  1. Should be ok but yakkas will improve your chances of a decent fish...
  2. Stokes pt is my neverfail.. Always pick up a legal fish of some sort there.. whether it be salmon, tailor, bream, trevally or flathead.. it never fails for me. I used to hire the boat from where your probably getting it from and i managed to head out to west head and caught some yakkas which turned into salmon and flatties at stokes.. I even had a missed jew there once on a livie... So if i were you i'd be grabbing some yakkas at west head (send one out while your there) then heading to stokes and Taylors Point, maybe have a flick on the careel flats as mentioned and trolling lures around the western side of pittwater in the afternoon will give you a chance at kings, salmon and decent tailor. I have caught a few just legal snapper at Stokes pt (to 34cm) so if you use good bait and burley you should catch a feed! Cheers, Tom
  3. Burley hard and get some yakkas.. Throw one out under a float or if its a nice little one put it on the bottom for a flattie.. Should get tailor, salmon and maybe an early season king on them. Another successful technique is to burley hard with peeled prawns or pilli cubes/fillets and throw a piece out with a hook in it (unweighted) and hope the tailor, trevally, salmon, bream and flatties mistake it for just another bit of burley in the trail.. The earlier you get there the better. If you can snag a squid or two, send it out under a float (ask a kayaker if any there to paddle it out a little) and you'll be in with a good chance of a decent king which have been starting to appear.. Give it a go but try and stick to weekdays as weekends are always fairly busy which in turn can affect the fishing... Good luck! Cheers, Tom
  4. Lovely croc mate! On SP makes it even more satisfying!
  5. Has been pretty quiet... surface action galore upstream from Roseville though! Very early this morning saw probably the biggest bust up i've ever seen! A massive school of big tailor crunching mullet on the surface! No joke for about 30m the water was erupting with massacred mullet floating around afterwards.. Managed to hook a couple landing one 40cm and got bitten of on 8lb leader by a much bigger fish... Flatties have been quiet also.. Cheers, Tom
  6. Cracker whiting mate! Had a ball in MH with them on tiny poppers this afternoon.. Didn't land any that size but spooked a few of a similar size... Next goal is to crack one on a little z-man grubz!
  7. What made it worse is that the rod went down directly under the bridge in the darkness which would have made it 10x worse diving down... not to worry.. already ordered the new baitrunner and a few smaller outfits after gaining sympathy at home!
  8. Personally I haven't tried it before. My best guess is that you probably COULD but it may have some sort of effect on the plastic. The gulp juice is made for Gulp plastics so there may be a chemical in there that could harm squidgies etc.. Best way is to put 1 or 2 in for a week and see what they're like after. Make sure you don't put Z-man's anywhere near gulp juice or other plastics for that matter. They melt... Accidentally left a 6" swimmerz in with the squidgies for a few days and when i next opened that box, on side of the z-man was pretty badly melted/mutated... Let me know if the squidgies go ok with gulp juice as i may do the same in future! Cheers, Tom
  9. One of the guys working on the bridge construction said that he's seen sharks there before... Didn't think the lake had sharks but he was very convincing... Very glad i didnt dive down now!
  10. Yeah i don't think i'll be hanging around that bridge too much... Don't want that happening again.. Apparently there are huge octopus and rays down there so good thing i didn't dive down.. Mullet were still great fun and got busted off a few times as well!
  11. During Winter its all about putting time in. You have to work harder for your fish and try different things. One thing i would get from those quotes is to fish the flats in the middle of the day (if the fish are gonna sunbake its the best time to do it..) and in the early morning and late afternoon fish the vibes in deeper areas. Makes sense to me and in a way is what i do. I often switch to a mix of bait and lures in winter. I managed to find a few gun spots in middle harbour (peaked late june/early july). At the main spot, I'd just fish unweighted baits for a few minutes to get the fish on the bite (caught bream, tailor and trevally) before switching back to lightly weighted SP's. It worked! Especially on the tailor as well as a few legal bream and one trevally. I have never had luck on flatties in winter on SP, only bait. Something to consider.. This time of year the flatties are waking up so get out there, fish hard and you'll get some results! Cheers, Tom
  12. Great report mate! Put something similiar in the reports section if you get the chance! Lee and Josh are great guys and even better fisherman. Went with them in April and the year before... Some nice fish taken and yet another successful trip to weipa it seems!
