  1. Now that is easily the best post I have ever seen on any site. That was unreal mate, especially like the cameo performances and cannot believe the willingness of all involved. That is the utmost for the saying - the family that plays together... stays together. I love it. There will be plenty of replies to this - hold onto your hat and you can expect report of the month prize in the mail in a few weeks.
  2. Well done mister camel, nice way to christen the boat. Maybe the drenching was a washing away of your sins for past non-event trips to that spot. I am sure you only take me there when you know it will be no good and are just looking for a quiet beer with no action to spoil a good thing. Nice double report from your mate - seems like you both caught the same fish. One day people will realise that deleting the original post before replying is the way to go - this one just takes the cake eh.
  3. Well done mate, couldn't bag a trick myself in the AM, looks like the broad daylight was the go.
  4. Thanks Wobbler and Peter, smoked tailor are great mate, thats why they are all gone - eh Pete. Would be more than willing to sling a few your way... gotta feed the masses first though, my hungry crew and the neighbours get priority for putting up with my early starts and outboard flushes.
  5. Gave it a good shake this past Friday morning out and around Botany Heads and a little further north but not much to talk of. Managed a half dozen Yakkas down the Molineux wall early and with a couple of fresh squid was looking to get a King or two before the promised southerly blew in. Well try as I may downrigging and tossing lures around - the only kings to come out and play where real undersize, 55's and the like..... oh well. Did snag a bunch of tailor for a feed trolling little jet heads out of the Bay and of course a few Bonnies out and up north... not what I was really after but fun. Nice day out there none the less.
  6. Congratulations guys and what a great father son fishing story. I was twice your age Matt to peg my first black and I had my old man on the phone quick smart. He was a small species fisho but proud as punch none the less. With kids of my own now we have all this to look forward to. Thanks for sharing your moment.
  7. Depending on how bent the arm is as to whether it will be difficult to slide out through the tilt tube that runs at the top of the mounts. The whole operation of changing the steering cable is not hard just a bit fiddly depending on your specific setup. The steering arm and the cable are usually a one piece affair so you do the lot. Great way to get to know your boat by fixing things yourself and what with all the info on the net you can get a good idea if you are up to it or if you should have a tradie look at it. Go to the boating section for a look around and try asking there. Good luck and that southerly looked to catch a few guys out.
  8. What a report, with members like these fellas you guys have it made. Very fetching picture of a young Byron. Those kids will never look back after a day like that.
  9. The looks on those kids faces says it all mate. Can't wait to get my two out there in the years to come. Those pics are gonna have your missus either very proud or very worried. Hah.
  10. Mate I gotta say, that is hilarious but unreal. What else can you say about that. Imagine lugging that thing down a cliff with the controller and all your usual gear. Could get a cheap dinghy at that price.

    Cronulla

Well balanced report Peter, we all see people doing the wrong thing at times and are quick to jump up and down, but rarely mention a word of good practice particularly by those thought to do the most damage. I have a mate that longlines for tuna based down south and if you were to get onboard and see their operation you may have a different view of the day to day goings on. Great to hear a fair and decent view of what is out there as a whole.

    Cronulla

Hey Peter - nice work, should get a gig on the surf sites. Bit of extra cash on the side for a few pics on the way back in after fishing. Hah. Yeah I went for a quick run early (about 5:30) and the swell was up and had to keep my wits about me. I only hung inside Jibbon a bit for one squid then shot back. The surf was pretty wild yesterday but good fun to be out amongst it all, Voodoo and the reefs looked mad. Anyway, great pics mate.
  13. Iceman, we use the hole in the wall regularly on all tides and have found it to be no trouble what so ever. I have a 15' F/G runabout and drive on as does my mate with his 17' quinnie. Of the two, my mates f100 yamaha four stroke is the heaviest and with the usual precautionary tilt of the motor at the right time - no worries. To be honest neither of us have thought this ramp to be anything but an all rounder with regards to tides and until I read your post had not even considered it otherwise. With regards to wind it is also an easy option in most local conditions.

    Cronulla

Great surfing photos Peter but a sorry tale to go with it. I saw that trawler while surfing off North Cronulla around lunch time and wondered what it was doing. It even looked to be up to no good from inshore. When the swell is up from the right direction those sand bars are a great novelty surf location. The breaking waves get pretty close what with the channel being narrow eh.
  15. Great effort, awesome shark and what a beauty your Berty is. Well done all round and it is total rubbish what they think banning Mako captures is gonna do. A few taken every now and then after an effort like that.... uninformed pollies are a joke.
  16. Just down along the Molineux wall toward Yarra bay there is a little reef a bit out from where the honeycombs change from being jumbled to organised. Pretty easy to see this feature in the wall and the reef on your sounder.
  17. Still a good bagful to finish up with mate. Better to have lived and lost than not lived at all. Spying the turtle and all - a pretty good day none the less.
  18. Thanks mate, more luck than anything I reckon. Haven't bagged many squid lately and was getting in that frame of mind where you question yourself and get in a spin. What gear? What jig? Where to try? This fishing gig takes patience eh.
  19. Dropped the boat in this morning after replacing the water pump last night and gave it a blurt to test it out. Gotta take a rod just in case eh.... Whoa, the swell is up pretty solid from the south but real clean with a light sou-westerly so just hung around inside at Jibbon. The pump was on the job fine so I cast a jig over the weed beds near the Royal Motor moorings and came up trumps with a good sized squid for only a few minutes work. Didn't really wanna miss the first decent swell we have had in a while so headed back with a treat for dinner and no motor worries, bit of a bonus for what was only to be a quick test run.
  20. Good goin' mate for an quick arvo session. That photo is mad - without the background the symmetry down the middle is incredible. Check it out.
  21. Even our lesser sized east coast samsons give a good fight mate eh. Sort of a special treat instead of a king being just as good table fare. Not as pretty though, look a bit like a mongrel dog.
  22. Good onya mate, making the effort on the poddies and a bit of yak bite back - just desserts with a good red. Love the onboard photo straight out of the briny.
  23. Thanks mate, I check 'em for legal size against my rod grip and would say about 32 and 36cm. They both woofed down a couple of the bigger nippers in the bucket. Fun on my 1000 reel.
  24. You would be suprised what fun can be had if you hit up any local guy with a boat down on the Coral Coast. If you can rustle up a driver or transport, there are guys around the villages or even the low budget resorts willing to take a few blokes for a run in the channel out front for a few hours. If you get fish sling 'em a couple and you never know... A while back we took a TLD15 and a two piece each for some great times in between surfing - scored some good GT's and mackeral and ended up eating the fish at the local guys sisters wedding the next day. You don't need anything flash, a couple red and white hard bodies and maybe a skirt on wire. That channel between the land and the outer coral reef is alive. Left the guy our lures and might be back one day. By the way, he was down near Seashell Cove if it still exists. Heaps of Euros get down there for the diving, that is the local guys usual gig.
  25. Keep an ear to the ground what with the Bill Heyward on this weekend. There has been a few around of late and those guys will be giving it their best crack.... hope to see some good reports in the game section.
