  1. You're last sentence %%%%%ed my ears!

Well err yes but no. If you're after BIG fish regardless of the species you will start to rule out the small and maybe medium sized ones. Be it by location, season or what's on your hook.

You probably should adjust your goals as well, what is success?

The fish you are now targeting are not readily available, if they were they would be average fish right!

Measure your success at the end of the season rather than each trip individually, it will take a while to crack the code on the big fish you target and you will get a lot more zeroes along the way.

But hey, when you've got that 20keg jewie on the deck and people are saying how lucky you are all the walks of shame are forgotten.

Edit first line was pr ick ed, but got auto corrected???

  2. If you're buying a 2-4 rod put 6# or less on it, then if you're fishing 6# or less you only need a 1000 reel.

My second rod/mates rod is a 2-4 pflueger Trion + symetre 1000 with 3 pound. Spooled up with some leader will go for about $300. It will get Kings in the open with some patience and any lizard.

Once you're in the structure it's a different game, but you are then you are taking a knife to a gunfight but you know that, and you have other outfits already.

If you're gunna go light do it properly, if you use 8# + 10-16 leader there's no point in buying a 2-4 in the first place.

    Edit- typo

  3. There was a lot of trawlers working the area, I counted 9 at one time so there must be a lot of fish or squid being caught to pay the fuel bill. Does anyone know what was being

They trawl (Edit the exact same area) 5 days a week about 50 weeks a year, not sure what they catch either. I've been told squid, I've been told they don't take any fish, I've been told not prawns. Upstream cops it as well.

I don't see any new gear so there can't be much money in it

  4. i don't fear flying, I fear getting to the airport!

So much money and emotion invested all comes down to getting there on time. Once there I can relax.

As for dealing with fear, I try to rationalise it by asking "how many people have died doing this this week"

  5. seldom in river do I have a fish take that much line off my reel. I am very aware of all the video has to say And I used that information when chasing fish which stripped a lot of line off a reel very quickly. But is a salmon or trevally going to do that on the gear he is using?

Whether it's a metre or a kilometre it's still the same pressure, if you rarely lose line try fishing lighter,

  6. This country was built on convict heritage and the eureka stockade, our forefathers would have your balls if they thought you wouldn't take home a cuttlefish from the shoreline for fear of some alleged council by law.

Oh and it's ok to take them if it's alive but not ok if they're dead??? You're birds will love you.

    Rant over.

  7. I have the AU falcon ute... so no limo Diff

Not sure of the model exact model, I think it was either optioned or aftermarket. Not 100% sure on the issue though. I only ever drove it from the boat preparation area to the ramp and vice versa.

  8. My mate towed a 20 footer Bertram with a ute similar to yours, i think it had a limo diff. I retrieved with it many times. Like others have said- low tide got interesting but no real dramas.

Never been to your ramp though.

  9. I don't like the connection to be on the spool if I'm casting. So the leader starts about a rod + 1 foot or so.

As the leader gets scuffed or I retie jigs Itshortens down.

Once the leader gets below about 5 foot for bream or 4 foot for lizards I'm starting to lose confidence. So if the bites stop I tie a new leader or run it down a bit further if the bites keep coming.

    Kings are much the same.

    No swivels in my rig.

  10. I read Bluewater and like it because of the depth of the articles,

I had a gift subscription to fishing world, oh the agony. The answer to everything is to buy more product.

When my father bought his boat we bought trailerboat fishermen for many years but that was a long time ago.

  11. Plus what do you want to cast?

I have a couple of pfluegers, 7 foot 1-3 kg that cast .5 gram to 7g or ( gently) 9gram jig heads for lizards bream +whiting poppers.

    I use 2 and 3 pound line.

You lose a couple of bream in the badlands and rats near structure will win more often than you, but hey, gotta hook up to lose em

I've had lower quality 6'6 and 6' rods that just felt like they didn't get enough speed through the tip when casting.
