  2. Cheers Aaron for taking me n johnny out in ya boat, we had a top day with ya and it was fun, except for dropping your flattie beside the boat but hey, thats fishin. Maybe we can do it again soon??? Anyways if you are cool I'll PM you my number and if you need a decky one day let me know. Cheers mate again, much apprecaited! Anthony
  3. Yeah, thanks Stewy for a top day out, and I was the bloke who you were showing me the knot for join braid/flouro Yep, Johnny cracked the mother of all Whiting (41cm to the tip) and numerous Flatties, Trevally and a honking 35cm Breambo Meanwhile I managed to snare a legal flattie (my first ever on plastics) but I let him go due to having a lot of fish in my freezer, but it was a buzz to get out and catch my first- next step is to get myself a good graphite rod (thanks to my mate who lent me his overnight and for yesterday) what a champ!- one of my best mates loans me his gear and says "go for broke on them flatties"- now I am hooked and I want MORE! Time to go sepdn some $$$ I reckon, hopefully I can lash out tomorrow and get a new rod and some more plastics- then catch up with Johnny again very soon. Thanks Stewy, Donna and all the FR who made the day a top day out. Tight lines Anthony
  4. I too am a FR freak, I am constantly on here. Morning, during class, after class, night time weekends. My Wife says I have a one tracked mind- yer! I agree, its all about the fishing. If Im not here then Im checking weather, tying new leaders and making up new rigs, or talking to mate organising our next session... When am not doing that I habit the web's multitude of interesting internet fishing sites (and there are a lot). Fishing isnt a matter of life and death, its way more important! - this is my new motto, lol Tight lines Anthony
  5. Great stuff Marty! I fished there on a charter @ the end of high school and the Coral Trout are for sure one of the finest eating fish around. Great to hear you got a few different species while you were there, its always great to add new ones to the list and shorten the list of "to catch" species. Tight lines Anthony
  6. Nice Brett, thats top stuff! We need to get out together and chase a few Noah's on the beaches in the next few weeks. I'll flick you a PM and give you a call early next week to organise something Anthony
  7. Craig, Its a bit early from the bigger Sambo's but off most beaches Taylor, Bream, Jewies, Whiting and Salmon Fish sunrise/sunset for Taylor and Salmon, Fish nights for Jewies, Fish daytimes and ealry evenings/mornings for Whiting and Bream Baits?- I like beaches worms, mullet slabs, slimey mackerel slabs, and good old pippies (where you can get them), pillies also work OK as does squid strips Up that way the best beaches are for sure Nth Entrance, Avoca, Nth Avoca, Wamberal and Forresters Beach. Good luck mate Anthony
  8. Good catch, I have been catching Brem on 6/0's off the beaches in Broken Bay recently, and best bait is Mullet and slimeys on the neaches, and chicken is a top bait for the rivers Tight lines Anthony
  9. Yer, its cheaper for me to buy and store bait up CC then to buy and store it down here in Sydney... Average 1kg of Mullet here is $9- per kg, up there its $3- per kg. SO< if I buy 5kg mullet for $15- and spend $10- in fuel to get there as opposed to paying $45- here then I still save $15 or $20-... Makes perfect sense to me considering my weekend fishing is always up Broken Bay anyway, I just bring the left overs home for mid-week outings locally on LCR or Parra River. Was very surprised to get the Bream first cast, I was really chasing Taylor and Salmon... I got the Taylor but still no Sambo's... I suspect early mornigns might be better for them as opposed to late arvo/evenings. Cheers for replies Anthony
  10. OMFG! STONKERS the lot of em Put mine to shame, lol I thought a 50/60cm Greenback went hard, 71 would really give you some stick, lol
  11. G'Day all, Well I was only going up tom my Mum's to collect the rest of my mullet and slimey mack she had kept for me, and I nedded no excuse to use this as an opportunity to go dangle a line @ my favourite beach. With the Mrs taken the kids out I high tailed it up to Gosford and got to my destination (bait stop - Mum's) by 11am... after a chat about this'n'that I was away about 1:30 and on the sand by 2. I decided to only take 1 slimey and 1 mullet on the sand with me today- so first cast I lobbed out a slimey fillet on snelled 6/0 out into the briney- after about 10minutes wait I was getting bites, then I was ON- a few minutes later I had a nice 39cm Bream at my feet and gee was I excited! The best lookin Bream I have seen since I was a kid, and althought not the biggest was still a cracker. Well, things went quiet for a while with a few missed strikes here and there until the low tide around 4pm (sunset), then I realized I was out of bait- after a quick run to the car I had more mullet and a single slimey defrosting in my bucket with the still live Bream... my mate Dave was on way back from up Nth and he popped in for a short time and took a few happy snaps of the Bream as it was all I had @ the time ... Then it hotted up again- I threaded more mullet fillets on the snelled rig and instantly I was on again- this time to a 44cm Taylor YIPPEE!!! Nerst cast- again ON- another Taylor coming in around 48cm Was down to last slab and I chucked it in close- a few nibbles and out come a 44cm Flattie Sensational Day Here are Dave's piccies of me & my ALL time LOVE (Bream) my piccies will be uploaded when I can locate my USB cable for my phone, lol LOVE IT!
