  1. As long as you can fit around 200-300 yards of braid on the reel, putting on any of the 20/25/30 lb would work fine with the setup as the braid breaking capacity is alot higher than its stated but usually alot of people are putting higer braid strengths not due to the pulling power but just that extra abrasion resistance with a thicker line.
  2. I agree the silstar crystal blue rods are very light rods and just for the balance of the rod a lighter reel with good drag is more than sufficent as the rod will not be able to take advantage of the heavier reels with 12KG + drags you most likely will only use half there power.
  3. Hi Mate I have the same rod, and matched it to a Daiwa Heartland 3000, this reel 8kg drag better than the daiwa sol. I know there expensive reels 340 but i picked up mine from ray and annes for $200 not sure if there still around. but the lightest combo ever the reel suits perect. I caught a 75cm kingfish on it with ease.
  4. Hi All Iam in process on buying a Shimano reel with the best i can afford at moment and its came down to a shimano biomaster SW 6000 or the Shimano Sustain 6000 FG there the same price and the Sustain had more features on the shimano website but anyone know what the real difference is.
  5. Thats some nice squid. Your brave if you headed out today with this weather, great catch and you still got a feed. its good to see there is still large fish around and some tailor as well.
  6. Nice catch of trevs, there good eating baked. How was the wind there today, tomorrow by the forcasts is very windy good you got out today.
  7. dhype Your one lucky guy today on both the nice kingfish and that boat didnt hit a car.
  8. What a day it would of been, very sorry to hear on the tackle lost. I hate the feeling but on a positive note you know the location of those fish you found on the sounder can give it a better try next time.
  9. You can get them in winter, they will be fewer but if caught are usually larger
  10. check with the local tackle stores when they get a supply but they dont last long there. There not too bad fighting but it was a small one, looking at the rod when the boy was reeling it in thought it was a travally. I do at times buy it fresh from bait shop and it works real well and it is expensive but saying that i have caught plenty of kings on the calafornia squid which works real well and my PB salmon of 80 cm and PB Jewfish of 65cm went to calafornia squid. But my PB King went on fresh squid caught earlier so its hard call and i have more confidence on the fresh squid. I also use the barter system with friends swap fish for fresh squid which works out for all but in your case it wont work you do both otherwise i would of did a barter with you.
  11. Well done guys there excellent size kings, done well to get them out before being busted off if you were close to structure. I even went on a christmas day thinking the workers will be off that day but ended up being booted by port security.
  12. Your right last night i searched it up was gonna post today, The cobia is more of a browner colour and doesent have the suction cup on its head, The one caught had a suction cup on its head and it was a black colour so it was a Remora. I hope it finds a shark or ray to hang on to.
  13. I had some fresh squid with me but only 2, so it didnt last went to pickers and that cobia, I need to start catching my own squid i know where they are in the bay caught some before landbased and i have access to them by boat now but i just need to put the effort in. Ive been only relying on fresh squid lately.
  14. Was at stanwell park beach 2 weeks ago during the week, Caught 2 x salmon and saw other guys there pulling out salmon, and as mentioned earlier so many undersize flathead there bloody tiny. The day i was there was no strong current and the sinker was holding. Previous trip there i couldnt hold same issue you had.
  15. Headed out to botany today, Very nice conditions I expected it to be more windier. I took my boy with me today, it was a great day especially for him he got very lucky and got a lot of the action. The plan was so he doesn’t get bored ill use light tackle for him and he can catch us all the live bait. He ended up with the highest number of fish instead with around 20 undersize snapper, numerous travally and bream and also what I really wanted live yakkas. Also he caught a small cobia nice looking fish, doesn't that size usually hang around sharks. Beside the usually fish we kept for a feed there was no salmon/kings around, has anyone had any luck catching kings inside the bay this week or today. Had 3 live yakkas out and they were all killed by small octopus as I got the octopuses to the surface I shake them off, there is plenty around are they any good kingfish bait?
