  1. Strewy and Overdraft and anyone else,

What features on the HDS do you use that aren't available on the elite.

The side scan and insight sound good although catalogue talk and reality don't always line up.

I'm now looking at an elite chirp 5 or maybe 7. Not sure how many extra fish I will catch for double the money.

It's going in a tinny for kings, breaming in the poles and moorings and other estuary work.

  2. g'day everyone

Having had my fishfinder recently cark it in suddenly in the market for some new electronics.

I want a ff/chart combo unit and considering the value of sonar and side scanning. Are these features people feel they could not live without once they get used to them or of slightly less value?

Currently looking at a raymarine dragonfly 6.

Interested to hear the views of others on this topic

    Cheers

  3. G'day team,

This morning with the forecast for calm conditions I braved the rain and hit the harbour to see what I could find.

I spoke to a charter bloke at the ramp and he said he was getting as many kings inside as outside, hmm.

The southerly was a bit stiffer than predicted and with the rainthe conditions did suck. After failing on squid I headed to middle harbour to soak some frozen squid for a jewie on the tide change. No joy.

A while later got a bite on frozen squid for a rat that would have gone close and a boat side release. then came a solid tailor that was rigged and sent back out. Next up was a just legal king on a weightless cube followed by another that went undersize. There was a Trev and a couple of pinkies in there too.

And that was about it, but there are fish in the brown water. All fish except the first took pieces of a frozen old Mack fished light, fresh Trev didn't seem to cut it today.

  4. Hi, welcome to lure making, it looks good, are you glueing or tying on your skirts?

I recommend tying them on cos next week you will have a better lure and the last one won't get a run. Same the following week.

How big is that one? And what's coming next

    Cheers

    Steve

  5. I remember those, people used to show you the paper to back up their stories. It got a bit tricky when the paper was on its second or third use.

Finding reefs was still go 5 miles at 80 degrees from the headland or put the water tank over the red roof like you said. Many great spots were lost when some inconsiderate bastard cut down their pine tree or painted their garage door.

  6. Today I picked up a Loomis gl2 8500 and stradic c4 2500 combo from cash converters. As time goes on it may get a smaller reel.

Without using it yet, it seems a bit "tip heavy" . I haven't used counterweights in the past, if you have experience on the subject could you add list your views.

    Cheers

    Steve

  7. What is the life expectancy for one of these? Mine is now 6 years old and looks worse although surface and superficial rust only hopefully.

I have noticed the electronics like regular use, I found they would not go when I first put it in, I keep mine "down" now and give it a go every few days when I walk past.