  12. Good haul matey, well done... Seems the hawkes is really firing up ATM, might be now the rain has cleared and the nice warm days.... What a stonker that LJ is I wouldnt want to be fishin too light with that one around, lol Good on ya budd Anthony
  13. Well done Nathan, thats a great Jewie Were you on Lane Cove last night??? Next time you are in the area give me a call I would be happy to tag along- if you want me number send me a PM or get it from Johnny. Likely catch up next weened @ the social if you are going. Tight lines Anthony
  14. Top flattie Marcel, and good on ya for putting her back in the H2O- I would have been awe-struck to watch that one sswim back to the murky depths she came from. She woulda been in her prime and its a good thing to practice soem C'n'R sometimes. Been getting any jew lately??? later mate Anthony
  15. SWEET! Thats one helluva kingie for LB, puts may people I know who catch em regularly to shame Funny my mate landed an 82cm one from Parra River earlier this year on 10lb mainline with 12lb leader, same setup as you got only he was using 2-4kg bream gear, and he nearly got spooled on the 4 runs it took. NO WONDER YOU ARE STOKED!- I would be too
  16. Im with Robert and am too stingy (I get bugger all mobile converage and even less 3G coverage for internet on my phone) so I only access from home- I use Mac OSX and Windows XP/Vista workstations and Server 2003 @ home For my mobile I got a Nokia e63 but I am a but partial to the iPhone and iPad, aswell as Windows Mobile devices- my next phone is guaranteed to be an iPhone and YES I will pay for a decent data plan with a different provider than I am with now. Even trying to send an MMS from my network to its parent provider I get errors on erach send MMS, but TXT is fine- goes to show how flaky the 3G network is with my provider when I cannot even send a picture of my fish to my mates on other networks, sometimes I cannot even send to same network- mix of congestion and name resolution problems... Sorry I am blabbing now I'll shut-up, lol Anthony
  17. v.nice Teraglin mate, you dont often hear of them coming aboard these days- I used to see the local Nth Coast boys coming in to the cleaning tables @ harrington breakwall loaded with them, along with Pearlies and Mowies/Reddies when I was a kid. ... brings back many fond memories of one of my all time favourite spots... thanks for sharing a bloody nice fish and the flattie is a croc too... Well done mate Tight lines Anthony
  18. Nah, I didnt weight mine, but I reckon close to 5kg would be pretty good estimate. Here's a piccie of it... you can see the rip in its gob when it went into the sand and tried to throw the trebles of my lure, he came up and was filled to the gills in sand, took me an hour to clean all the grit outta him but he was a fantastic fighting fish, possibly the best fight I have ever had on light line for sure. I only measure them really when I have my measuring stick with me (brag mat) I notice that the Sambo's I have caught off the beaches are usually caught within an hour or so before and after sunup, and same for sundown. I have caught them late into the night but they are usually singles and usually one mixed in with a few Taylor- the solo ones are usually the bigger and fatter ones (or so I reckon) compared to the ones the seem to "school up" together. You gotta be there to get them cause they disappear pretty quick and head back out to see of a night time mostly, they dont usually stay inshore. I have sen ones bigger than 80cm dropped on rock patforms late in the night by guys chasing taylor with lighter gear and wirte traces, again these seem to be solo fish on the hunt for a feed and often they are following the Taylor as they attack the pilchards, poddies and other baitfish in and around the beaches and headlands of a night time. That sounds like a pretty good way to cook em, I used to cook Sambo's that way till one of my mates Ash told me about making fish cakes with them, once I made oy first lot I was hooked- but I only make cakes with