experienced the same attack on the lure, BUT this time i tested, as to how long do i wait before i react to set the hook. That night NOT only did i catch another Jewfish BUT managed to score x3 in total. I had to jump in the water (knee high) to pull them out of the water At the end of my session, I had the biggest smile on my face and it was time to head home. SORRY about the quality of the images, it was very dark and my digital camera is not the best. 1st 2nd 3rd OVERALL, I must say the Jewfish are pretty hard to hook up using soft plastics. And what amazes me, is how it attacks the plastic lure. NOW time to order some more jig heads and return to the waters. Tight lines and ill see you fellas at the social (my first attendance). Regards Joey
  15. Welcome James, thats one big "pike" (if thats what its called) in your profile picture..... Im from eastern europe, and too i used to catch them with my father and brother, as a kid... Wish they had then here in OZ, but i replaced it by targeting Jewfish There are plenty of great individuals on the forum, and im sure someone will snap you up for a fish.... Attend the socail this Sunday....

  22. Hey Musty, thank you for the post.... Since i started fishing the Chipping Norton area, couple of days ago, i decided to do some research in regards to water quality, BUT more so to find out if it Ok to consume fish from the local waterways.... Then i stumbled across your post... What can i say, it horrible, like you said, hopefully the heavy rains have washed it away and diluted the toxins..... Lets hope for a fast recovery.... Might bump into you one day
  23. WELL it all depends on what im chasing... If i am after bream, flatties, and other by-catch using 4lb braid, i avoid using leader... Over many years of fishing, i have lost way too many big fish, due to the mono leader (6-8lb), being cut of by the fish, and also, there is a RISK that the leader will snap off from too much strain.... As a result, and a high propability of catching a flatty that are know to destroy leaders, i decide to stick with direct tie on, from braid to the snap on swivle.... I assume your a big fan of using leader??? Am i doing something wrong.... Please tell...
  24. THANKS everyone.... Going tomorrow to do it ALL again This time with a net, and a proper camera
  25. GREAT results, good to see the fish in a nice, fat, healty state.... Well done....
