  1. Bumpy but not rolling...YET
  2. Just sitting here watching the swell pump in over Jibbon Bommie. It started to build around lunch yesterday but now there's at least a 1 km wall of white water rolling from the bommie to the north and Middle ground and the Merries look as bad. This should continue through the weekend so suggest you make other plans but hopefully when it settles next week it will have stirred the Reds up.
  3. Soft flesh can be a little mussy if over cooked and small bones but otherwise not too bad.
  4. I used to make my own before I found some reliable ones to buy so now I'm lazy. What sort of gear are you talking? Hollow core or dacron is available at a couple of the well know online shops I can PM there names if you can't find them.Tube needles make the job a lot easier. I have a set of the Top Shot needles on the boat and also a small set of Ex-Tex I stumbled across that I keep at home handy. There's a couple of handy videos on youtube if you have a look there.
  5. On the slips for me...Bad timing but had to be done.
  6. The dots on the belly are generally the easiest way to tell. In terms of eating quality they both make good bait.
  7. Had one bite from and Blue that peeled a heap of line and fell off. Weather was good till the late arvo Southerly hit. Not fun into that current but lucky we were only 8 mile from home then.
  8. I'm on a dry spell ATM...I just want to hear the drag sing..
  9. Found a victim...I mean crew...now let's get him stretched.
  10. Pearl Perch...they taste like rubbish so if you could clean it and drop it to my place for dinner I promise I will respect you in the morning.
  11. didn't want to sugar coat it Swordy.
  12. Got room for one person Monday fishing from Cronulla for marlin. I have all the gear and just bring yourself. You will be the winder and expect to be yelled at. You're welcome to have a beer or smoke onboard but if you ask once where are the fish or why haven't we caught anything then it''s a long swim home.
  13. I do when snapper fishing...get a lot take the floaters or follow to the boat so try to leave a bait out when the drift allows.
  14. Been some good flathead catches. Don't have particular spots but 30-40 mt in any of the regular haunts.
  15. I'm sure when I went to Vanuatu on Virgin 2 years ago (so international rules) 105cm was the limit for hand luggage and my rod tube was 120cm so therefore counted as one item of checked baggage. That's why I bought a couple of travel rods that fitted in the suitcases. If you're using 90mm pipe just put the rods in rod bags and put int the same tube and fill the gaps with cloth or rags.

    WD40

Small piece of cloth soaked in linseed oil should stop the rust spreading. The WD40 scaring fish off has been argued to death and I don't think it makes much difference but choose not to try it. Many years ago we heard a theory that wary hammerhead would take a bait soaked in it. We tried it and had one take a bait but other still not so while I'm convinced it wont attract them it didn't scare them off either.
  17. Ok so it's late notice but Seabreeze tells me I need to fish Monday and got no crew,,,boat is fueled and ready to go at Conulla.Let me Know
  18. HI Pres...Generally when we get past 80fm I change over from the smaller lures. Not because I want a larger lure but my small lures are on 200-300lb trace and if I'm chasing blues I want 500-650lb for when we find the big ones and the heavy trace just restricts a smaller lure. These days I mainly troll Koya Lures but Crampton's, Marlin Magic and Joe Yee's sometimes fit in. Generally 12-14 inch lures are my favourites but I do have a couple of 16inch screamers that get a run too and the 10 inch Koya Poi dog Makes more wash than most bigger lures of other brands. If you want to see what I run send me a message and I'll make a time to catch up or maybe come out for a run.
  19. Thanks Pete. Still haven't seen a striped and can't hook those Blacks.
  20. What a difference a couple of days make.We found a trap on the shelf loaded with Mahi around 75cm but left them to find better water. It was green and 24.5 with lots of coral spore all the way to Browns and only a little current running east to west until around 450 fathoms the temp kicked up quite quickly to 26 then eventually 27 degrees and blue water and the current picked up to 2-3 knots from the North. We trolled out to Heatons for zeros before swing south and a couple of miles later had a very small Blue take the short rigger. At around 60-70kg what he lacked in size he made up for in attitude but was reasonably quickly brought to the boat and tagged. Being 35 mile out with the Nor easter starting to blow we worked our way in and in 62 fm had the regulation Black Marlin bite that refused to hook up and that was it for the day.
  21. After 2 unsuccessful trips with Demipounce on my boat we were hoping for third time lucky Friday. We ventured out on a mates 42 Riv Wasabi and were greeted by some average seas but managed to raise a short sighted Black around the Peak that had a couple of cracks but not even break the band. The water in close was warm but green so we headed east towards Browns. Over the shelf the water went blue and got up to 26.8 and shoals of flying fish started to show but the current was raging to the south at around 5 knots. Right on Browns around 1.30 the rigger kicked and a nice Blue around 140kg started to do his thing and after just under an hour we manged to release Max's first Marlin. I think a weight was lifted off all our shoulders. As we reset the lures and I wrapped the band on the shotgun another Blue of similar size grabbed the lure and ripped it out of my hands and was also released 30-40 minutes later. The water out wide is near perfect but with that big current running will stand up quickly with any breeze and don't even think about it if the wind is from the south but hopefully as the current eases we are looking at a good season.
  22. Being at Gymea you are on the edge of a great fishery being Port Hacking.
  23. That's the ones but way too crowded once school finishes or weekends.
  24. The flats in Gunnamatta bay hold a lot of whiting which would be a perfect target but get crowded if you cant get there during school hours.
  25. Small hammers are good too. Obviously you need to pick the right one though. Feel free to Call on Me Mr Eric...
