  1. well done on your 1st kingy mate, sure wouldv been a great tussle on the gear you were using, even though it wasnt a legal fish.ALL kings go hard at any size.congats monch & good fishing to you. cheers johnny.
  2. gday raiders, had a plastic flick yesterday with mate josh.started around moorebank[i think] at a spot we never fished before on the other side of the boatramp, not far from flower power.the walk in was a bit wet & scarey, tall grass & reed higher than our heads.thank god it wasnt hot & the snakes werent around.we wernt sure if there was any fishible bank along there as the bankside vegetation was soo thick.we found a 50m strecth of bank that we could fish.first few cast resulted in chopper tailor.the bait was thick as we were fishing next to a little feeder creek & mangroves.on that bank,we proceeded to land half dozen flattys from about 35-40cms.i also pulled the hooks on a reasonable suspected bream or ep.it tore a foot of drag & then the hooks pulled.josh also dropped a mid 30's bream whilst lifting it from the water.once the tide picked up a bit of pace, the bait moved on with the current & it got a bit quiet.we left there after 90mins.on the walk back to the car, there was a couple walking their dogs,4 big dogs & not on leashes.josh got a bit worried & decided to try a little beach whilst they past.josh landed another 40cm flatty on his first cast & after 5 more casts each the dogs had past & the coast was clear. from there we drove down to deepwater park.the current was truely pumping through there & it was hard goin.we had to switch to heavier jigheads which in turn resulted in alot more snags than we were happy with.from where we parked the car,we worked the bank for a km or so till we were under the m5 bridge.we were silently hoping to hit a patch of soapy jew or eps.instead i got 2 more flattys of similar size to the others casting up current & working my plastics back with the flow.josh got 1 fishing along side the pylons. by that stage,11am,we were loosing motivation due to the lack in action.plus its harder for us landbased lure tossers to fish effectively in such a fast flowing water so we called it a day.not the most action filled session & no big fish caught but as always it just great to be out there having a flick.we suspect that at the spot at moorebank,if the bait hangs around the area for a bit,it might produce a jew or 2 on livebaits or bigger plastics or blades.we'l be back there to give it a solid go. on the way home we stopped by the local tackle store & got reliable reports that a haul of 20 school jew to 50cms were landed around my local waters which is great to hear.the only bad thing is that it was on a boat so its gona be a bit harder for me & josh being on land but our enthousiasm is high & we are that bit more motivated now after hearing that.we'l be out there during the week a few arvos trying to find em as theres no fishing for me today as iv got a wedding to attend. sorry for the long post again raiders, cheers johnny. P.S.hope everyone enjoys their anzac day.LEST WE FORGET.
  3. hi stewy,is there any chance of fitting me in for one of those jew sessions,or anything for that matter.iv had a bit if sucess landbased but have never fished the river by boat so it would be much appreciated if you could take me along also.is that asking too much??? cheers johnny. p.s. i understand if theres not any space to fit me on your boat stewy, just thought id ask.
  4. woohoo!!!im so happy for you nath,i know how much you were looking forward to getting your boat mate.sorry i havnt smsd you back,im low on credit.so where you planning on taking her for the first time,id reccomend a quiet waterway with a ramp that doesnt get crowded. you know if you need company,im just a call away mate.we need to have a fish together b4 you go overseas bro,4sure.been getting a couple more jew hookups at THE spot. btw,has she got a sounder???give me a call soon if you can,i cant ring you cos as i said,im low on credit.congratulations on the boat once again & im sure you'l get onto some great fish, hopefully with me in company.haha. cheers johnny.

  6. great read basscatcher & some nice fish landed.so you didnt target the jew that day?well done on a good session & getting a newby fisho a pb.hope to read of some jew caught in your posts soon.maybe i can join you if you need some company?i havnt had much experience on fishing lures on boats & would love to give it a go. cheers johnny.
  7. thats a ripsnorter of a breambo mate, well done.& to get him on a 5in jerkshad, wow,he mustv been hungry.cracker bream mate,id definately be happy with that.not a jew but stil a very respectable plastic caught bream.what gear were you using??? cheers johnny.
