  1. I have had the 90hp yammie 2S and a 75 etec, both where great engines! never let me down. sold the hornet with the etec a few yrs back with 380hrs and the 90 yammie was on a similar sized savage which was sold with 920 hrs. I would go with yammie just because it has more go 90 vs 75. I believe that there isnt much price difference between a new midrange out board and 2nd hand reco one due to their high demand.
  2. I have them mounted though my hard top on the whaler, they are actually mounted to the alloy frame not the GRP hard top, they pass though the hard top and onto the frame work and they arent flimsy at all. sorry dont have any other pictures on my comp, but it might help you.

    Polar Boats?

Polar boats aren't to bad for the price of them but they are built to a pretty tight budget, they are not to the same quality as a top line US boat. Cheaper fittings, pumps, poorer quailty S/S etc, but aslong as you are aware of it they pretty good bang for you buck. A 2004 model I would have a survey done on it before I sent the cash over as it might save you alot of headaches. How much are they asking for it? and how many hrs on the engine?
  4. You just have to change the settings in them, they have 3 setting US, Canada, International. Australia run's on the internation one. If you dont change it will still work on some channels but not all of them as they are slightly different frequencies.
  5. sorry mate, about 250 for an Icom M72, I bought 4 a while back for on board comms with my crew members with extra mic's and charges and it went to about $500 per radio.
  6. So the question is, will a hand held VHF give you better recption than a mobile phone? answer... not even close. I think you would need a high quailty hand held VHF like an Icom and it isnt really worth it. They are around they $500 mark i think.
  7. Do you really need a radio for what you going to use for tinny for????? I would be pretty sure that your mobile phone will have coverage at 99% of all inshore reefs. Just put the local water police/maritime/goast gaurd number in your phone and save yourself a few hundred and by a new rod or reel.....
  8. How the hell could stabi win???? as I said before I will never set foot in one again, they are the worst riding vessel I have ever been in! Can’t comment on the barcrusher. I find the reviews are a load of BS. I work in the marine industry and from my own experience on vessels of all types and size 20-130ft pleasure/fishing boats what happens in the real world to what gets published in their boating magazines are often too completely different things. I find that these "reviews" are an exercise to keep the builders/suppliers onside more then an accurate review for the general boating public. The best review is too take a test ride in these big tinnes yourself on the same day in sub standard weather conditions, then go in a GRP boat and see the difference. They just don't compare! People often say that you'll burn more fuel in a GRP boat because they are heavier but actual difference is minimal

    BIG TILLER OUTBOARDS

there is a boat getting around pittwater with a merc 300 with a tiller steer.
  10. A good mate of mine had a 620 stabi with twin 90 honda's on it and it was by far the worst riding boat I have ever been in!! it was wet as hell and rough as guts and the weather was ok too. That was the first and last time I accepted an invitation to go fishing with him. I have my 255 Boston Whaler for sale and I have run out to browns and Heaton’s quite a few times with no worries, if you interested just pm and I will forward you all the details.
  11. Sika Flex is much better than silicone, just make sure you clean the surface around the area that you are using it on.
  12. Yes you definitely need a VHF licence
  13. I havent been in a 235, I got the 255 and had it in some absolutly shit house 40kts+ and 5m+ seas and swell conditions and its been unreal, had waves break in the cockpit and its drains as quick as it came in.
  14. No, not at all, if the weather is ok, freak wave only ever happen when people arent looking at what going on around them, and sharks dont like eating alloy.
  15. Cant give you much on the evo 650, but have been fishing in a 680 patriot and it was a good boat but still not as good as the Boston Whaler Conquest
  16. Its good that you carry a Sat Phone as not many vessels would and out of everything that is one of the best things you could carry. Depends on hell of a lot of things how far you mobiles will work out at sea. I have had reception well past browns before not all the time but quite a few. I have had mobile reception at exceptional distances of up to 70 nautial miles (130km) off the coast on quite a fair few occasions whilst at work and it happens more than you would think. Just because you do not have recption doesn't mean your mobile wont work, if you call 112 your phone will log onto any mobile tower that it can, not just your carriers network. At the end of the day a mobile phone is an invalable device to have if needed like all other safety equipment. I just think the thousands spend on a new outboard and mounting bracket could be better spent else where, plus you need to find more room to store the extra fuel tank/s for it to get you back home. At the end of the day we pay taxes so the government can provide us with rescue services so if needed people shouldn't be afraid of using them.
  17. Yes a sea anchor will keep the bow into the waves/wind. Provided its is the correct size and is deployed correctly.
  18. I can see why people want auxiliary motors or twin screw vessels, but it is very expensive insurance considering that you have VHF, Flares, EPRIBS, mobile phones, V sheets, anchors, sea anchors and other vessels that are always out. Just one thing to take into account when toadys outboards and much more reliable than they ever have been. It maybe an option to sell the tinny and outboard and the yammie and repowering? just some food for thought mate.
  19. You can get shock absorbing seat but they cost a fortune anything from a 1k to upwards of 25k, you may find cheaper ones out there but rust is a big problem and the way some of the cheaper ones operate, if you where to go over a large wave and grab the bottom of your seat you would chop your fingers off when you came back down by the shock absorbing mechanism so just keep that in mind.
  20. Any boat electronic dealers, whitworths etc. It could be a NMEA 0183, 2000, Ver 2.0, Ver 3.0 or Ver 3.1 so just check your manual before purchasing if you need one.
  21. Why don't you just move the VHF and put a spacer behind the faceplate mounting to gain the clearence behind the unit. DSC is the only way to go, especially if its connected to a GPS and you should apply for a MMSI number from AMSA to gain to full benefit of the DSC.
