  1. Thanks Croydon, but these were like very fine glass like fibres less than half a millimetre long.
  2. Just wondering if any other Raiders have experienced a similar problem cleaning fish. After a nice day on the water off Cronulla yesterday, i was cleaning a snapper and thought that the fish must have had sand in its stomach contents because my hands felt very gritty. After washing my hands i found hundreds of tiny glass like spikes in my hands and fingers. They are really hard to remove being so small and numerous. Is it something the fish has eaten ?

    What is this?

Female blue groper. They will change sex (female to male)& colour (red/brown to blue) either with age or when a male leaves an area. Cheers, Scoop
  4. I'd have to agree with Iceman, baby Big Eye Trevally Cheers, Scoop
  5. Don't get me wrong, but I can never understand the logic when it comes to realising big fish or certain species of fish. If someone catches a large snapper, no one ever asks if it was realised. Surely these large snapper are also breeders too. but for some reason, if someone catches a large flathead & keeps it there are questions asked. Myself personally,I do not keep large flathead as I find them too tough to eat, but I do keep the odd Groper which some people find alarming. What is it about certain species & sizes of fish ? Cheers, Scoop
  6. Martin, I applaude you for your efforts & take heart that we have people with your dedication & experience going in to bat for the average fisherman & their children. We need a voice & I for one would vote for you any day. Thanks again. Cheers Scoop
  7. Great report Centrepin. Was wondering if you walk in from the main road or from the Bundeena end & approx how long does it take. Cheers, Scoop
  8. Mate I just googled Orange Fish Sauce & there are heaps to choose from. Have a look, hope this helps Cheers, Scoop
  9. I tend to agree with Mr. Squidy, the tailor around Sydney probably don't rate as well as those in Perth. The north nsw coast is far more productive if you are after large tailor & there are a few spots on the Central Coast which hold mega tailor at times. Cheers, Scoop
  10. There could be lots of reasons you are not catching much. In my experience, if you have live bait or very fresh bait, fish the tides to suit your target species & use the lightest lines possible you should be onto the fish. It also helps to know the area & make sure you are fishing where the fish are. Lures are effective but you need to apply a lot of thought as to what to use for the fish you are after. It may pay to join a club or ask some more questions on this site. Good luck, it will happen. Cheers, Scoop
  11. Couple of nice whiting there, Squidin. Mind if I ask what type of bait you were using ? Cheers, Scoop
  12. Thats a tremendous fish & well done in releasing it. Mind if i ask what you caught it on. Cheers, Scoop
  13. Also had a friend who has been over twice & trolled all day for zip, although they did catch a few small tuna, stripeys or bonito less than a couple of kgs average. From what he told me I don't think I would worry about it. Cheers, Scoop
  14. Sounds like you had a good 4 days fishing Chris. Always wanted to catch a Venus Tusk fish and I believe they are good eating. Have you tried it yet?

    Dunn Swamp

I would if I knew where Dunn Swamp is. Cheers, Scoop
  16. Absolutely no idea what that is & must be the strangest thing I have seen for a long time. Did you put it back ? Wonder if it would interest the Aust.Museum ? Cheers, Scoop
  17. Great read Poacher. It's great to see kids enjoying there fishing. Plenty of memories for the family. Good stuff Cheers, Scoop
  18. Nice catch fellas. I would say the bird is a young Northern Giant Petrelor Southern Giant Petrel. We have seen one or two over the last couple of years outside Port Hacking. Cheers, Scoop
  19. Well done Roberta, the first jew is always a memorable one. Hope it is the first of many to come in the future. Cheers, Scoop
  20. Some very good comments to increase the size & lower bag limits. Unless we take some positive action this sport will be taken away from us.I can't understand why anyone wants to keep jew at 45 cm anyway. Same as the legal size for bream, not worth keeping. Perhaps we should put together a bag limit & legal size for all Fishraiders to adhere to & be a bit more proactive. Cheers, Scoop
  21. You should send this to Bob Brown & the Greens & tell him that this is the enjoyment he is trying to take away from young Aussie kids with his marine parks. Cheers, Scoop
  22. Nice catch, mind if I ask if you were using bait or lures. Cheers, Scoop
  23. Also forgot to mention that they get bass & ep's up the top of the Woronora River near the "Needles". The bass are only small & few & far between fish. better size ep's down towards the old road bridge at the Woronora river. Cheers, Scoop
  24. Hey Mick, Not sure if your allowd to fish the fresh water side of the weir. Never heard of anybody doing it and maybe you should check with National Parks & Wildlife. I'm sure there are bass up there as they were planning on putting in a fish ladder several years ago at the weir to help there migration to the salt for spawning. Cheers, Scoop PS. Depends on what type of fishing your into. The Port, Georges River & Botany Bay are all good. Can you specify what your into.
  25. Dan, Great effort & even better that you released the fish which were surplus to your needs. It's too that bad some of the "Do Gooders" & Greens don't read these reports as it just goes to show that fisherman in general are our greatest asset when it comes to conserving & managing fish stocks. Well done Cheers, Scoop
