  1. Yes it was bad last week. I haven't been back since last week. But even the fishing lines were all brown after fishing at Moulinex point. Smell was bad as well at ramp.
  2. It has been more quiet than same time last year. I had 2 x sessions outside Sydney heads and the wedding cake. Been very quiet compared to last year. Not sure if this strange weather has something to do with it.
  3. Does anyone know if the Biomster SW series are sealed like the saragosa SW, Spheros SW, Twinpower SW 2015. ?
  4. That's an awesome catch. What a beast and catching that on spinning gear makes it more amazing. It;s going to be hard to go back to catching kings after this.
  5. Awesome Kings + Flatties, Hopefully the weather gets better shortly. Larger Kings around the corner, they have been coming in late compared to other years. I went out on Sunday, using live slimy Mackerel, had huge ones on waiting for that monster king I would get mini runs and would find them chopped in half, kept being persistent and changed hook configuration they ended up catching some large tailor.
  6. Well done mate, Awesome looking filets.
  7. Been using FC rock sunline for years. Does the job awesome. never had any issues.
  8. Nice fish, was there at botany today as well. Caught a kingie around 6pm and lost a larger one due to pulled hook minutes after. Its good the larger ones are arriving in bigger numbers.
  9. Thanks mate, can't wait for the kings, I saw some big archers on the sounder near Molineux Point, didn't have right bait for them and was windy, will be trying next week. Nice work on the flatties. Love the Quintrex
  10. Ended up getting a quintrex 560 quinine classic, needed the extra room for the kids. I will be in the bay more often, See you guys on the water. Nice work on the Dollies.
  11. Definitely a replay of 2009. I was in 6m depth. I was surprised as they were not shy at all, I was using light gear, but a friend was using 30lb trace and still catching them. Usually not the case.
  12. Its amazing how fast there stomach acid works.
  13. Haven't done any boat fishing in months, Went to the bay Monday and Tuesday arvo with the new boat. Hit the Kurnell side of fishing due to being some wind on both days. I was surprised to see the amount of slimy mackerel in the bay, a school of them was around the boat and they were as much pest as the large yellowtails bait around. Within the school of mackerel there must of been massive school of trevally as on both days pulled out as much as 60 between the four of us. kept only a few 40cm + for a feed, the rest went back in. plus 1 x 40cm snapper by catch. Just before sunset, I gave my 4 year old daughter the rod which I'm sure had a trevally on it, about half way up it the rod buckled further and I took the rod as it got a heavy load on it. As soon as I look in the water I see the biggest flathead hooked and it would of definitely been a PB I am assuming it would of been around 90cm+, As soon as the flathead came to the surface it raced off peeling a lot of line. was fighting it for a while and then suddenly my line goes heavy and no more headshakes. Bringing up the line I had some dead weight I find a trevally on the hook and no flathead, upon inspection the trevally was dead. This flathead grabbed the trevally on the way up and it was 30cm. Amazing to see a flathead attack such a large bait and swallow it whole. Enough of trevally my next targets will be the kingfish with the water on both days being 24.7 degrees, looks like will be a top year so far.
  14. I caught one in the Bay last year, also caught on fresh squid and change of tide. They are rarely caught in the bay and more commonly found south. But you right about strong pulling power, There easily mistaken for kingfish with the first couple of runs.
  15. These are some of the main differences Sustain Ci4 rotor on the Sustain FG- Kickstand on some models of the FG. 5000 models down. High Gear Ratio. 1 x extra bearing BioMaster FB Spare Spool, E.I Anti-Corrosion treatment, similar to the stella FE. Lower Gear Ratio. I'm not sure about the advantages of the CI4 rotor for lightness on the sustain as all reel models 5000 and below weight the same as the Biomaster, so your not really getting any benefit on weight. But on strength not sure as Biomaster uses the XT7 rotor which is very strong, stronger than the old sustains/Stradic. So it wont give you trouble. But the difference on weight on the 6000-10000 model sustain is very noticeable. It really comes down to the gear ratio and what kind of fishing you need, If you using lures, spinning metals most likely the sustain but bait fishing / bottom bashing, might as well go for the Biomaster as you get that extra torque when reeling in heavy sinkers. Also the extra spool is helpful on the Biomaster.
