  1. Went and looked at the rods and David88 is right. 6-12kg felt too heavy and was a bit stiff. I will look at a 5-8kg I think. Thanks Andrew.
  2. The rod has a line rating of 6-12kg. 30lb is just over 13kg. The reels max drag is 11kg. I just want it to be a bit more flexible for some larger fish and with that setup and not waste type reels potential. i should be able to run 6kg drag no problems. I travel north a bit so it would be handy to have a little more grunt. I have a few setups already for 3-6kg, 5-8kg and 2-4kg and 24kg jig sticks. this one fills a hole in between. Thanks Andrew.
  3. Think I have narrowed it down to daiwa accu depth hyper 30lb braid (not cheap) and the tournament series tcurve 6-12kg. Got 2 other tcurves. A jig stick and a bream rod and they have been great. Will find out Friday if the combo is a good one but I guess the reel will make any combo good. Cheers Andrew.
  4. Syd harbor. Prob 20 to 30lb braid.
  5. Got a present from the wife tonight for my birthday. A stella 4000 FE! got a big problem now. Need a rod to match this beauty. Any ideas? Thanks Andrew.

    GPS maps

THANKS FOR THE INFO GUYS. I AM TAKING OUT THE BOAT THIS WEEKEND AND WILL HAVE A LOOK AROUND WITH THE GPS/SOUNDER. I SUPPOSE I WILL USE IT A FEW TIMES AND DECIDE IF I NEED TO SPEND THE CASH ON THE UPGRADEDE MAPS FROM NAVIONICS OR SUCH. THANKS AGAIN. ANDREW.
  7. Don't know the best times but I am assuming it's early April on the mullet run aroun the vines. If u need a passenger to split costs on the charter let me know
  8. Went past on Thursday gone. Been crippled with chicken pox then influenza. All was dead. Plenty of muddish bottom and no holes or real dropoffs except for the edge of the channels. The channel had a quick drop off which looked promising of the edge of that wharf 30m out. Hope that helps. And that was at high tide. The distance from shore changes there slot between tides.
  9. Send me a pm. I can get marine ply at a cost less than anyone. I buy heaps of board/ply in my business. If your local to my workshop I have all the means and machinery and glue for carpet also. Maybe a case of beer for a hand? Cheers Andrew.

    GPS maps

Hi, just bought my first gps unit for marine. Just want to know if it's worth the map upgrade or to buy a gps book and put in the marks manually. It's a hummingbird and I only fish around Sydney. Any tips on this would be appreciated. Thanks Andrew.
  11. I say that the admin run this site great and if they choose to not sell boats etc on the site then live with it. There are Many other places to sell your boat which advertise that fact and have 100,00 plus readers. Leave it be and worry about real life problems and enjoy the site for what it is, a good read for free! Keep up the good job admin.
  12. Best jewie I've seen on this site in the last 2 years since I joined. I would swap that fish for 100 catch of the month prizes so don't be disappointed as we are jealous of your capture. Well done and will be out at my spot near rose bay this weekend and I am sure you will be too. Cheers.
  13. Cut off that tip its no good. Take it to your local tackle shop and buy a tip that fits tight. They have varying diameters. Buy a hotmelt stick and glue it on that simple.
  14. I am going past next weekend. Will have a sound around then post. Cheers andrew
  15. Saw one caught off the red marker just west of the harbor bridge this afternoon. Looked about 750mm. From now to July they thin out but if anything happens like last year some big ones hang around till then. Caught one every trip till July last year but not in numbers. Keep at it. Early sunrise fishing worked in the harbor and I hope it does this year too.
  16. worth it. Live once. Do it. No fishing will ever be the same. Trust me. Coral reef near Australia. Our country and surrounds is the bomb.
  17. Got to be happy with that. Won't be long and you will be struggling to keep up with your son on the catches! That's what it's all about. Good times to remember for the future. Well done.
  18. increase in fish is for a reason. No commercial fishing and better water quality (still plastic bags etc getting washed in)
  19. Caught Jews and kings. If they are in the environment they are definatly on the plate. Fresh is best.
  20. Heading to nth Queensland.
  21. Maybe a saragosa 14000f is a better option?

  23. Nice fish mate. I was amazed as I was travelling down the river at 3.30 am and saw about 20 boats looking for the jews. They must be around so stick at it.
  24. Hit the harbour at 5 am at our spot got the burley trail going and as the sun came up we were on. Hooked a good one which put a good bend in the tcurve and was taking 6 kg drag. Got it to the boat and it was about 80 cm. Leader was too long from the swivel and it was hard to control and it brushed the prop and then ping, gone lesson learned My mate was on next with fresh squid and line was being pulled and he tightened his drag too much and his knot in his 40lb leader broke. 5 mins later got a 60cm model which pulled nothing like the other two. 1.5 hrs later nothing came except 50 other boats so we decided to move to a quieter spot as the traffic was putting them off. Put a few yakkas out and about half an hour later at the new spot with the burley going my 8lb bream rod goes off and after about 5 mins a 60cm model comes up. It was nearly 11am and we said 15 more mins for home time. I caught a bream while waiting and as it surfaced the rod buckles at the back. In a panic I put the small rod in the holder and tell my mate to get the bream. As the fish turned I looked and my rod was in the water with the bream on it(obviously not in the holder). My mate grabbed it, untangled it from the other line and after a few minutes I brought up a fat 80 cm model weighing 4 kg. About 12 we quit with a keeper and after catching heaps of just legal bream and undersize snapper that all went back as we were stuffed. Dropped mate off at manly. Took boat home back out west, cleaned it, cleaned esky with ice slurry and the fish, took the submerged reel apart and washed it then had some king steaks for lunch and it was 5pm. What a long day. Fell asleep at 6 and got up an hour ago! 12 hour round trip and was wrecked but would do it all over again. Cheers thanks for reading. Andrew.
