  1. Mack Tuna off Sydney in Winter??? Sure they weren't big frigates? Even frigates are unusualt at this time of year.. How big were the mack tuna? Nice haul of bonnies though
  2. I heard last night that there have actually been a fair few EP's around lately. A few in deep creek but apparently the hotspot is woolies bridge at night on SP. Basically fish for flathead and if they're there they will hit your SP's. Bit cold for night at the moment for me though.. If your keen then definitely give it a crack!
  3. During summer, (February-April in particular) there are some MONSTER flatties up the back of the lake. Look for drop offs or shallow flats dropping into deep water. Know people who have caught flatties to 107cm in the lake! Big paddletails and even trolling small minnows can be productive! Live mullet will catch a few as well!

    The New Yak

Yeah mate, Roseville should fire up say September onwards for most species. There are some nice fish there still but hard to tempt! Downrigger is a great idea! Might do the same once i nail squidding. Watersnake should work well too!

    The New Yak

Hi mate, congrats on the new yak! I'm picking up my first yak in a week so can share your excitement. They're a very good alternative to a boat! Looks like yours is a tandem but still looks awesome for fishing. If no one is on it with you then you could use it as a storage area. If you get a little sounder for it that would dramatically help you fishing wise! That's what i'm doing at least! Cheers, Tom
  6. Definitely bream and flatties mate! Caught them there before. The mouth is quite shallow but areas around it are worth a cast. HB's and SP's are the go in Deep Creek. Its ideal to fish it from a yak but if you walk the bank and cast small hardbodies and 80mm wrigglers into the snags then you should find some fish. An EP if your lucky! Cheers, Tom
  7. Plenty is happening mate. A few Stonking bream around Juno Point with the odd good jew as well. Flint n Steel has big tailor and jewies according to a mate. West head on dusk with ganged pillies will get some good tailor and the odd salmon. Plenty of yakkas around there too , most of which are big too. Lion Island also has a few fish at the moment. Fished it the other week with a mate and got snapper (to 37cm), flathead (45cm) and a few flounder and trevally. Burley is key. Might be worth dropping down a squid or live bait for the odd big jewie that are found there in winter. Just sound around til you find reef and fish the edges of it. There's also a nice drop off on the northern side that holds jew, flathead and snapper. Give it a go and post a report when you get out! Cheers, Tom
  8. If it was in summer it'd be a different story! Sharks galore! Tigers, Bulls, Hammerheads and Bronzies everywhere! Still should be a few bronzies and hammers about but not in numbers. Maybe Jewfish would be an option? Northern Beaches are famous for their night-time winter big jewies! Big strip baits and whole squid are the go! Cheers, Tom
  9. Not sure about Middle Creek but there's parking at Deep Creek. I rate the fishing at deep creek better too. Good bream and flatties with the odd EP and bass. Haven't caught EP's and Bass here but i know someone who has from there kayak. Summer is best though..
  10. Not a bull shark mate. Would have mangled the SP plus they aren't really around in numbers at this time of the year. When the warmer water comes in that might be a possibility but there would have to be some damage to the lure to consider it. Might change the font....... but how is a smaller font going to make it easier to see...?
  11. Where abouts is that? The reserve side?
  12. Thanks mate! Bantry Bay will be the basis of a lot of my fishing so that'd be convenient. Any particular areas that are best? I have got a few at Roseville but very unreliable..
  13. Hey raiders, with summer approaching (kings) and a new yak im in need of a few more squidding spots in middle harbour. You have Balmoral and the spit but if i'm launching at roseville it'll be a bit of a slog to get out there. Anyone got any spots west of the spit, preferably not too much further than Sugarloaf. Doesn't have to be specific but general location would be great. Cheers, Tom
  14. Bad luck about the salmon mate At least you got a couple of nice fish for your troubles.
  15. Jewies are definitely a target on lures. Both SP and Hard Bodies. In fact, at times lures are far more effective than bait! Fishing with SP and lightish gear means you'll get a great fight out of them too
  16. Is the actual wharf under construction? Does this mean no fishing on it for now?? Definitely mate! Some old timers rate it as good as squid for jews. The tentacles are the best part. Good bream on it too!

  18. My personal favourite brands are power pro, stren and sufix. Fins is also good. Have a look at them
  19. To be honest, never heard of that brand... Braided lines can either be very good or very bad. I made this mistake a few years ago when starting out with braid. Bought some cheap braid and within a few weeks got rid of it. Poor knot strength, bad casting and bad quality in general. You are much better off playing it safe but by all means give it a go and see how it is. Cheers, Tom
  20. Sorry mate, completely forgot about the land-based use of it! Maybe have a look at the shimano terez 20-50lb rod. Its 8 foot and looks like it would go well with the saragosa. Definitely worth upgrading to a 1800 to as previously mentioned. Might be worth popping into your local tackle store and asking them about suitable rods. Cheers, Tom
  21. Balmoral has a few. The key is late afternoon or early morning. The squid gather around the wharf at these times thus making it the best time to target them here. I'm sure its not "legal" but if you head down on dusk and no one is swimming in the enclosure, have a few casts within the netted area. Done it a few times and come up with a few nice ones! If there's people around then maybe not but the wharf in general is good at this time as well! Cheers, Tom
  22. Don't have one personally but a mate does and loves it. Uses it for jigging, casting big poppers/stickbaits and caught small marlin (60kg) using it! Certainly a strong reel and is perfect for what you mentioned. When your fishing off the stones you need plenty of power to stop kings and that running you into the reef. This reel should do the job. I reckon match it up with a Silstar Crystal Blue Powertip of some sort. Wouldn't go lighter than 15-20kg on the rod though. Cheers, Tom
  23. Went out a few years back and got a few bream on SP. There are certainly a few there! Nice bass kicking around too further up
  24. Bad luck mate. If your just starting out the best advice i can give you is to grab a bag of pillies, some ganged hooks and find a nice gutter (high tide is preferable). This should get you a few salmon, tailor and flathead at least. Keep at it! Cheers, Tom
