  1. I remember may 12 or 15 years back getting 5 in a day off Sydney...Unfortunately it's taken that long to get the next one...and yes very good feed.
  2. Nice work Rexaway. I just saw this after I posted my report. The certainly are a welcome bycatch and a great feed.
  3. After a busy day Sunday went for a fish Wednesday with high expectations. Demipouce had posted in the Desperate and Boatless so invited him along. We set the gear around 7 am and trolled east and in 66 fm had a bite on the left rigger which took a fair bit of line but then was just dead weight on heavy gear and was extremely surprised to see a Wahoo appear at the boat. After a couple of early morning text messages (thank you Donna for your help) to find out what we needed in the photo for COTM and several quick photos we resumed our trek East but apart from a couple of striped tuna the rest of the day was uneventful dispite beautiful water and quite a bit of bait the Marlin and Mahi eluded us but it was a very pleasant day for a boat ride and got to meet another nice guy through Fishraider and hopefully next time will get him that Marlin he's so keen for.
  4. You're entitled to your opinion finin....I know the size doesn't show from this shot but the fact you call it a black makes me consider your opinion irrelevant.
  5. This is second hand info I gathered a few years back but something I never had time for but further west along Silvers Beach wading out using SP's and small lures can be very productive. Work the sand flats and weed patches for Flathead mainly. One of the fishing Mags didn't a good write up on it a few years back and I got all keen and chased up on it but time became an issue for me but it's something I always wanted to try.
  6. Took an old school friend for a fish Sunday. We caught up at a reunion in August for the first time in nearly 30 years and he said he loved fishing but couldn't catch anything decent. We left Cronulla at gentlemen's hours and put the small lures in 20 fm as there's been a few fish in close as we got to the Plonk Hole a bite on the short corner turned into a Striped tuna about 4kg and he was wrapped already but I assured him there would hopefully be better things to come. In 80fm we switched to the bigger lures and started to work toward Browns. About 11 o'clock the left rigger cracked and as I turned a very angry Blue Marlin was horizontal going sideways across the spread before turning at us. I was doing close to 20 knots trying to keep him out the back while we cleared the deck before he settled down and emptied 400 meters of line against a solid 15kg of drag. Almost an hour later a stubborn fish earn't himself a NSW fisheries tag and we had a 150kg Blue marlin lying beside the boat. After a few hi 5's and a celebratory beer or 2 we worked wider of Browns and got a nice 10kg Mahi and true to form as soon as I stated to fillet the first one a second smaller fish jumped on to join his mate in the esky. With no more action on the tide change we headed towards home and then in 68fm of Port Hacking the left rigger started screaming again but this time a nice Black marlin of 90-100kg started to do his stuff but after charging the boat as well we couldn't keep the hooks in. Was a greaqt day on the water and certainly looks like a good start to the season. Here's hoping they hang around for a few more months.
  7. If you follow the links you will see that the fin is simply bent up under the body. The fishes condition has nothing to do with human activity but all about nature.
  8. There was a lot of publicity last year I think of a Blue Marlin tagged including video with the same Leucism condition. A white shark of that size would be very young so will be interesting to see what other information fisheries can gather from it.
  9. Blowing here now..I'll be out tomorrow if anyone else is going.
  10. Good luck tomorrow. I cant fish but should be out Wednesday.
  11. Shimano Symetre. I use them for all my light tackle work now. At just over $100 great value for money.
  12. Expect to find dirty water in close and given flooding on the central coast beware of debris if running. In the past following flooding the dirty water can shut down the inshore side of things but as long as the current is running and you find clean water it shouldn't be much of a problem wider.
  13. I'm no expert on batteries so will leave the set up to someone else but I do believe all boats should carry a jumpstarter as a safety measure and in your cases sounds like a great fall back. The only other thought is that while your alternator will charge the battery if you are fishing close to shore it's not getting a lot of time to do it. I know when I fish close in doing short runs between spots and drifts I dont put nearly as much charge in as say a 10 hour day at trolling speed which I often do and keeps my batteries topped up.
  14. I'd have to agree with giving them at least 1km. Apart from upsetting them if you cut off a fish you don't need 500 plus meters of line or worse still braid wrapped around the shaft.
  15. Maybe to water seal the lid you could try some rubber sealant around the lip use an occy strap from the handle to a couple of hooks around the edge. If you are able to lower your overflow outlet a few inches may help reduce slop too.
  16. I think any boat and in particular trailer boats should carry a jumpstater anyway. $100 odd dollars peace of mind.
  17. I did see those bins at Bunnings recently and thy are a small version of the council bins and are only 100 lt and should work fine as long as it's well secured in position. Full is 100kg or the weight of one person so if it starts moving around the deck it can really destablise the boat.
  18. Ian Bat has covered pretty well everything. I may be a case of just knocking on doors in person and showing you're keen and hoping that someone is looking for staff. I wouldn't completely discount the larger chain stores either as with Xmas and New Year holidays coming up even a couple of weeks casual work will be a valuable addition to your resume.
  19. Good luck/ We fished Friday and went wide but found the best bait and activity back around the 150-200fm area. Got no bites but saw one free jumper and was very quiet out in 500-600fm. Current has eased off but water is turning over every day.
  20. Had a tough day Sunday myself. Thought I'd run around from Cronulla to Botany so the kids could get a few blue swimmers. Hard work and big crowds produced 3 crabs a whiting and a squid. Noreaster blew up and was drifting at 1.5 knots but a pleasant day anyway. Yowie can I ask what you do with the Pike? They do make good swim baits for Marlin but noticed you bled that one so was wondering.
  21. I assume your main concern is electrolysis which you should be ok. As long as the coin doesn't come into contact with a power source like a battery lead or power lead the saltwater and aluminium alone wont do any damage.
  22. haven't heard reports of anyone but current has picked up a bit so will probably be hard getting to the bottom at all. I'm sure the fish are there but tricky this time of year when the current picks up.
  23. Fair point...I assumed he meant Bate Bay but may be wrong.
  24. It is but I believe it is soon to be closed to Jetskis for beach launching I heard on the weekend.
  25. Even drifting if you are shark fishing or cubing I have got something like that quite often too.
