  1. Thats a Brown, I think the other one is a "Lake trout" which is actually a type of Char,
  2. Thanks JJ, might get out a gain on Sunday or Monday and I'll have a look round there. Had my neighbour with me and he goes green in the slightest bit of swell so didnt go round there today Yeah youre right Davel it would have been better to have had a low but had to go for a fish in the time available, and a few other options I wouwould have preferred werent do-able in the time I had left
  3. G'day guys, Anyone looking for a new Sounder or GPS it might be worth having a look at www.graysonline.com.au They have an auction in their computer section with a bunch of Lowrance Sounders and Sounder/GPS Combos Includes an LCX 104 that is going for 2100 odd at the moment and a bunch of others Some colour some black and white Theauction closes on the 12th so plenty of time to do some research first. I was looking for a new computer and saw them, obviously if I was looking for a new sounder I wouldnt have told you lot
  4. Got out for a fish today, Put the Pogoboat in at Bayview at 5'30 and hit the N end of Scotland Island, and the basin for squid, aiming to downrig live squid for kings. No squid, I think that pro bloke caught the last eight in Pittwater. Grabbed a bunch of poddies and drifted Careel bay trying for a flathead Caught a couple of 20cm squire Pretty ordinary day weatherwise No surface action Wound up at 1030 Nice to give the boat a run though
  5. More cynicism, I bet hes sold his licence already. Otherwise he's running a #$%^house marketing campaign ,
  6. My share of cynicism Botany Bay surrounded by labour held electorates Pros all bought out Sydney Harbour and Pitwater surrounded by liberal seats. you guess

    Rust Problems

Rinse all gear that has had any exposure to Saltwater, Even the spray ( just tried yesterday to open my zipper bag of trolling lure to find that the zipper had corroded to death) in fresh water Alow to dry and then spray with SaltX Apart from balls ups like the above were I obviously didnt give the zipper a spray last time I had that bag on the pogoboat I havent had any trouble Used lures are kept separate until they get this treatment. Used terminals, hooks bras rings swivels etc get kept separate and used first next time

Bungan Head, You should have come round for a coffee Joe I only live up the hill behind you from where you took the photo
  13. Well done Ken Sounds like you had a pearler, Graphite fly rods HATE being hi sticked all it takes is the smallest nick or scratch in the rod (getting clipped by dumbell eyes is the cheif culprit) and then when they are in compression ciao bella. Never mind though always better to break a rod on a fish than in a car door or ceiling fan ( been guilty of both)

Thats still a lot for a small baitcaster, I had a 9-11 wt flyreel shipped for 17 US I got charged 35 US for an Okuma TG30 2 speed
  15. That'll work, the best way would be to put a braided loop (different sort of braid this one is braided nylon monofilament) onto the flyline and then put a bimimi twist into the braided gelspun backing and then do a three or four turn loop knot (cats paw) to join the two. If your coming to the fluffchuckers day come and see me and I'll make sure I have some spare braided loops. You can buy them, but I bought a spool of braided monofilament to use as running line and have enough of it for braided loops for a hundred lifetimes so grab afew off me probably go up a bit to 30 , or forty if you can get it, just for ease of handling . flylines break at 35 as a general rule Regards POGO

    Blackfish Weed

Mmmmmmm bled filleted, cut into bite size pieces, tempura batter and just a minute or two in hot oil Yummy Yummy, If youre going to eat the fish whole you MUST MUST clean out the black stomach lining. my luderick rods are an old (1979) butterworth 4144 with a 4 inch spike and the sliding reel seat (first rod I ever home built ) for the rocks and a Abu garcia pommy style match rod 12 footer for walls and estuaries, use a Avon MK 4 (the flash one with drag and have an unused BNIB Avon tucked away) also use the alvey off the rocks if range is a problem also have a Black Queen (my first fishing rod) that I caugh my first and many more blackfish on. Havent been niggerin for about 5 yrs but the recent run of posts had me looking at my floats earlier today Used to fish a lot at the ferry wharf at taronga, lady macquaries chair near the baths , hole in the wall, warriewood blowhole and the wharves around pittwater Edit: Just realised on rereading my post how old that makes me as youre not allowed to fish at most of those places anymore, used to catch the train and bus to get down to the harbour and then spend ages trying to fossick up enough weed to use as bait let alone berley (lucky they like bread, caught a few on that when I couldnt get weed)
  17. Probably best off with Soft Plastics for Flathead at Palm beach, read Kens Articles on soft plastics and on flathead, the sandflats and drop off at careel bay is a good spot as well, try to get there for the last hour of the run out tide (so an hour before low tide) and cast out and around where the sandflat drops off into deeper water ( cast straight out but also put in a lot of casts at an angle along the drop off so that the lure spends most of its time on the retrieve on the slope from the sandflat into deeper water) Berkley Bass minnows in watermelon, Squidgies in black and gold are good starters, about 75 mm long get the guys in the tackle shop to show you how to rig them, its not hard but would take ages to explain just right, a quick demo would put you right. Cast one out and let it sink to the bottom then give two or three sharp lifts of the rod and then pause to let it sink again, lower the rod and reel in the slack line. then do the same until the lure is back to you. keep a good feel as you start the lift as flathead will usually pick it up on the drop and if you lift into resistance you have probably hooked one You are trying to imitate a little fish or prawn darting up off the bottom and then diving back The squidgie videos or dvd is good for tips and I saw that Berkley are doing a deal where you get their dvd and a tackle box with lures and jigheads (30 of each)and a set of scissors for braid line ( if your not using it now you probably will soon) for $39.95 which seems to be spectacular value. Give the guys at Australian Bass Angler (Site Sponsor you'll see their banner at the top of the page) a call, you wont find a more helpful bunch Good luck with it Regards POGO