  8. hi raiders, i was in the tackle store the other day & noticed the shimano navi.it was in the smaller 2000-4000 sizes.iv seen on a couple dvds of the bigger models being used[10,000 size]& it handled big gts & queenies pretty good. i just wanted to know if any raiders know anything about these reels & if so,are they any good???the guy at the tackle store didnt know much about em,said they were given them but not told much about their performance. i wana know cos im looking to buy a new reel for plastic fishing as my 2500 sienna is on its last legs.i cant afford much as im not working atm so my budget is pretty limited,$150 absolute maximum! any feedback will be greatly appreciated, cheers johnny.
  9. good onya on getting some bream on plastics.now that youv started using em,its hard to stop using anything else.iv been exclusively using plastics on my last 20 odd sessions with some suprising good results.havnt used bait in ages.like breambucket said, mix up the retreives,it depends on the fishes mood on how theyl smash a plastic.once you find out what they want on the day, stick with it & you should come up trumps.whilst targeting jew on bigger plastics using squidgy fish pattern,iv landed some big bream which was a suprise for me as i havnt caught many bream using that pattern plastic.just goes to show,if theyr hungry & you work the lure right, theyl wallop it even if its a bigger lure.keep at mate,im keen to read some of your future posts of big fish on plastics. cheers johnny.
  10. hey pete, good onya for taking a old timer out & teaching him how to use blades & plastics.sounds like you guys had a good day on the water.if your ever looking for some1 to fish with mate,im keen so shoot a pm my way if you need company. cheers johnny.

  13. hi guys, thanx for the kind words.just got back from a 2hr session.persisted in the rain in the storm front for only a flatty each for me & josh. STEWY,the water up there has been pretty good.today it was a bit murkier but not chocolate.theres been lots of bait around in the form of mullet, herring & chopper tailor. BASSCATCHER,the jig head i usually start off with is usually 1/0 hook & 3.5gram head.the bigger jew i caught was on a size 4 hook,3gram head & 3in grub tail.wasnt expecting a jew that time, mostly bream & flattys.since then,we pretty much run 1-2/0 hook on 1/8th,i think.3.5gm-7gm,1/4 ounce since specificly targeting the jew.the 86cm jew caught on tuesday was on a pre-rigged 100mm storm wildeye swim shad in the 3/8th[10gm] weight & geussing it was a 2/0 hook.both jew landed were solid in the corner of the jaw. the jew josh hooked up to ended in a pulled hook on a pink squidgy fish 100mm.the 1 that busted me off on structure was on the tough old squidgy shad in black/gold colour. we'l be out after em again tomorrow LB but will be pretty much all day session.chasing jew on the tide changes & bream & flattys inbetween.hope we get a few.the rain doesnt bother us,we'r keen as.lol.will let you know how we go.im not registered to fish the pirtek challenge, but if any1 needs company, boat or LB,let me know. CHEERS JOHNNY.
  14. hi mate, well done, nice bream.bet you were surprised when you got him up,using mince.btw, where about in the georges do you catch your yakkas????didnt know you can get yakkas in the georges.is it in the lower reaches, near the front of the river.pm me if you dont wana broadcast where it is.thanx mate. cheers johnny.
