  1. well done on getting into some fish champ. wish i could fish in my backyard.if i lived on the water,id be fishing 24/7. & dad, your not the only one to get outfished by the young bloke,my 6yr old son always outfishes me when i take him along.but who cares,as long as theyr having fun,we'r happy. cheers johnny.
  2. wow,sounds like a hectic session.well done. cheers johnny.
  3. hi mate, have a look in the department stores.i got a 500m spool of some a while back when i was using mono,in ******.it wasnt in the line class your after[i got 20lb],but they might stock some.worth having a look if your in the shopping center. cheers johnny.
  4. hi mate, yeh it is effected by tide up there but the tides run is pretty slow as its about 2-3hrs difference to the charts.[eg.if high in botany is at 1pm,high up there will be roughly 3.30-4pm].we didnt check the tides the other day but when we started it was up pretty high.when i got the bream, the tide was jus starting to turn run out & pik up a little bit of pace.enough flow to use a 1.5gm jighead & reach bottom in i geuss 10-12ft of water. cheers johnny.
  5. gday guys, after dropping the kids to school, mate josh rang to see if i wanted to go hav a flick down around fairfeild where we'v explored b4 & got some bream, mullet & carp. plan was to use bread & corn & hav some fun on the big carp.first spot is a little stream not 5m wide.burley bread & big surface boils almost immediately from mullet & carp.missed a good run & the fished spooked a bit.they were still boofing the bread but were just out of range.moved down the creek a bit & burleyed the new spot.cast the unweighted bread in then it starts raining.then i get a run, close the bail & he's on.a little bream in the low 20's.josh got 1 not long after which was just legal.i get 1 more about the same as the 1st then we move along. stopped in a few little pockets of water but no more fish landed.all fish released. we then hopped in the car & drove 3mins away to carramar.parked the car & we walked 50m to the bridge in which we fished under as it was raining.start the burley again & josh pulls a procession of little bream on unweighted bread under the bridge.i was 20m away in the rain casting toward the reeds.couple runs but no hookups.meanwhile josh lost his hook to a tiddler that he had to cut as it was hooked deep. so josh ties on a little black hard body,1st cast he's onto a little ep about 25cms.i thought,i want a ep so i changed to a squidgy bug.couple casts i land a bream that was missing the top of its jaw.looked sort of like a permits nose.i was happy with a snub nose bream. ater loosing the bug to a snag,i tied on a 2in gulp shrimp in natural colour on a 1.5gm,size 4 hook.thats when the fun started.first cast i was getting hits straight away.this went on for a bit over an hour, until we had to leave them biting to go pick up the kids from school.i ended up catching & releasing 5 or 6 bream [22-26cm] that were fat as & in great nick, pulling above their weight.awesome fun on the light rod[6lb braid & leader].in between those fish landed,i was getting hits on just about every cast. i know these are only small bream,iv caught plenty that have been almost double the size, but what made it so special to me is the location in which they were caught.having such a hot bite on lures is good enough, but to have it happen so close to home, barely 5mins drive away,is the icing on the cake for me.i could ride my bike there & be fishing in 10mins,which is just ACE.so we didnt get any of the intended carp we went for, instead we got a action pack little session of bream on plastics.BUT i didnt get my EP.lol.im not complaining though. sorry for the long post guys,i havnt put a post up in a while so i thought id giv all the details in this little session.thanks for reading. cheers johnny.

  9. thats a top result off the sand mate.2 jew of the sand in a session is excellent.sounds as though your a keen surf fisho.iv been wanting to fish for jews on the beach for a while now,but havnt in over a yr now.iv only ever landed 1 jew in the suds which is my pb jew to date.113cms,bout 12kgs at cronulla during winter at night about 3years ago.was fishing for tailor, got a few & put 1 out live.10mins later im hooked up.10-15min fight & the first sight of that slab of silver in the wash was just the best.i can picture it in my head now, seeing it in the light of my headtorch sure warmed the blood cos it was a freezing cold winters night.theyr soooo silver off the beach & theyr my favourite fish in the world.i just love my jewfish/mulloway. couple questions mate.other than squid, what other baits do you prefer to use for them off the beach?cos thats the only jew iv caught on the beach & i got it on live tailor[30-32cms],other times iv tried squid, mullet, yakkas, salmon & tailor slabs & heads but havnt caught anymore.maybe it was a fluke?but iv certainly put in the hrs. & what rig do you use & what pound line/leader do you use?braid or mono?hook size? 1 i caught was on 30lb mono & 40lb leader,2 snelled 5/0s.back then i only used mono, but now i use 20-30lb braid & 30-40lb flouro leader.any tips will be much appreciated. cheers johnny. :thumbup:P.S,what area u from?

  18. thats a awsome video & even better read stewy.well done on living the dream & locking horns with fish of a lifetime.just gold!!!you'd definately need top notch gear to land those brutes, anything less & it'll end in tears.good on the fellow raiders loaning you the gear. well done stewy & donna on a great vid & pics.sure wouldv been a awsome holiday. cheers johnny.