Salmon, all other fish I catch I either fillet and cook same as you (pelagics like kingies and bonnies) and all other get baked whole with some lemon and herbs. To make the fish cakes: Fillet, skin and debone the Sambo- then cut into thin strips Cook 6 large potatoes till they are semi cooked and you can mash them Add both to a bowl and add in some lemon juice, thyme and basil (chilli optional) along with salt and pepper for some zing Add in a couple of eggs to bind the lot together (I dont do this as my daughter has an allergy yo eggs) so I just do "as is" In the bowl mix the potato, salmon and herbs till they are well mixed together scopp up a handful and roll into a ball... Dip the ball into plain flour and pat it so its fairly flat place in a shallow fry pan and cook till golden on the outside. Serve on a bread roll with mixed lettuce mix, cheese and ranch sauce + other salad ingredients you choose to add (tartare or mayo works well too)
  19. Top Sambo's Steveo- they are top sport and if prepared the right way make pretty good on the plate (thousands would disagree with me but if they are fresh they taste good I reckon!) Good on uya for getting out there and getting some stonkers. my PB is 71 and I fought him for 20 minutes on 10lb mono in a boat, went SO hard and under the boat, then tried to sink my lure into the sand bank, back up around the prop and then put on a few aerials in close to the boat, after what seemed an eternity I finalloy finally netted him- was a real buzz. Love Smabo's from the beaches too, esp if the taylor are around also you can often get both and if you are lucky a Jew or Shark all in the same session as the Jews and Sharsk feed on both Salmon and Taylor, if the sambo's are ON the bigger predators arent too far away. Tight lines Anthony
  20. Yer, breast or thigh is best, when you cut it up cut across the grain so it stays on the hook longer, otherwise pickers can just easily take it all with a few nibbles. I jsut get the cheapest I can get from coles/woolies or wherever, I forgot it should be "skinless" for fishing Another good idea is to soak it in tuna oil or juices from pillies or left over fish frames for 12 hours so it has extra scent, it can also help to toughen the meat. Other blokes I know mix it with parmesan cheese and garlic but thats not my thing, each to their own I guess... What works for me might not work for others and fish in different systems will react to each recipe in different ways. Good luck! Anthony
  21. Thanks for the update Donna on what to bring along, I will be coming with Johnny (fisher doi) Cannot wait for it, just hope the weather holds up See ya all there! Anthony
  22. Top arvo on the stones DGF A few nice fish for your effort, gee that ray is freakin HUGE! Shame you didnt see the monster byt alas thats fishin- win some and lose some, lol Tight lines Anthony
  23. Yep this weekend is looking pretty good, last night would have been a cracker- no wind and not bad tides (although very late) I'll give ya a buzz later today or early this evening organise an outing over the weekend. Anthony
  24. Blue Nose Bream on unweighted chicken strips- fish around rock walls, oysters and pylons or wharves... Never fail to land a few Bream on light line, by catch are Whiting, Flatties, Leather Jackets, catfish and pinkies, tarwhine and sole Offthe beaches are the Jew/Taylor/Salmon/Shark options Snapper, Mowies and Tuna on the reefs and hoodlums out wide ... possibilities are endless once you find a spot and know how to fish it properly- if you dont know how to fish the area (and each area is different) then you will go home fishless- that happened to me last year till I learned how to fish the spots I was trying to fish... now I never go home fishless- and they my catches are getting bigger and better now with the cooler months. Its going to be a red-hot winter for me amd my mates this year and it has just started. Tight lines Anthony
  25. WOW! Stonker yella @ 3kg and nice fat Cod- both in very good condition too. Top catch mate Tight lines Anthony
