  1. For a floater I use wulff triangle taper in ivory colour I also use and old grey cortland 444sl which is a great line and have just bought a cortland Sylk WF 5 of ebay which comes with great reviews but I havent had a chance to use it on the water yet
  2. G'day Agent X You might want to try tying the fly as a bendback You bend the shank of the hook about 15- 20 degrees and it makes them ride point up If you get into a tackle shop ask to see a bendback fly and youll see how it works or someone might have some on Sunday, ( I dont know if I have any left in my flybox} Aha found a Pic You might have to experiment with where you put the bend, with bulkier flies it needsto be further down

    Boat Windscreens

Thanks heaps guys, I'll give the mob at 7 hills a call
  4. You might have seen me I was close in on the NW side of the joey upstream from the bommie trying to catch squid from about 730 for over an hour, heaps of small baitfish in close to the rocks
  5. Yeh, I am looking for my receipt tomorrow to go back and make a warrant claim. Ive got the pump out at the moment to show them, but it wont be going back for repair. I'll huff and I'll puff and blow the house down, I want a new one

    Boat Windscreens

Any one know who I should contact to get a new windscreen for the Pogoboat, Its a plastic screen not glass but its not a straight piece, its basically flat but curls around the edges of the Centre Console supports and extends back about 12 cms at the bottom of the screen and about 4cms at the top and would be 5 mm thick Probably perspex, unlikely to be polycarbonate I would have thought but thats only a guess
  7. Yep this is pump two in about 6 months Its a Rule 500gph. The biggest drama is that it is one of the thru hull fittings I suspect the way I have it plumbed is part of the problem, I think its getting back pressure from the scoop pick up, which is either stalling or overloading the motor. this one has a crack in the motor case and the last one had a total melt down.
  8. It is my sad duty to report another unsuccesful mission on Pittwater and Broken bay Morning did not start off well, when i cracked the windscreen on the Pogoboat. Then discovered the Pogoboat was sulking and had a flat battery, probably due to the bait pump frying again Finally managed a to get a start by fitting the deepcycle battery which meant that no bow mount was available Got out round to the usual spot for squid, no go tried the basin and palm beach as well no squid. Plan 1 of downrigging squid goes out the window, Flicked some Sps around the flats at the back of Elvina and Lovett for 1 small Flathead (undersize) Picked up the neighbour at taylors pt, tried a drift along the back off Palm beach ! small trevor Tried a drift through from Juno to Patonga, zip Wind was getting to be difficult and the skies looked threatening to the north so back to Pittwater Anchored up and berleyed near the Tomahawk couple of little cockney bream All in all not a great fishing day, saw no surface action at all Nice to be on the water but I'm starting to need to score a few decent fish before I have a confidence failure
  9. That looks the business, top idea might have to organise one of those
  10. I would think that they wouldn't fight much in the water but been told they do all their fighting once in the boat Had one in the boat down at Eucumbene one year, well fair to say, the minute dad and I realised we had a passenger , it had the boat. we were over the sides in a flash, lucky we were both wearing waders and had only just pushed off from the bank. horrid thing was coiled up beside the petrol tank, I saw it as I was reaching down the squeeze the fuel bulb, nearly needed new reg grundies.

