    Snaps

To me that looks like a smaller version or modified version of a piggytail snap or corkscrew snap. I've only seen them in heavy tackle version before but a quick search found something similar.

Unanimously will run in race 5 at Randwick. His first race in almost 15 months. Fell Swoop in race 6 at Moonee Valley.
  3. Do you mean it's ridiculous that you agree with Scratchie?.. I must admit I agree but I can think of a few times when I've released just legals early in the day then get 1 or 2 good ones later only to think the just legals would have meant a decent feed. Frustrating but really there's not much meat on the just legals anyway. I'm pretty sure Fisheries do it that way to remove any potential argument from the equation...If you fish cant make length that way then it is way under normally.

I've got 2 runners this weekend....
  5. My daughter wasn't impressed when I wore this to school pick up. And she's only 10.
  6. Maybe Roger Rogerson wouldn't be in jail if he had one.
  7. And a week after you decide there'll be a new one.
  8. There aren't well insulated but they will work.
  9. I wont laugh about that but I do know someone that before they were widely available had a body bag from the morgue.
  10. The Dragonfly is good value to me and adds a new dimension to shallow water fishing although I haven't played too much with it and so far have been a bit of a turn on and of user. The sidescan when you go over reefy areas like around Jibbon is awesome but not to say others aren't either. Problem with technology is you cant keep up. GPS I read in reviews is easy to use but again as a backup unit I haven't read the instructions so still working through it. If you want to have a look let me know and I'll see if we can take it out for a run.
  11. They are great. I have a different brand from before that model was out. It's just a straight envelope style and holds fish and ice well but doesn't sit upright on the deck like the one you've shown. I suggest if you do get one you freeze a couple of 600ml or 1.25lt soft drink bottles as well as they will help decrease the temp and prolong your ice. There are a couple of different brands but I don't think there is much between them and more a case of picking which size fits your needs.

Does anyone else own racehorses or enjoy a punt? I have a couple of handy ones running around lately and enjoy a windy Saturday arvo at the RSL watching races when I cant fish or get to the track so thought I'd see if anyone else might be keen for an afternoon on the punt when the weather keeps us off the water.
  13. There's a good tackle shop there that will pack it in a tube to bring back if you get caught and are prepared to pay the excess for the return only assuming you need to.
  14. Flying to Vanuatu last year Virgin quoted me $55 each way for a rod tube so I bought 2 travel rods instead for the kids to fish in the lagoon that would fit in a suitcase. Coming back the guy at the counter next to me had bought a rod over there and was trying to check it in. I felt sorry for the poor girl at the counter who was just quoting their policy but at the check they wanted $110 excess one way. It was getting quite heated as I left but they local girl serving doesn't have any option.
  15. My parents gave my son cash last Xmas to get his junior license as he turned 12 in January. We had a couple of attempts at fitting other courses but seemed to always have sport or something else that clashed so for the July school holidays he had an extra week off and I contacted one local school who said they would put on a private course if we had 3 boys. A message on the school years Facebook group and I had 7 signed up in a couple of days. They ran the course and theory form the St George MBC and then split them into 2 groups for the practical in the afternoon. All boys passed and enjoyed the day. Being underage they needed an adult with them over lunch as it is a licensed premise but for 6 parent it was a simple drop and collect. I will also send your a message Donna.
  16. I've had nothing but good service from them too. I had the same situation last year with a jig rod that was 6 or 7 years old that they no longer made. People must understand that all things including tackle will break it's the way the manufacturer deals with their service after that is important.
  17. Just a word of warning to check your luggage allowances. Some of the cheaper airfares will treat a rod tube as a separate item and try to charge excess baggage at ridiculous rates. The Terez is great but at 7ft6 might cost you half the rod price in excess if you get the wrong person.
  18. Sorry but just to explain my brief answer. I have the Furuno 587 with a 1kw thru hull transducer but my boat had a second small unit mounted on the dash which I used for surface bait when trolling and when reef of inshore fishing. When the GPS aerials died I looked to replace it with a smaller unit and wanted internal GPS aerial for less new holes to be drilled. The unit is great and does far more than I am using it for. I actually went the 6 inch version at the time for less obstruction of vision and because they had a package deal at the time including the map card. There are plenty of good unit on the market and sure that other will recommend different brands through their own experience that just my take on the one that I have used.
  19. I bought the Dragonfly and very happy but you are right there are plenty of good options.
  20. around the corner Yowie.
  21. For me the Saragosa seems to be the happy medium for value for money and drag if you aren't looking at those extreme heavy tackle situations. Rod wise is huge. I have a couple of the new Black Terez but as much as they suit me there are probably another 20 on the market that could fit the bill.
  22. threadline or overhead and do you have a budget?
  23. Nothing that simple Steve...I did think the flathead may have been related to David Copperfield but then why wouldn't he have got himself off the hook. Anyway back to harvesting fluff...Maybe if I work hard I can get enough to make my wife a cushion for Xmas.
  24. So went for a few hours bottom bashing yesterday and got a nice bag of flathead but had something happen that I found bizarre. Using a straight forward 2 hook paternoster rig using some 40lb trace material no different to anything anyone else uses I dropped down a 1/2 pound standard snapper lead and hook a nice flathead almost as it hits the bottom. When I get it to the surface there's no lead. Keeping in mind I have been fishing for an hour and know I used the same loop connection for 30 plus years when I checked the end of the line the loop was still 100% intact. NO biggy but keep thinking about how the slack line could have feed out enough for the lead to slide off then end. I'll add the to things you think about when you run out of belly button fluff to play with.
