  1. Don't forget the good old bream. Always good value and the never fail flathead. Best bets, the Jew is a tough one to learn but I suppose you would have to start somewhere. Any oyster rack in the hawkesbury usually holds a few good bream. Bit of burley and a fresh hawkesbury prawn will definately get u in some action! Good luck
  2. Great fish there mate. Better than the carp I catch.
  3. If you have your line in the water with a bait on it in the right spot you will eventually catch one and many more too I hope. Well done on a nice catch. Cheers Andrew.
  4. Going to be fishing outside Sydney for some flatheads for dinner and then hopefully get into some kings and if I can't wil be back in for some bream and then try to catch a Jew or 2 through a night. Or just maybe feed a whole lot of fish a whole lot of burley!
  5. I recently fit my setup with 50LB braid (maybe overkill) and 80LB leader. Set the drag at 8kg and hooked it to the fridge in the garage and tested it. I was quite happy and am sure next time out it will pick up a big fish if I can hook one. All in all the 12kg rod and 12kg to 20kg reel set with 8kg drag will work good after my fridge/garage test (if you call it a legit test). Cheers Andrew.
  6. Any person on this forum would have slept like a baby and would have had there fix for a week after those kings. Well done, wish I was doing it myself though. Thanks for slapping me in the face with fish I havnt caught. Cheers. Andrew
  7. What shop was it? Do they have 2? Unreal bargain. Now all you need is the hungry shark 3m plus or maybe a giant Ray!
  8. Thanks for the help. Will get a heavy leader
  9. If I set the drag up with 10kg drag and use 80lb main line will that be ok? My main problem is not the weight of the fish it is the fish rubbing the line on reefs etc and breaking it off that way. That's why I want to put heavier line to stop losing tackle so easy. I am not catching any over a metre and if I do find out how and where to catch them it will definatly be time for an upgrade.
  10. It is a pfleuger contender lever drag overhead reel capable of up to 20kg. Fishing for kings with bait. I also assumed that seemingly I only set my drag at one third the breaking strain so 10kg drag would be on with 30kg line so 30kg line will only ever put 10kg strain on the rod. I could be wrong with this thought. Unsure. Thanks Andrew
  11. I have a 12 kg rod and was wondering other peoples opinion on what the heaviest line you would attempt to put. I would assume that 50lb braid shoul be fine but I would like to go as heavy as possible. My reel is definatly tough enough for 100lb but at the same time I don't want to snap my rod. Thanks Andrew
  12. I would also love to go shark fishing off the beach. If you ever need a gaff man pm me. Cheers Andrew
  13. used darwins barra base and caught nothing for 9 hours with my wife on our honeymoon. Can tell u who not to use. Cheers Andrew
  14. Wish I had the problem of losing line. All I do is lose a lot of bait lol. I am with him. Heavy is good as if they are on they will smash your livie no matter what and it's better to land one than lose 6. Cheers.
  15. I rig, re-rig and then re-rig and then read all the posts every day on this site after watching all the fishing shows on foxtel after reading all my fishing mags after greasing all my reels.
  16. I burley frequently with a burley bomber to drop my burley on the bottom where i fish. I have had good success with burley but the last time I fished at night I didnt use it as I was lazy. I got lucky and caught 2 jewies 65cm long. I was wondering if burleying is a technique used for jew or does it attract too many other fish which scare them away? Not sure but I am going to try anyway. Not asking for any secrets, just wondering if burleying is a waste of time for jews as it can be hard work chopping up pillies all night. Cheers Andrew
  17. Sweet fish there mate. Makes me want to get out now and try myself! They will be a great feed to.
  18. Thats not a bream its a horse. Nice one. Bet it went hard too
  19. Test the boat. Catch a few fish. On the water on a work day. You had a better day than most of us and good luck to you. Well done
  20. Why don't both options get done? Education and lifejackets? When I go rockfishing I wear a pfd and it makes me feel more comfortable. I only wear it as one time my cousin almost died from going in. He was very lucky. If it wasn't for him I would wear nothing and just say make them learn. I have seen what can happen and was lucky for my cousin to get away with it. We are Australian and just were too cocky and got taught a lesson. Some lessons could be worse. Sorry for the strong opinion but its close to me. I know 99% fish safe but 1% don't which ruins it fo everyone as the media blows it out. But even if it saves 1 life a year I thinks it's worth it. Cheers andrew
  21. Unfortunatly we live amongst many uneducated people of all sorts. Educating will definatly help but it won't stop people from drowning. Some people have confidence to the max and thinks they are invincible but the sad matter to the fact is that mother nature doesn't pick or choose it just does what it wants. The only thing that saves the experienced people from dying is they know when to stay at home. If by some chance even the most experienced rock fisherman gets taken in you are in trouble. I say suck it in and make them compulsary for everybody to stop deaths. I know they may not be the most comfortable way to fish but it's better off than being dead. I think that lifejackets are a must as where would you start any other way? Education? Our government can't even organize a piss up in a pub! And how many people take note? Most but not all. I don't want to offend the exp rock fishos who know they won't die but nothing is for sure is it. I say make lifejackets compulsory for rock fishos to save lives and fine them too if they aren't wearing them. Saves some poor old police officer from having to tell just one person that their loved one is dead I think it's a winner. Once again, some people are against wearing them and I am not trying to offend, just hoping no one else dies from a sport we all love. Cheers Andrew P.S Maybe even making it compulsory to wear them atoms open ocean only? I don't know, something though. Ask the families of the recently passed people what they think? I'm sure they would have something to say. Cheers again and happy fishing.
  22. went to the fish markets last week looking for them and couldn't find any.
  23. I am fishing this weekend regardless. In my experience I find that when the wind is up and the seas are bigger I find that the actual catching of good fish is better. The only down side is it's uncomfortable and the wind plays havoc on drifts and the lines. I have always seemed to do better on bad weather days than good. I don't know if this is just a coincedence so if anyone has their ideas post them. I will let you know if it made the fishing ordinary this weekend. Thanks.
