  1. I would hate to see more laws about what you can't do and must wear in our free country.

I think with our license money we could get a bit more communication from fisheries. Updates on safety info, reports from various accidents and how they could have been prevented. Fisheries seizures arrests and penalties.

How about fitting a small cross where each person dies rock fishing?

  2. Thanks for all the input, I am now pretty confident I have bad batch of fuel.

The same fuel is causing me drama in my 4 stroke brush cutter and my mower seems a bit wobbly as well.

Now, what to do with 40 litres bad fuel?

  3. We had the synoptic chart flash up on the news for about 3 seconds, and used that to predict the wind swell size direction and duration. Whether the swell would be jumping over each other or dying.

This allowed you to choose your location. Then it was up to you to interpret the reality and how it was unfolding.

Nothing terrifies me more than someone saying " it's going to be 1m and light winds " with no clue as to why or what will happen if the forecast fails.

  4. i find yamashita and yo zuri the best, i have some harimitsus and gancrafts but i gotta say i dont love them.

the backing is at least equally important as the cloth colour. depending on the light level i use glow, gold red or clear base colours.

i tend to favour natural colours in size 1.8 -2.5

  5. yep, its worth it and you can do it.

get on ebay and boatsales and see whats out there. promise yourself you wont buy anything for at least a little while. remenber theres that many tinnies out there people are trying to sell so its always a buyers market in the cheap boating area.

tinnies are cheap to own, you have

    trailer rego

    boat rego

    boat licence

insurance, less than $20 a week, it is a boat so it will cost you $$$ at some point.

a 12 footer will do all the things you have asked, a 14 footer will open up the harbour proper, broken bay and out the front a little bit when you are ready

    and you wont fall out.

  6. It's done 50 hours since the last service,

Don't think the fuel pump has ever been overhauled.

The fuel filter is not clear so I'm unable to tell what's in it.

When I ran it after the breakdown I had the boat planing and everything seemed OK before it went bad again

I've run it at home and seemed OK

    Obviously not though.

  7. What are the steps you take in knowing what the weather will do on your next fishing trip?

Me, I'm a BOM man, I keep in contact with the 4 day synoptic chart most of the time, all year round, leading up to a trip I look at the forecast wind page to give me hour by hour (more or less) prediction for where I'm going.

This is a winner because say, the coast, harbour and middle harbour can get the wind differently.

And often a look at "latest coastal observations" to see what's happening as I'm leaving bright and early.

Plus keep my eyes open each day, yesterday I saw a plane leaving long contrails, upper atmospheric instability!

    What do you look at?

  8. i have a tinny, fuel tank permanently fitted @40l, i rarely use more than 20 in a day.

last week i did a couple of engine hours, i put about 5l in earlier in the week, and 10 more last night, it appeared full with fuel coming up the clear filler hose.

today i did a couple of hours running around downrigging idling etc, i would have estimated 15 litres used 20 max. just near the spit on the way in, she starts running poorly the conks out.. fuel primer bulb is soft. So , i unstrapped the tank, jammed a surfer joe under the other end to get all the fuel to the pick up end, and just make it back to to ramp. again the motor is struggling.

So, on the way home into the servo and guess what only 10 litres goes in???

    whats gone wrong???

happy to hear ideas theories or anyones experience.

    mother of all airlocks?

    blockage in a fuel line?

ps, middle harbour is chocolate, the harbour is dirtier than a week ago. squid are fussy, and scored a 70cm king on a dead squid head while the live yakkas went untouched.

  9. I have a lowrance elite 5 chirp, first purchased a couple of months ago.

1st trip it shut down 4 or 5 times, sometimes when the boat slapped on chop, sometimes when the boat was at rest in calm water. Second and third trip it stopped reading the bottom.

Then the head unit was replaced without any drama.

    First trip no fault

Second trip, did the reading .4m thing, doesn't respond to restart. Did a bit of no fishfinder while the sonar still worked.

In discussions with the manufacturer to see what happens next.

    Piece of shit

  10. Today's plan was get yakkas get a couple of squid for a feed and a couple for bait, then go get a King. Easy!

So, first stop spit bridge to see what's going on, hmm no squid but plenty of yakkas. 4 in the tank and off to squid spot 1, it was starting to get light by now, squid spot 1 failed and seemed a bit murky so off to squid spot 2, same deal so into the harbour proper and into some cooler and hopefully cleaner water. I've never actually fished Squid spot 3 and it failed, ok squid spot 4, again never fished but got a squid, dropped a squid then got a second. At the same time landed a mid 40s lizard on a lazy rig out the back. Sweet looking good, pressure is off.

So time to start fishing. Headed past wash away beach and into the corner near the huts, still looking for another squid, with a live yakka out, after a while the yakka has a bit of a moment and starts acting a bit used up. Switched him out for a squid, sorry kids, a couple of minutes later zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz we're on.

    76cm on board.

Back to squid spot 1 and it's a bit cleaner with the tide. 2 more squid and mission accomplished.

I'll get a pic up later, not working for me at the mo
