  1. thats some great advice you gave to koolcat byron, good onya mate.like always, your so forth coming with info like that.im sure if other raiders follow what you said about cowan, theyr sure to come up trumps. i cant wait til i go out with you & george to learn from the jewfish masters. good luck tomorrow with geoff & george,im sure you guys will produce the good once again. cheers johnny p.s.sorry about my phone cutting out on you,my house has the worst mobile reception.talk again soon mate.
  2. fresh white bread fished unweighted on light line & small hooks does the job for me & my mates & we'v caught some whoppers using this method.dont need to cast far[we fish landbased],just burly a bit of soaked bread around a snag or rockbar & they wont be far.we use light braid,so we cast, leave the bailarm open.when the bream piks it up,line will spill off the spool at a rate of knots.all you need to do is set the hooks by closing the bailarm.the hooks usually set by stopping the fish in its run.just make sure your drag is set correctly.we have had alot of sucess fishing this way with bread, but this method will work a treat with other baits too.we catch mixed bags with a variety of baits. bloodworms are also a deadly bait.pumped & fished in the same area as you pumped them will bring some great fish. also hardbods have done ok lately, both surface & subsurface.very visually exciting on topwater lures.small soft plastics can produce too if thats your style. there are plenty of methods of catching bream, these are just a few ways i have had some sucess.i mostly fish the georges & pt hacking,so thats where we'v used these methods. hope this helps a bit. cheers johnny.

  9. onya nathan great to read you got your first king mate, next time he"l be a legal 1,just keep at em[bet you will].i can imagine how excited you were when you were fighting it.dont they pull. cheers johnny.
  10. what i do is,check the leader & if its fine, just retie the knot with the same lenght of leader.iv heard that when the water dries on your line,it can create salt crystals on the knot & line therefore might cause the knot to be weaker. thats just what i do when im using braid[which is pretty much 99% of the time]. cheers johnny.
  11. thars a shame clem. dont worry mate, you'll get into the fish sooner than later.BTW,what bait were you using? cheers johnny
  12. thanx roberta, very helpful as always.would you be able to pm me the name if the 5pk of poppers please,i wana get some.would you know what size they are,bream/bass/whiting size? i did have a decent clear popper but i lost it to the snags a couple weeks back. cheers johnny.
  13. great effort jim fishing solo & in the crappy weather.some top fish you landed & good onya for letting the bigger 1 go. karma will reward you mate. top effort jim.cheers johnny.
  14. dont forget you can use the fresh bread to good effect on the bream.iv caught most of my bigger bream on bread.the rig is simple.the way i rig up is,from your braid mainline[if you use braid that is],tie on a leader of around 8lb,tie on at least 1mtr.to that, fish it unweighted on a small size 8-6 hook.i use mustad needle sneck size 8.[green ludrick hooks].the way i fish it is burley a little bread,on top & some to float down under the surface, cast out & leave the bail arm open.once the fish picks it up,you'l know about it,line spills off quick.give it a couple seconds then click the bail over & set the hooks.you dont really need to strike, the hook usually sets when you click the bail, setting the hooks by stopping it in its run. hope this helps 7 good luck mate. cheers johnny.
  15. gday raiders, iv been doin a bit of lure fishing with my mate josh & we'v got some bass lately but keen to get some of a better class & on surface lures. all bass iv caught have been on divers but josh has got some on surface as he has a bigger lure collection & budget than i do.i only have a couple cheap cupface poppers,1 is a 55mm white/red head kokoda popper, other 2 are troll craft,1 gold, other blue/white.theyr 60-65mm & weigh 9 or 11grms.do you guys think these are any good? the trollcrafts have a really big bloop when retreived & move & create alot of commotion.might be good for tailor, salmon & rat kings, but is it any good on bass? what i mostly wana know is,what type retreive do bass like with poppers?aggressive, constant retreive or stop/start retreive? i wana get more surface lures but my budget is pretty limited ATM.so what surface lures do you guys reccomend for under $15? also what cheaper divers are good?iv got a collection but all bass iv caught have been on the smilin jacks raw prawn.iv got 45mm pak rats in purple/black,orange/black & flouro green/black.also have halco scorpions,orange/gold & flouro green, gold laser pros,& other 50mm shallow/mid divers of different brands.are any or these any good on bass?iv also caught bream on the stated lures. so if any raiders could assist me in my quest to better class bass,it will be muchly appreciated.thanks in advance. cheers johnny.
