  2. hi raiders, got a call from mate josh to hav a flick at our local waterway.after fishing all day yesterday with nathan[beginner],wasnt sure if was gona give leave, lucky for me she didnt mind.anyway headed to our local spot & flicked plastics.pretty slow goin with 2 little flattys & 2-3 small bream landed.kept on the move alot to try find the fish but no good.went to the spot where i got my 93cm jew last week but still dead.the tide was pretty high so we didnt get to fish that spot as much as we liked to as its a low tide spot. moved again this time on the other side of the waterway on the lansvale side.only choppers stealing tails so we worked our way high upstream where we'v had some good sessions in the past.this section of water is tight country with the creek barely 10-20m wide in most sections.we found actively feeding bream all along this section with lots of small bream landed on 75mm flickbaits,50mm wrigglers & 2in curltail grubs.we worked further upstream & at that time the tide had bottomed out & was very shallow.in this spot we again found active bream in the shallow rocky pockets.we could see them flashing on their sides it was so shallow.there i was getting hits every cast for about 30mins landing only a couple just under bream.i landed a small ep too & dropped another 2 at my feet.we were casting to structure in barely 1-2ft of water when josh hooked up to a solid fish on a 2in grub on 1pound braid & 5lb leader.this fish went hard in the rocky shallow water & even jumped a couple times.i soon lip gripped a healthy flathead in the mid 50cm range.josh also went on to land another 2 nice legal size bream before we left. on a bad note, josh broke his rod tip on a tree branch in the tight country.that was before we found the active fish & josh quoted he'd now get some better fish now that he broke the tip off & indeed he did landing the biggest bream & flathead of the session.onya joshy. all in all a slow start but ended up being an ok day.beats doin the lawns. thanks for reading guys & gals. cheers johnny.

  9. hi raiders, fished friday night with beginner[nathan] at one of his spots in the harbour.conditions were good, rising tide, couple days after new moon & not a breathe of wind.nath brang some fresh squid & big prawns for bait.plan was to hopefully land a jew.nath started off with a big squid strip on his big rod while i had a little flick with plastics.no good.i riggged up my jew rod & put a squid head out that got picked to peices by tiddlers.in the meantime i was trying to catch live bait for us to use.got a couple yakkas.nath put 1 out on his big rod but went untouched.i put 1 out too but same, nothing.i then decided to slab them up.they got more intrest but only by pickers.while waiting for big baits to go off,i continued fishing for bait & got countless little red & 2 just under bream.i hooked up to a solid 30cm+ bream but when we were lifting it up the couple meters,it swung, hit the wall & snapped the 6lb leader.oh well,s*** happens.other than little fish it was pretty quiet.other people there didnt seem to be having any better luck than we were. i showed nath how to butterfly a whole bait when the livies died & a technique i use alot.all in all a quiet night but a good night none the less with great company & a perfectly beautiful autunms night. id like to thank nathan for inviting me out with him[its the 1st time we'v fished together, but have been in contact for a couple wks].your a very nice bloke & i can see you & nyself fishing together quite alot in the future.cheers mate. we are planing to target jew off the beach later in the week using fresh yakkas, slimys, mullet & squid.we'r gona catch what bait we can & take it to a beach to try convert them into something big, silver & smelly.cant wait. is there any raiders out there that can reccomend a decent beach to target jew off with a chance of brean, tailor & salmon by catch???any help would be much appreciated.feel free to pm me.thanx for reading raiders. cheers johnny. p.s.sorry no pics, nothing to take photos of.haha.
  10. thanxs for putting the pic up.not the best looking pic quality wise, from my camera phone.thanx again robeebee. cheers johnny.
  11. i got the trion tournament bream specialist.7.2ft,2-5kg.i really like it,good for casting light/medium weighted plastics, hardbodys & small metals.[i use up to 10gm metals on it].very light & sensitive & i cant fault it.especially now that i landed a 7kg jew on it on wendsday. .I LOVE IT!!!!
  12. thanx guys, the pic on my avatar is the fish.i dont know how it got there,i tried before but it didnt work.well at least its up there for you to see & hopefully some other pics will be put up. anth, thanx mate,it'l be great if youcan put the pics up. dgf, it was caught in the lansvale area.id heard of some being caught there in the past but by boat fishing livebaits in the deeper holes.i was not expecting a jew,i know we might of had a chance of one at that time of tide but was not expecting it,was expecting flathead so when we got her we were pumped.just goes to show if you got a line in the water your in with a chance. btw byron,it was definately more than the 3-5lb you thought it was.maybe it was a bad pic i sent you.from mobile camera. cheers johnny.