  13. Today wasn't nearly as good... Headed up towards woolies bridge first... As people who fish there would know, the bridge is quite low to the water so only small boats and kayaks can go under... As i was going under i left the rods in the rod holder positions stupidly and they started scraping along the ceiling.. Put the rod i was trolling with down next to me and as i rescued the other rods this one got snagged and pulled out of the yak.. It also happened to be a decent one too... Okuma V-System reel ($270) and T-Curve Baitcaster ($200ish)... Its deep, dark and the things living under that bridge are out of this world... so elected not to dive down.. If anyone wants to try their luck at retrieving it be my guest... Spent the afternoon in deep creek having a blast with the mullet. First up caught a 39cm model on a little hardbody before i changed to a float rig and caught around 30 in an hour between 20 and 35cm.. Not the best day considering the loss but being on the water is always nice..
  14. Salmon and Tailor at the moment hanging around the places mentioned.. The lures don't have to be big either... Little flathead hard bodies (under 100mm)... Sometimes if they're not biting troll open water .. Don't know why but it works okay for me. Cheers, Tom
  15. I'd say they were definitely the mullet schooling up.. Loads of them at the moment. It gets a little deeper just around the bridge pylons (2m+) so it might be a good spot to flick for bream and EP's on dusk.. I wouldn't try deep creek with bait though... you should have a go at the mullet! They fight hard in some of them are 50+cm too! Just rig up a standard float rig with a tiny longshank hook and a small piece of bread rolled into a ball.. Works well!
  16. Thanks Stan! Looks good I have both jerkshads (5 and 7") and flickbaits (110mm) so will certainly try this out!
  17. Hi raiders, Keen to have a live mullet out the back while i drift around flicking SP's.. Normally i would use a running ball sinker to a swivel, then 40cm trace to a 3/0 or 4/0 circle hook... I have only tried this when stationary and not drifting. Can i use this sort of rig while on the drift? If not can someone suggest a decent rig? Cheers, Tom
  18. Thanks Roberta! Already love it! Your reports are what convinced me to get into yakking and so far i love it! Already i have been able to access creeks where the entrance is too shallow for boats and landbased options are very limited... Hopefully doing an all dayer tomorrow so will post a report assuming i catch a few Yepp Pro Angler 12.. Very good alternative to a boat!
  19. Thanks mate! I'll be going for bigger tomorrow! Run out tide in the morning looks good.. May be windy though so the creeks look like a good option for an EP or two
  20. Hi mate, overall im pretty happy with mine. They're big, stable and move at a decent speed and when moving from one spot to another i always have a lure out the back... To be honest, they are really quite heavy. So far, i have not been able to get it on the car or off by myself... But with good planning you can have someone help you at home and if your launching at a popular area (roseville, balmoral etc..) i'm sure someone would be happy to help you there. The wind just makes fishing in general hard but when its strong you get blown over your mark very quickly and can't fish it effectively. I may look at the stakeout pole. It just goes through the front carrying handle and wedges into the sand. Up to depths of 2m i think so very suitable to narrabeen lakes etc... I will in future try and fish when there is little wind though. At least when im using SP... Top yak though! Beats being landbased for sure! Cheers, Tom
  21. Lovely fish! Looks like a 75 fish Hope you get a 20kg mate!
  22. Thanks Ian! Lost my fair share of sleep over that kayak! Always great to crack a PB, especially on HB! Cheers, Tom
  23. They're great aren't they! I'll be ordering them in bulk when i get the chance!
  24. Hi raiders, Finally took the yak out for a good session this afternoon. Hit up Narra lakes for a couple of hours. Started off trolling my favourite little reidy's 2m diver around (in 2m of water) and nailed a few just undersized tailor to start. Then had a quick look in Deep Creek and pulled a little 25cm bream from a snag at the entrance. Mullet everywhere today.. Free jumping and one literally almost jumped in the kayak! With the wind well and truly howling, i decided to head back. I chucked the little reidy's out the back and after no more than 10 seconds, something hit it. A 30cm tailor... De- Hooked him and put it back out. Around 30m from the ramp, the lure got nailed. Plenty of good head shakes so new it was a nice flattie. A few nervous moments trying to net my first decent yak caught fish. Finally got him in and headed for shore. The flattie measured up to be 52cm. Not a monster but a HB PB for me... Fish was released after a few quick pics.. I'll be doing more of the same next time for sure! Cheers, Tom
