  1. PA 12 mate Been waiting a while but looks like i'll be picking mine up late August! I'll be giving it a real workout over summer! Can't wait
  2. Nothing to say it wasn't a jew but i'd be tipping it for a big croc. The big ones give a decent fight and test out your gear well and truly! Definitely head back with some livies as i'm sure there'd be jews there too.
  3. Good to hear! Only a month til my yak arrives! Have you had any problems with sharks ever?
  4. Great work mate! Looks like a hobie yak you got there. Which model? Finally ordered my Pro Angler! Can't wait for it!
  5. Zman 6" for bigger flathead and Keitech 4.8" for standard size. Jerk shads and squidgies will do the job too!
  6. Great spot to flick some lures for bream upstream. There are also a few deeper holes that hold good jew at times. Flathead are plentiful upstream too. One thing i will say is be careful upstream as there are a fair few bull sharks during summer. Most are just juveniles but bigger ones hang around from time to time. Used to see them chasing mullet when fishing SP from the bank. Having said this, i've purchased a Pro Angler Kayak recently and will still fish there... Bring on summer!
  7. Sounds like a great trip even though the hairtail didn't play along.. Not a bad first on SP either! Cheers, Tom
  8. Yeah bad luck mate. Despite my recent success at roseville it certainly is a summer place. Summer you get a lot of school jew and big flathead. Sure there are a few bream and trevally during winter but i'm going o ease off it for a while and wait for the warmer water. The odd school of kings and bonito should come down in summer too!
  9. Good work mate! The most important part of kids fishing is to catch something. Seems you ticked this box very nicely! Bring on summer!
  10. If you hit it at night with a high tide around 10 then you'll be in with a shot at big jew, especially this time of year. Big Bream are also on the cards. A strip of mullet fillet is my favourite. Put in a bit of time here and it WILL pay off eventually!
  11. The fresh stuff from tackle stores
  12. You CAN use those but personally i don't. Even normal servo prawns are better. To tell you the truth i have been getting all my fish there on them! Bad luck too. High Tide/Run in is certainly preferable.
  13. Lovely fish! Haven't connected with a 90cm flattie in a few years now. They go really hard on light gear which most people don't realise. Congratulations! Cheers, Tom
  14. Mandorah Jetty is directly across the bay from darwin. You can get there fairly easily by ferry. This wharf is great for spanish macks, queenies, longtail, trevs and the odd barra under it. Livebait can be caught here and is by far the best bait for the species mentioned. Metals and poppers would go well here too! Stokes Hill wharf near the main part of darwin is good too. Queenies, macks, trevally, barra and the odd tuna here. At night the barra bite comes on! Not a darwin local but have a few mates up there that fish it a fair bit. Been there a few times too. It may be worth hiring a guide for a day and getting him to show you some productive techniques and locations. Milkfish is another option too! Go like freight rains! Cheers, Tom
  15. I just use normal scissors and basically push the scissors through the line. Sounds weird but works for me!
  16. Well done on a rare capture! Mullet don't often take lures!

    Harbour Jews?

Tailor are my FAVOURITE livebait for jewfish. Read this report of mine from a few months ago! http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=62582&view=findpost&p=438165&hl=&fromsearch=1 . Make sure the tailor are legal size though. 30cm Cheers, Tom
  18. Its worth buying one from your local tackle store and comparing what works best for you. Its always fun to fish for them with a small float, tiny hook and piece of bread while you wait for your traps to fill up! I actually catch most of mine this way! God knows why because its very frustrating... 4 hours for 16 of em.... THE THINGS WE DO FOR A JEW OR TWO!
  19. Great stuff mate! Make sure it finds its way to someone who really needs it! Very kind of you! Cheers, Tom

    Harbour Jews?

It is very possible you mistook it for a large albacore or bluefin frame. There everywhere around boatramps at the moment. Especially Roseville! If it was a jew then i wouldn't be surprised though. Winter has some big jews hanging around in the harbour. Send a big bait down into the deepest hole you can find and you might get lucky!
  21. Not saying it won't work but generally i heard the containers/traps have to be fully see-through. So those blue handles could pose a problem. It may also be a little big. I'd definitely still try it out though! And yes you will get the odd herring or silver biddy in them. I got a garfish once so anythings possible!
  22. My B baitrunner has two drags. Fighting drag on top and free-spool drag on the bottom under the baitrunner switch. I usually adjust it when baitrunner is ON
  23. Unweighted baits all the way. Throw them in amongst your burley and you should have plenty of fun. Good bream and tailor are the by-catch. Prawns, squid tentacles and pilli fillets are best.
