  1. organizing my next fishing session

  2. Seisia in cape york. There is a campsite there for $25 a night and people catch barra, gts, etc off the bloody jetty because theres too many fish. They catch there livies which live under the jetty and just chuck it out and they are into the fish.I know when I get the chance I am back there as I now have the gear to fish there. Also the scenery is second to none and there is plenty to see and do. There are also guides out there. There is one in Punsand Bay called bat and he gets big fish. Fly to Cairns and hire a 4WD and drive there. It is worth it. Cheers Andrew.
  3. Picked up my mate and went to his uncles house @ 5.30am for a fish. Launched the boat at Ryde and we made our way down the Parra freezing our butts off. Cruised around south head and went a bit south to go to our flathead spot and it started to rain. It disappeared in about 45min but as soon as it did the wind picked up. It made it hard to drift in 40m of water. We had to put the sea anchor out and used a large sinker which made feeling the bites a bit difficult. We ran into some jackets and lost about 5 setups early and we got a bit frustrated. After a little while the wind died down, the jackets disappeared and we were on to some fish. Using a smaller sinker we could feel the bites better and ended up getting 10 flathead, 4 sand, 5 dusky and 1 tiger which I have never caught before. We also caught a banjo shark which put up a good fight and went back in the drink. Then the jackets came back. We persisted for a bit and caught 5 of the bast**ds before we called it quits and decided to head back inside and fish there seems we had dinner. We stopped at a spot near rose bay where my mates uncle caught a nice 47cm John dory last Tuesday which he kept raving on about it being the best fish he has ever eaten. We caught a few yakkas and one squid and anchored up. Dropped the squid looking for a king as we have caught a few of late in the harbour. Dropped some yakkas looking for the dory, and got the bream gear out and gave that a go. Burleyed our butts off for nearly 2 hours and all we got to show for it was a 40cm sand whiting which was pretty good. By then it was 3pm and we called it quits. When we left the sea was flat as a tack and the wind was non existant. All in all it was a good day. Sorry I have no pics as we filleted the fish on the boat and my camera was at home. We also don't know much about the dory. What they like, do they school up or where to find them. We pressume they don't school, like deep water where baitfish are. Any opinions? P.S- we were approached by maratime for a safety check so keep your eyesout and get pulled over as the girl driving the boat and doing the check was a slamming hottie Cheers Andrew.
  4. Nice one. Keep up the great posts and great fish.
  5. He is set up mad for sure. Good boat too.
  6. Yes you will have some upgrades but it would still be good to have your gear. I would be leaving a trap for them and I would catch them and fix them up good and proper if it was me. I HATE THIEFS. Bad luck on the bull shark also. I thoought that may happen as they travel a lot. I think you may need a few trips before you guys get one. Cheers
  7. That is true but try getting your hands on 10 litres of the stuff. Cows blood is easy and will only add to your berley and geting lots is easier. Obviously it is not the only thing you should use, but blood is the best option, better than tuna oil so maybe hit the fish markets on friday to see if anyone has any for you. I am sure with all the fish they gut and bleed there you will find something. Just means a bit of extra prep. Good luck
  8. Brett, I have it on good advice that you need to go to the abbotoir or a big butcher and get yourself some cow blood. My brother in laws uncle used to fish for sharks and swears that a cup full of the blood in the water every 15min depending on the flow will bring any shark around in your vicinity. I know of a butcher in pendle hill which is prob the biggest in syd. I think if you get your hands on the blood your chances will increase ten fold from a wise mans knowledge. I will call them tomorrow and email you what I can get for you. If it is also possible I will bring my light tackle and come have a fish some time fri night. Cheers Andrew.
  9. Today I tried middle head on both sides, balmoral and also manly for a big fat donut on the yakka department. They must go some where. Somebody here will know I hope. Sure makes a hard days fishing going out and fishing for bait for three hours for zilch. Could be worse though, at least I was on the water catching some fish!