  15. gday raiders, thought id share with you my latest noteworthy catch from 6-4-10[tuesday].fishing plastics around my local waters chippo.fishing the high tide & the start of the runout,me & josh started in a channel where in the last couple days we both dropped a jew each on plastics.[we only fish lures around there]started off well with a nice fat bream in the mid 30cm range, hopes were high.we were both fishing squidgy fish pattern plastics in the same colour, grasshopper.we always fish different colours but we both rigged up at home b4 meeting so i thought when i loose this lure il change.after landing the bream, choppers made short work of it. anyways we persisted in the rain with plenty lure changes for no result besides josh landing a high 40cm dusky flatty.we were about to call it quits cos of the lack of action & rain, plus we thought we missed the tide, therefore missing the jew bite.josh decided to try 1 last spot on the other side of the waterway hoping we might pick up a couple flathead b4 the sun was gone.at that stage[after 2-3hrs of casting & searching] i had a prerigged 3in storm shad softy on.i was casting across the mouth of a feeder creek where the water isnt more than 2-3mtrs deep.3rd cast, zzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZzzzz.im on big time.this fish moved fast toward the creek & heading straight for a big sunken tree.at that point i made the split decision to chase it.i handed josh my mobile to josh & went in the water.i was waist deep & shaking like a leaf.rain was falling, sun sinking in the sky & i had a big angry fish heading for the snag.he didnt quite make it to the tree,i held him off it about 2mtrs away from danger.he held his ground just sitting & shaking his head violently.this went on for about 3-5 tense minutes before he tired a bit & i could lead him out to open clear water.the whole fight lasted about 10mins in total.id work him close & he'd make a short burst.i knew i had him beat,he was mine.josh grabbed him by the gills & i was pumped, wet, cold but high on addrenilin.hi 5's & pats on the back.id landed another nice school jew within 2-3wks of my previous jew.he went 86cms & estimated around 5kgs or 10-12lb.it was landed on the same outfit as the last but different plastic.2-5kg rod,2500 reel & 6lb braid 8lb leader.i knew it was a nice jew after its first run.being in such shallow water, this fish went alot harder than his 93cm brother i last caught.it was a exciting fight, waist deep & alot of the fight trying to hold the fish away from structure.it was a rock solid text book hookup in the corner of his gob.he wasnt getting off unless my knots didnt hold or he found structure.it was hard work trying to get the hook out.lol. josh,im sorry mate, you know i feel guilty.we'v been putting in the hours chasing these stinky silver slabs & he shouldv been yours mate.your bday fish.dont worry brother,we'l get him for you tonight.so watch out jewies,we'r coming to get you.hahahaha. thanks for reading raiders, cheers johnny.
  16. some nice bream there byron.shame your back is still giving you greif, hope it gets better very soon mate, cheers johnny.
  17. hi steze,i fish the georges around lansvale quite a bit landbased.we havnt had much luck with poppers[geuss we havnt used em enough]but have consistant results using plastics fished close to the bottom.you do get snagged up a blt,but if you arent getting snagged occassionlly your not in 'THE STRIKE ZONE'.i agree with what breambucket said, its alot less painful when you loose a plastic.the plastics he mentioned have worked for us,but also the gulp 2in shrimps have been producing along with the gulp 3in swimming mullets.i got my pb jew of 93cm in the lansvale area on the 3in mullet.try using plastics around there, you should get some bream & flathead using a double or triple hop along the bottom.bream prefer a more subtle retrieve than flathead IMO.if you want some company fish these local waters, give me a pm,il be happy to show you some techniques fishing landbased.im no expert but i know that area pretty well. cheeers johnny.
  18. im not sure what rd its on but im pretty sure a fisho was washed off the rocks there last night & died.hope its not a fellow raider.can anyone else confirm if this is right or not??? cheers johnny.
  19. hi raiders, im heading to bronte or coogee beach tomorrow for a family picnic with the mrs, kids & mother in law.plan is to hav a bbq but i was hoping to wet a line in the suds.i know its probably not the best conditions & time of day but i wana ask fellow raiders if its worth a shot.im planning on soaking some pillys & some salted mullet iv caught in the past.question is,has any1 fished bronte or coogee recently,if so what did they catch,& is there any gutters or a certain spot along the beach that id hav a better chance????& do you think theres a good chance of a salmon or tailor?id love for my kids to do battle with a hard fighting sambo.i might even hav a quick spin with metals on the rocks on either side of the beach.it wont be a dedicated fishing trip, more just a line in while we relax. i know its short notice to get much feed back from but if any1 out there has any tips,it would be much appreciated.thanks in advance. cheers johnny.
  20. some nice wild river bass there grant & dan.well done.bet the gear used certainly felt alot lighter than the impoundment barra gear. cheers johnny.
