  1. What Jewhunter said. The same with nippers on a longshank hook, a half hitch of line over the tail to keep the nipper straight and not bunched up.
  2. Think it is my biggest fantail.
  3. Never seen one before in my time of fishing and scuba diving
  4. Just put up with the yelling for a few days, and buy a new rod and reel.
  5. The tailor were a bit late this summer. There have been kingies getting stuck into the bait schools, and a few bonnies as well, but on the last couple of trips I have not seen a decent fish splashing about any where near me. Not even any rat kingies in the burley trail or following up a hooked fish. Maybe they have moved further up river with the clear water.
  6. Good work Basil (and Chris), they look like a good eating size. Dave.
  7. A good feed of reds there. Does Scratchie ever work?
  8. There would be no complaints about that lot, will make for a nice feed or 2.
  9. She might turn into a keen Fishraider now. Would have been a surprise after pulling up a few small fish.
  10. Headed out early to near the mouth of Yowie Bay. The tailor in the first couple of casts with strip baits, then none after that. The bream also grabbed a strip bait, then the undersized reddies come in on the berley, there were plenty of them about, then finally one legal one. Only caught 1 pillie, a few jumping about, but not a splash form anything larger. Threw out that pillie and the flattie grabbed it. While I was trying to catch a couple of yakkas, the jackets swam about, they were cruising a fair way off the bottom, so I used small strips of squid on a small hook. Headed home and as I was looking in the water at the front of mum's place, the fan tail jacket swam into shallow water. Did not take long to hook up, a quick photo and it was released.
  11. Thanks Basil, the whiting fillets were quite tasty.
  12. In an open tinny like mine, just about everything gets wet. Also be aware that in heavy rain, water will seep inside your reels and if not properly dried out, the internals will slowly corrode, even if filled with WD40, oil, grease, etc. I still use my yellow sou-wester outfit. The plastic is starting to slowing dry out and tear, but then it is about 30 years old. I still use thongs on the feet (not the really cheap ones), winter and summer, sometimes bare feet.
  13. Thanks Rick. A live yakka had swimming practice for a while, did not attract anything.
  14. Fished the deep out from Lilli Pilli early this morning. Was hoping for a few tailor, but the only 2 were just under sized. The smaller bream and the reddie were taken on fish baits, as was the flattie which was released. Nothing jumping apart from a few pillies. Headed to Maianbar flats, pumped some nippers for the whiting and larger bream. Was a rather quiet day, some time between bites.
  15. I use size 2 longshank. The hooks are strong enough to also land big flatties, trevally, salmon that will eat nippers and worms.
  16. Find a comfortable spot in the boat and lie down on your back for a short while. It SOMETIMES works, but not all the time. I had the sickness problem the first couple of times I was outside, now, no problems. I don't eat before I go fishing, though I will have a muesli bar and fruit after a while when the bites slow down.
  17. A good sized dolly there.
  18. Some good feeds in those fish, and top it off with a bottle of Mudgee Mud.
  19. Happy Australia Day to all Aussies, and Fishraiders, and those that like our country and way of life.