  10. Use housebricks with the holes in them. Have a dropper on your line at say 20lb and tie the brick through the hole. When u make bottom yank it and it should break the bricks off. Make sure your dropper is long for numerous drops so you can re tie and make sure you use braid as mono has too much stretch and the line won't breakat the bricks. I would even use a 15lb dropper. I don't think the bricks hurt the ocean either it probably if anything will make a home for something. Cheers Andrew.
  11. I would look at getting something at least 7 foot long
  12. check out this link http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/336320/Sydneys-bull-shark-secrets-on-show.pdf A few things in articles on the net. -By now you would have heard that the Parramatta River is becoming a Mecca for hungry sharks. Concord and Ryde Sailing Club, in the upper reaches of the Parramatta River, has been gripped by shark fever following the recent attack on a kayaker not far from our course area. As Moth Class Captain of CRSC, I offer the following - so rest easy. -BULL sharks regularly leave Sydney Harbour to take quick tours of the city's famed Eastern Suburbs beaches, a tagging program unlocking the secret life of the feared predators has revealed. -A 35-year-old man has had a harrowing encounter with a shark while paddling a kayak in the habor waters just a few kilometers west of downtown Sydney. The man was in in his kayak Thursday evening near the Cabarita Marina in the Parramatta River when the shark struck. He was thrown into the water by the impact and then hit in the chest by the shark, which then began circling him as he swam for help. -They would then often vanish, presumably staying well out to sea, before another quick return voyage along the Eastern Suburbs and back to the Harbour. They can swim long distances quickly, with a 2.5m specimen detected off South West Rocks on the state's Mid-North Coast on January 20 this year swimming back to Sydney - a distance of about 500km - in just four days. Seems like around there are a few around every now and again which dont stay in the one place very long. As long as your persistent and do the right things I am sure you will eventually get one but it seems like they move around alot so it may take a few outings to catch one. I am guessing that around ryde and Cabarita would be good as there are plenty of mullet around at the moment in the upper reaches of parra river and I am sure that would bring some traffic up and down the river. Good luck.
  13. i too was on that charter. What a ride for only 2 Albacore. I got one of those slabs and they tasted great too. oh well, good set up though!
  14. Still small patches of kings around in the harbour and most legal plus. Must be early before too much boat traffic and fish the usual structures and one will come sooner or later. P.S make sure you get the live squidies too! Last 2 outings got me 4. Good ones, 2 @ 1m ,1@ 83cm and 1 @ 75cm. Good luck.
  15. If that was a jewie that would be legal! Got to be proud of that well done.
  16. Most people would be jealous that they were not on the end of their rods catching kingies. Nice catch.
  17. Had the same dilemma recently. A few wise fishos told me to go the high speed for winding the jig faster and when fighting a fish use the rod to lift the fish and the reel to wind the slack. And as far as action goes with a bit of practice you would be fine on any retrieve. Go fo the faster ratio. Cheers Andrew.
  18. I like the saragosa. Just looked it up. In the bluewater ugly stick range does anyone have any experience with them. Are they any good? They are all rated well just don't know how they peform. Thanks
  19. The saltist 6500 says it has 30 kg drag max.
  20. I have been looking at buying a t curve deep jig 500. It looks great and feels light more like a 10kg stick but with so much more grunt. I was looking at matching it up with the saltist 6500 spin reel which is a very solid reel with heaps of grunt and drag power. Been looking for a while and as this is really a jigging rod I may use this set up for other styles of fishing such as baiting for bigger fish etc. Any ideas if this set up is the one for me or is there a better option for me as these items are not cheap. Any ideas will be appreciated. Cheers Andrew
  21. That's a beauty :1yikes:
  22. i have tried the softly softly strategy and it worked for me but if the fish got any sort of idea of resistance that was too much they always did the bolt to some sort of structure. I say watch all the pros as they do it day in and day out and they use line as light as possible for the reason of the line being more invisible rather than tricking the fish to thinking its not hooked. None of the pros use the softly softly they all set their drag right and bring the fish in but what would i know, my name is cant catch any.
  23. save some for me. Catching that many would be a great night. Well done