    Wired

certainly looks like a spot to run extras off, test as per previous posts and if it works you should be right, Use spade clips (from a marine or auto shop) to slide onto the pins. Make sure you have an appropriate size fuse between the connection point and the radio or whatever so you dont end up frying anything.
  12. If the wind is up try this You need a longish rod for this one I use my Blackfish rod Hook, 30-40 cm trace, small brass ring or swivel, another length of trace 60-80 cm threaded through bubble float partially filled to the point that it will lift the bait (yabbie, scrubbie, bardie grub etc) then a bean sinker big enough to moor the bubble float then another swivel then mainline. The aim of the game is to have the bubble float hold the bait off the bottom, but not float to the surface. Works particularly well in windy conditions because the bubble float doesnt drift, and the best spot for it is on the windward shore that has the wind kind of blowing along it at an angle , so that the current caused by the wind and chop streams the bait out from the float a little (less tangles) Doesnt need to be in deep waterand dont cast out too far the fish will be patrolling along the edge of the bank looking for food stirred up by the wave action Its a lot more comfortable fishing the shore in the lee of the shore, (with the wind behind you with a bit of protection from the bank) but the fishing will be a lot better where the wind blows onto the shore.
  13. Heh Heh Yep I'm the QF 21/22 specialist, a yen man. Language is the biggest hassle, tha guys in the Tackle shops round Narita speak very little english and I can order beer ( Sapparo/Asahi ) and order dinner (Shisen men Gyozo) and say hello and goodbye and thanks. However do take up some fish pics if you have some or a couple of old fishing mags with plenty of photos They love em I'm never there long enough to make the trip from Narita to Tokyo (sleep is the priority) but thanks for the tips on the stores I'll keep them in mind if I ever get a longer layover. The 2nd hand golf shops are suposed to be great, the japanese golfers always want they latest greatest stuff so they turn their good gear over. Im definitely NOT a golfer, but I imagine the same mentality applies to their fishing gear and I would love to find where they sell their superceded model Stellas etc
  14. I get up there a bit, Its the only place I've ever struck that if you leave without picking up your change in one of the little family restaurants, they come out the front and follow you down the street to give it to you. That doesnt happen at the larger more western places but Japan is one the most honest places Ive ever been. Ive never been in to Tokyo, but I know were there are tackle shops near Narita Airport. Im going back on saturday and will go out to them again, and will write down directions if you want. I know how to get to them but would struggle to tell you how right now The other guys I go up with know a couple of 2nd hand golf shops that are great value and I would love to find a place that carries 2nd hand fishing gear, so if any one knows of one or finds one let me know
  15. I can set up a lie detector I'll bring along the long tape measure and some marking paint or pegs to set up a casting range and targets. If youve never done it, it might be a shock
  16. No thats perfect Joe the plait loop you have in your backing connects to the braid loop we will attach to your flyline
  17. My 2 bobs worth would be go for the larger reel Youre not going to be casting all day and youre no exactly a weedy bloke so the little bit of extra wt wont hurt The larger spool means you can retrieve line faster (when fighting fish) I always find that a reel is better slightly heavier than lighter (within reason), it seems to stabilise the rod better when casting, I dont know if this is the right expression but "tip heavy" fly outfits always seem harder to cast for me Large spool also means less hassle with coiling, which most intermediate lines love to do Kens right though, cast with it if you can, the reel may feel slightly heavy with the line on it but when your fishing 40 to 60 feet of that line will be off the reel most of the time, ( more when you can cast further) Ive got a 9wt struddie and I use an old solid spool billypate bonefish on it which is a heavy reel or a 9/10 redington large arbour, also not a light weight regards pogo
  18. Only problem is its blown 20 to 30 kts of westerly for the last two days
  19. Great report fish, Well done, sounds like you put in a lot of effort and thought. Are you coming along to the fluff chuckers day, love to have a look at your spey rod, got one myself a while back but dont feel I'm on top of it yet, have only caught fish on it useing a blowline and dapping. Got to admit that the most of my SW FF is done from boats which makes life a lot easier than bank based. Regards POGO
  20. Jaycar also carry little reduction gearboxes, try and grab their catalogue
  21. I can bring the rod collection so outfits to try out shouldnt be a problem, and people with their own rods might like to try out different weights 11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4
  22. Well done Ken. Woukd have loved to have got out there myself today, but I had promised my next door neighbour I would take him out, and unless I need heaps of berley he is a flat water option only, I'm talking mirrror flat. Just had my next work trip cancelled so Illbe looking to get out Sunday or Monday, maybe both, with the flyrod,