  19. good read buddy, well done for sticking it out & you guys were rewarded wif sum nice fish.persistance paid off for you guys that day. tip.if fishing is a little slow[or good for that matter],add sum burley to the water.in turn you'l start the food chain goin.firstly small fish, yakkas, slimies, sweep & so on.thier feeding activity in turn create commotion in the water & other fish cum in there burley to see wats goin on & feed.remember, where theres bait around, predators wont be too far behind. bait scraps like prawn shells & heads, pillie cubes, fish guts & pieces & my fav of all, mashed bread are all great burley.its also good to incorperate some of the bait your using into the burley so the fish get a taste of what your offering em.e.g.whole or half pilly bait, small chunks for burley. you probably know this & did burley that day,but i jus thought id mention it incase you didnt & if other raiders reading needed sum tips.im no expert by any means, but i like to share what i know.it jus part of beimg a member of this great family we call FISHRAIDER!!!!!! cheers johnny.
  20. some nice fish spinning there lala.was that port kembla you were fishing?& wat lures workd for you that day, metals?if so,what type, raiders, maniacs or twistys.in my experience spinning metals,iv caught most on raiders & knights, but also a few on small maniacs.i used to exclusivly use twistys, but never really had much luck wif em. just gotta love rock spinning!!!!!! cheers johnny.
  21. well done ray & jordan.some nice fish there, mustv been a action packed session.onya gents. cheers johnny.
  22. great read byron mate.well done to you & mik on gettin into some fish.shame your back was playing up & your jewfish raid had to be cut short, but at least you got plenty of prime baits to take with you on your next session next week. it never ceases to amaze me about how much of a knowledgable & experienced fisho you are mate.even though i havnt met you in person yet, everytime i speak to you on the phone,i seem to learn something new from your wise words.im sure that when i get the chance to fish with in person,il learn even more & get to put theory to practice.whats even better is il get to watch the master in action first hand for myself. . your a very nice bloke byron, you always like to help other people.you know the situation me & my family are in atm & you take that into consideration when im gona fish with.[hope you know what i mean, sure you do].i'd just like to thank you mate & cant wait to meet you in person. in the meantime, keep the great reports coming & good luck next wendsday.im sure you's will do fine.keep in touch mate. cheers johnny.
  23. well done on landing the toothy.while fishing sth west arm a couple weeks ago, mate josh hooked 2 sharks, maybe school or whaler, dont know.first hookup 1 lasted about 2-3mins,coming to the surface & taking off again b4 getting bitten off.2nd was the same but more quiker.probly around 1mtr in lenght. theres been soo much bait in the hacking of late so thats why theres alot around? another interesting thing is,last week fishing LB,we caught a emperor or sweetlip of some sort, spangled it looked to us & a esturay cod.didnt know that they were this far south.any1 else caught northern fish in the hacking?& a red gurnard too. cheers johnny.
  24. great read byron.alot of fish boated.shame the big beasty wasnt boated though. now that your back is better & your able to get out on the water again, your certainly getting out there alot harassing the fish population.making up for lost fishing time i see. cheers johnny.
  25. well done george & occy.great effort, especially for daytime. i also didnt know watts reef produced jew. 4 or 5 years ago when i got back into fishing,i used to fish watts 2-3nights a week with a local vietnamese tackle shop owner.back then i wasnt very knowledgable about fishing & thought the reef was a bait ground as the man i fish with loved to eat yakkas, slimies & tailor, which made up the majority of our bags along with trevally.he would only use pillies for bait but i also took squid as bait & would hook & loose the occassional king or salmon i think. we would only fish watts at night in summer & autum & in winter we would fish the beaches including congwong beach for bags of trevs during the night. we'd also get plagued with port jacksons when they moved into the bay to spawn when we put a bait right on the bottom,1 of which took me over 30mins to get up & well over 1.5mtrs. if only i knew back then that yakkas & slimies were gun baits i wouldv definately used them for bait.the old man would occassionally put a small live yakka out & did get 1 small jew but mostly pt jacksons & shovel noses. the slimies we did catch were horse slimmies up to & over 30cms.cos the slimies were so big,the way the old man showed me to target them was with whole ganged pilles for the slimies, tailor & odd salmon.at first we fished with floats with a glow stick on the float, but then after a season or 2 we fished the pillies unweighted & got great catches or good sized tailor.i would also fish a paternoster rig with pillie on 1 hook & squid on the other & catch all the mention species mentioned, except for the trevs which were usually rite on the bottom. its been a long time since i fished with the old man & in the bay by boat.in fact i havnt been on a boat for over a year now.cant wait till i get the chance to soon. thats a awsome result george & occy you got there,& during the day.top bag of fish boys. cant wait to meet you george & have a fish with you & byron in the near future.you & byron are definately my jewfish fisherman idols.my 6yr old son jai thinks jewgaffer is an absolute legend jewfisherman.everytime im on fishraider & he see's your name,he tells me to read what you'v wrote. good onya gentleman once again & il speak to you soon byron. cheers johnny.
