  1. Well, I am lucky enough to be travelling to northern queensland to an island just of mission beach. I have the place and a boat to myself for a week. Now, for the topic title. I am taking with me a shimano tyrnos overhead and tcurve deep jig 200, 50lb braid. Also a daiwa saltist 4500 on the same stick and line a Stella 4000 fe on a loomis 12-22lb stick with 30lb braid. Tackle is plenty of 5 inch and 7 inch shads, some metal slugs, lots of 7/0 hooks down to 1/0, spare trebled, some rapala magnums, plenty of leader, 40lb wire traces and some other small items such as sinkers etc. I will target queens, trevally , reef fish, tuna and about anything else that bites. If any one has any exp at this as mine is only limited to a few charters up north the help would be much appreciated on what to take that I have missed as I want it to be a crackerof a trip. Any extra ideas on tackle etc to take please reply. Thanks Andrew.
  2. The ceramic bearings cost 30bucks each.
  3. Gotta love Greystanes. Tailor, flathead Are caught off the beach. And at night there are some decent Jews lurking around if you got lives your a shot to get one.
  4. going to fitzroy island now. Anyone been there before? thanks Andrew.
  5. Thanks for all the help with the replies. Much appreciated. Thanks Andrew.
  6. What do you guys consider to big of a swell to go and have a beach bash? 1m 1.5 and so on. Thoughts????? Thanks Andrew.
  7. Got the tyrnos 12 and love it. Perfect for livebaiting kings. Line capacity no good for tuna on this size. The 30 would be perfect for tuna but maybe a bit big for kings. Would certainly do the job though. Top reel with smooth lever drag an a strong body. Cheers Andrew.
  8. We have been there once before. She enjoys 4WD ing. Plus we missed a bit last time we were up there due to time.
  9. Thanks guys. I am working on seisia. Fingers crossed.
  10. Basically, got a free pass to go with the wife to go anywhere in oz to fish if it's tropical and has a lagoon for her to swim in for a week. Somewhere comfy for her and maybe to come out with me for a day here and there. We had somewhere booked but cyclone yasi stuffed that. Any ideas?
  11. From those old school 30x30 tiles on the floor the fish I reckon is just over 1.5m long. Def near 80. Nice one.
  12. I bought the catana for a bash around stick and it flicks great. It's a 2-4 kg so maybe a bit too stiff for those small HB But it does ok. Caught a few rat kings with it to. Good rod for about $60.
  13. For larger kings the 6-10 kg is the mid setup. Fine for rats up to 80cmany thing bigger hang on. Any good 4000 size reel on a snaper stick will be ok. 4-6 kg t curve and a 4000 stradic with 30lb braid should be about $450. In between but I think this combo will delete the ryobi one as it's is more versatile.

  16. I got a daiwa exceler baitcaster and rod with 20lb line for $300. Not a bad combo and has taken a few kings 70 to 75cm. Casts great with practice.
  17. I had a day once in Darwin fishing the wrecks to catch a donut all day. Your lucky at least you caught a few.
  18. Gonna plot around double bay, rose bay etc and see whats on the sounder. Hoping to drop some big baits and flick some plastics for a jew, but anything will do

  23. Went with a g loomis 10-17lb 7 foot 6 inch. Very light with a fast tip and matched perfect. Also 30lb jap braid. Fit 300 metres easy. Thanks for all the help guys.
  24. Went and looked at the rods and David88 is right. 6-12kg felt too heavy and was a bit stiff. I will look at a 5-8kg I think. Thanks Andrew.