  16. Thanks mate , really appreciate the information, will attempt later today.
  17. Correct sorry i meant the software update i have yet to do, the firmare updates are usually more for hardware fixes. The problem with mine a couple weeks back was fishing near the bommie in botany bay not too close offcourse and all of a sudden from behind the boat i see all these bubbles coming from the bottom of the water i was thinking whale many bubbles then i rembered there is divers downthere sometimes was worried to accidently hook one they or one was down under the boat for a while i quickly looked at the sounder and it was empty supprosed nothing came up even at times catching kings before a hookup its completley empty. but at other times the sounder is full of fish, its annoying but hopefully the update fixes some of the issues.
  18. Mate, Ive got the same sounder and get the same on the sounder cant tell or read what kind of fish they are. Im about to do a firmware update of the lawrance site 192mb update, so fixes alot of things.
  19. Will never get sick of these reports, those are awesome fish you have there. If would of been quite an effort controlling the boat and handling those beasts at the same time.
  20. We had another boat with us today so i shared the fish, i gave them the snappers and kept the luminescent bacteria infected travelly i wish i kept the snapper now. they were only 31-32 cms not too big. I did take phots at the boat ramp of the travally after being cleaned but not the glow part earlier on as my hands were dirty i wish i took a photo. Do you think its safe if a fish has eaten something with the luminescent bacteria. Iam worried about eating the one with the luminescent bacteria which i marked, i might keep that one for berley or bait next time as now iam worried i was gonna make it tomorrow arvo baked with the rest. thats a possibilty or even a glow in the dark donut with blue topping, I checked on google they actually make glow in the dark donuts.
  21. There great rigs, only issue i find when buying is that they come on very thick leader which offcourse for the reefs and deeper waters are fine but in using in shallow water i cut the snatchers off the line they come with and re-tie them on my own bottom rig with flurocarbon line. works well for me.
  22. Headed to Botany this arvo, water degrees was 21. At the boat ramp saw a large school of bream which was a good sign. Hit the usuall spots armed with fresh squid / Plastics/ Pillies. The water clarity was real good i can see my baits way down and there was very weak current. Usually every time the water clarity is that good the fish are very shy, but we kept trying but no kingfish taking any of the offerings, so i decieded to try unweighted baits and soon saw some large salmon come thought the berley and grab my hook, i was on fighting for around a couple of seconds and had the hook pullled out and that was my last chance at a larger fish i had today, but its real fun watching a large fish grabbing your bait. No more luck on the bigger fish it was close to sunset so decieded to give up on the kings and switched to very light tackle and within the last 30 mins before sunset I caught 4 x travally which were good size largest going 47cm. caught 3 legal snapper and many undersize snapper. I should of forgot about the kings earlier and focused on lighter tackle for the other fish available but its hard decision to make as the king is my favorite fish to catch. Just after dark and its time to go home i usually clean the fish on the boat so i dont get complaints at home i was on my last travally and when i cut its stomach to empty it it was glowing no joke it was like blue fluro light coming out of it, with closer inspection i put my hand in and it was like blue slimy liquid that glows so bright blue in the dark even when i was thowing the guts in the water it was glowing on top of the water real cool stuff. Would anyone have an idea what this could be.
  23. HI Mate, Was out today It was 21 degrees, the water clarity was the best ive seen in ages very clean i can see my baits way down.
  24. It is a good fishing spot just hard to fish on your own as you need to use both hands to go down safely, I usually go with cuzin there so its okay but once after work i went solo and holding things with both hands i was stuffed went down half way and i said to myself get back up fast as i had a gut feeling i would of fell in quickly went back up but defintley still another decent place gone i have given up on land based for this reason. I dont understand whats so hard with all sydney waters for the councils to erect some wharfs that go out out around 50 metres to give us more opturnity for fishing. When i use to live in QLD i use to fish of a wharf past sea world that goes out in the ocean more than 1km it gave hundred of anglers an opurtunity to fish. Also I go fishing with the family to forsters - tuncurry for the reason there is so many land based spots for the kids to enjoy even in holiday season.
  25. 2lb Gladiato r Braid sienna 1000 reel pioneer 4feet 2-4kg rod 60cm kingfish but i was using a 12lb leader. 2LB Gladiato r Braid, 6lb mono caught 65 cm travelly 10 min fight at tuncurry.