  13. hi raiders, i fished the georges yesterday arvo[17-03-10] with mate josh.after a slow start & 1 bream landed after 2hrs of casting we moved to a spot where we landed a few duskys & bream a couple days prior.3rd cast & im hooked up solid to a good fish.it hit my plastic no more than 3m from my feet.i called it for a big croc.the first run was long & powerful on my light flick stick.it was a good 5-8min fight, gaining line then loosing it a few times.it wasnt until mid fight when it surfaced mid chanel when we got our first glimpes of it.big & silver. not long after that i had it on the sand after some good coaching on rod angles from josh.wow what an awesome fish.we didnt have a tape measure with us & it wasnt until we got home it was measured & went 93cms & we estimate it to be 12-16lb.very solid fish with thick shoulderswe took some pics on my mobile & josh's camera.when it comes to adding pics,im very s*** when it comes to this type of stuff.i sent some pics to a couple raiders on my mobile so hopefully one of you guys can attach it for me.it would be much appreciated if i could get the pics up.i'l keep trying in the meantime but im not liking my chances. the jew was landed just before 6pm & at that time, the tide was just bottoming out & starting to run back in for the section of river we were fishing.we fished for another 45mins or so after landing my pb jew but i didnt land anymore fish.josh on the other hand proceeded to land a hanful of flathead & few bream all on plastics also.they were all released.we kept the jew.i dont think a couple of meals of jew fillets from that section of river will kill me.lol gear i used was my 7.2ft pfluger trion 3-5kg rod,2500 shimano reel spooled with 6lb braid & 6lb leader.plastic was a gulp curltail grub in 3in size.jighead was 2.5gm & size 2 hook.lucky for me it was a perfect hookup,in the corner of its gob.there was some nervous moments at first as i thought i had a big flatty & was hoping not to get rubbed off from the teeth.lucky for me it wasnt a flatty but a beautiful jew & everything held solid. i really hope to get the pics up so others can see them.thanx for reading & i hope you enjoyed it.i surely enjoyed the fight & feel very happy to have landed such a great fish on light gear & on a lure too.its something i wont forget for a loooong time. cheers johnny. p.s. if raiders can receive pics on your mobiles,pm me your number & il send some pics.
  14. onya nath.sorry i couldnt make it friday night.when you sms'd me,we were just leaving chippo after a couple hrs of plastic tossing.if i didnt already hav plans to take the kids to kareoke[usually go every friday night at local club],i wouldv come with you.i didnt get to fish on the weekend, ended up getting food poisoning so was stuck at home.now im hangin for a fish.haha.

  17. hi guys, is birkenhead point near the drummoyne sailing club???the place near the bridge that is having some construction stuff done under it?& on the oppisite side is the balmain art college?if thats the place,i fish there[going into the art college entrance off balmain rd].always get flattys, bream & chopper tailor there.have tried for jew there but no luck.last time i was there,2wks ago,i met a local that was fishing there also.i asked him has he got jew there & he showed me pic on his mobile of 8 school jew to 8kgs he caught there since january.not 2mins later he lands a 6kg model on fresh tailor slab.i had fresh caught squid out & was a bit jealous to be honest.it was the middle of the day with a 1.30pm low,the fish was caught around 2pm. at least i now know first hand jew are there so im gona try my luck this week[weather permitting] with fresh slimys i caught along with a couple other fresh baits i catch. also, can someone tell me what waterway this area is please.i tell my mates it lane cove river,im i correct???any confirmation would be much appreciated. cheers johnny.
  18. greg. i had a rod stick together & i took it to a local tackle shop.the guy used graphite powder & we got it apart.since then iv used grapite powder & havnt had any probs since. cheers johnny. p.s. do you sometimes work at the fairfeild bing lee store?
  19. the 10ft penn spinfisher big game surf rod is a good beach/rock rod.iv used one alot of times matched to a daiwa emblem pro 6500[big surf casting reel] & it fit the bill nicely.its not overly heavy.the rod itself is graphite/compisite & rated to 10-15kgs.i cast heavier metals on it for hrs on end without fatigue.it also casts unweighted pillies for pelagics well along with un or lightly weighted cunjee baits for drummer & groper.priced at under $150 its great value for money & you get a tough workhorse of a rod that will withstand the rock/beach environment.i know a few lbg fishos that use that exact outfit to land longtail tuna.gt's & a host of other big beasties of the rocks.good surf jew rod too.im pretty sure theres a 11ft model too,in either spin or overhead.check em out. hope this helps. cheers johnny.
  20. we heard about the fin being caught in there so josh brang a 50lb spin outfit incase we did hook up to something big,we might have stood a chance.we did run live slimys & yakkas but no hookups.i had a large yakka out & it got taken.couple second run then dropped it.when i checked it,almost half of it was gone, bitten in half in 1 chomp & missed the hook pinned just behind the 1st dorsal fin on the yakka.spewing i didnt rig it on a 2 hook rig.oh well,we'l be ready nxt time.would love a hoo, spanish or a cobe.we have got spangled emperor & estuary cod,so you never know, like you said byron,if those warm currents push up the river & theres enough bait around, anythings possible.mayb a beakie.lol cheers johnny.
  21. awesome catch ray, woulv been great fun on the light gear.some fine fish landed.how high is the ledge there at avoca?how do you land your fish if using light lines & leaders with lures, long handled net? great read & pics as always ray. cheers johnny.
  22. thats just awesome mate.i wouldnt even know where to start when it comes to making lures.lol.you must be really satisfied knowing it produced the goods. have you made any larger sizes for the likes of jew, reds & kings?well done mate,il be keeping a eye out for your future lure posts/updates.hope to see some impressive fish caught on your blades. cheers johnny.
  23. me & mate josh fishd the arm lb sunday,no fin but plenty mack tuna around, josh got 1 & pulled the hooks on one,on small metals.cut the mack up to use for bait & 1st cast josh is onto something solid.awesome fight to watch on his tcurve but rubbed him off on the front ledge where it drops off into the chanel after a few mins.i called it for a solid king[70cm+].who knows, couldv been a fin???? what you rekon josh???? cheers johnny.
  24. i just use fresh white bread & it works a treat, got some great fish on it.to make it float without lead, what i do is just mould the bread around the top of the hook shank & leave it fluffy & unmoulded near the point of the hook.it might take a couple goes to get the right density to make it float but once you do,its easy.after a couple casts though,it will start to sink slowly as the bread gets wet it gets heavier & sinks.bream seem to love a unweighted bread bait sinking slowly to the bottom.its one of the main baits i use in the esturays, pretty much everything eats it. hope it helps. cheers johnny.