  16. I have been on couple of trips since and have now tried live bait hooks and larger circle hooks. I have noticed that the Live bait hooks are working better and have landed some decent salmon between 60-70cm and even my pulled hook percentage was so much lower. The advantage of the circle hooks is that the leader is most of the time out of the fish mouth as mostly hooked in the jaw and can save you losing fish especially on tailor and the rough sand paper type mouths of kingfish and salmon with tight drag. But main issue is that the fish tend to go so much harder on the fight since there not as much pain with hook not injuring the fish but this also gives it more room to keep fighting and more pressure required to catch and since you can end up losing fish with hook tearing out. With the Live bait hooks which I will mostly be using from now on, I have noticed if hooked inside of the fish mouth sometimes way down the fish fight is a lot less when you are using heavy tackle and they lose stamina so much quicker as I have been bringing them to the surface half the time as previous. Still though majority of my fishing that is not on the rocks where I can use drag to tire fish the circle hook is amazing and my majority of fishing will be using circles.
  17. $240 shipped. Best value reel I believe for the rocks/beach and long casting. I see no reason why I cant use it off boat as well.
  18. That's some good gear and those kings still have the power to get away sometimes is amazing. I might aim for the 9ft to 10ft for live baiting and ballooning have purchased the reel already so might go in the shops to try on a couple of rods to see the balance.
  19. Will be trying larger hooks for my next session and some mono leader , appreciate everyone feedback very helpful.
  20. I am Live baiting, what's happening is that I loosen the drag like a bait runner, completely loose so to give time for fish to swallow fish and run off, the smart buggers instead of going out wide, they run towards the rocks automatically this is when I tighten the drag full, the fish is directly under me and one on one fight and pulling the hooks is happening when the fight is directly under me before even getting it to the surface can see the fish running left and right with the 2-3 metres of line left in water. I think I definitely should try giving more time for the fish to swallow the bait before starting the fight and give the Live bait hooks a go. Which Hooks to use Circle Live bait hooks or Standard Live bait hooks. Also Would changing the braid to Mono to give some stretch help or would I start losing more fish due to stretch.
  21. As being fairly new to rock fishing, I have been losing on average 50% of my Kingfish on pulled hooks, in the beginning I was being busted off using lighter tackle and leader but after upgrading the leader this has been sorted, My setup is braid and heavy flurocarbon leader, which I know has no stretch. I use size 5 Gamu Circle hooks or size 5 Gamu octopus J hooks for the bait I am using and this never gave me any Issues of the boat which offcourse you can adjust the drag ,so not as much pressure on the fish. The location I am fishing has rock ledges and structure so I don't have the luxury of giving the fish some drag at all and I know this is the main cause of the pulled hooks. But was hoping for some opinions to make that percentage lower. I had 3 hook-ups today and 3 x pulled hooks its starting to get annoying.
  22. I just purchased my self a second reel for beach and rocks. I was after a reel that was in the 600 gram area similar to the 4500 Daiwa or 8000 Shimano. The reel is called a Shimano Ultegra 14000 XSC. This is same model currently in Australia which ends in XTC but instead of being greenish colour it is Silver. The good thing about the reel is that its only 630 grams, 20kg Drag, X Ship, Awesome torque being lower gear but with the large spool has a retrieve of 105cm which is good for spinning metals, Lures. Also comes with a spare spool 10000 size if you don't need all that line capacity. All I can say is that after getting close to 100m long cast I'am very happy with it.
  23. That rod looks awesome, first time I hear of those rods but that rod only weighs 340 gram, thats dam light and can use all day. Defintley will check that one out. I know what you mean about using the 8ft - 9ft rods only issue today I was out on the rocks and my second setup iam using until I get the next setup sorted was a 8ft rod. I lost 3 kingfish under the rock ledge infront of me, as with the bend in the rod makes so short. Its a hard choice now you still got me thinking about the 9ft one still.