  16. some great looking fish mate & of a decent size by the looks of them.well done.yesterday wouldv been good for a bass fish, hot & sticky & before the storm hit.shouldv rang my mate josh to go for a sesh. cheers johnny.
  17. top read paul, good onya mate.well done on the pb flatty & whopper sambo.you sure get out there alot mate.wish i could fish everyday.as im not workn atm & dont drive, its hard for me to get out as much as id like.i stil get out at least 2 times a week though so cant complain too much.lol. when i was workn & had a car,id go nearly everyday after work around iron cove & lane cove chasing jews during the night.those were the good days[only stopped doing that around feb. this yr]. cheers johnny. p.s.is there a train st nearby to those spots paul?wouldnt mind having a crack at a LB king with you.if you dont mind.
  18. thats a nice king caught off the rocks mate, great work. where abouts is browns rock,is it near bare island?is it a safe ledge & how high is the ledge from water?& is it a far walk from the car? if anyone can answer my queries,it will much apperciated. cheers johnny.

  22. yeh i know the water there isnt the cleanest, therefore i dont eat the fish we catch there, just a case of fishing for fun[to get our fishing fixl.lol]. my dad use to take me fishing there 20 odd years ago too.back then i can remember my dad & older brother catching whopper bream & blackfish.now i get the occassional decent bream but havnt got much flathead though.
  23. hi raiders, as the title says,im gna take my 6yr old son for a sesh at chipping norton for a couple hrs.its mostly to get him to have a fun time, hopefully getting onto some fish big or small,to keep him keen & not getting bored too quickly. we'l be fishing landbased as always on the lansvale side.last time i took him,he outfished daddy 6 legals to my 2 little bream.he even got a 30cm blacky that day we just used bread for bait & burley.this time he wants to use some of his hardbods & plastic that he got for his 6th bday last month, but i wana use some bait too cos thats where i think we'l get more consistant action, therefore keeping him interested & not wanting to go home after 30mins. so i wana ask fellow raiders if anyone has fished chippo recently & if they got any fish, what did you's get em on?il be either goin tomorrow or sunday morning. i know we'r not gona get any trophy fish there, but i wana keep him interested.so any help on what baits, rigs, lures & what can we expect?we'v got bream, mullet, occasional luderick & small chopper tailor in the past, but i wana know if any raiders have fish there recently,& what did you get. il be landbased so we'l be restricted to moving around too much & i dont think my boy wont be too keen to move around alot. so any help & updates on the area will be much appreciated.thanks in advance for your help guys. cheers johnny.
  24. great read jim77.well done on landing sooo many kings, theyr certainly on the chew. cheers johnny.
  25. id reccomend a penn spinfisher big game surf rod in the 15-30lb range.i use a 10 footer & its a deadly powerful rod matched to a daiwa 5500 emblem pro surf/rock casting reel.i run 30lb braid off it & its great for casting 40grm metals 100m+ with ease.the rod has enough grunt to stop the biggest of jews & sizeable kings in their tracks. iv also read in a fishing mag that 1 of the writers used the exact same outfit i use to land longtail tuna, medium cobia & gts to 15kgs landbased off a breakwall,so i highly reccomend the penn.id say your mates reels should match to the rod quite well. i use that outfit to cast metals for hours on end with hardly any fatigue,so its lightweight enough to have long sessions casting heavy metals & bibbed minnows off the rocks,or casting big live or slab baits for jew off beaches or breakwalls.im pretty sure you can pick one up for around the 150 price range. hope this helps mate. cheers johnny.
