  1. Cobba land based is very hard but offcourse still places to catch. I know of Balmoral wharf / cliffton garden, but it is very crowded to fish ive seen kings crusing by there. But if you look around google maps find some nice ledges around those areas will need to do walking, as Nick mentioned bait wise Yakkas/Squid but put a live yakka under a float with the smallest yakka you can get a very high chance. The tackle you have will be strong enough to handle.
  2. Love the video, gave me a laugh good work. were running out of time before the kings leave the bay with this cold weather we need to make the most of it by around end of May. Have you guys had any luck outside the bay in winter
  3. Top Snapper, thats a beast in these areas well done Did you catch it near bass point
  4. Guys that is consistancy well done again, cant wait to give the bay a try in the morning.
  5. Well done, Holy S??t thats big. Forget NZ fishing if you can catch this beauty here.
  6. Daniel, Perfect Snapper, I went out deep sea trying to catch that size and they are right in the bay
  7. Now that’s a botany king, well done mate. You hit the jackpot on the fish finder everything was underneath. what model is that lowrance if you don’t mind me asking. I couldnt make it today as was family day. but will be fishing the bay during the week if the weather holds.
  8. That fish reminded me of an episode of river monsters I wouldnt want to be in the water with even the small one.
  9. Well done guys, especially on those nice snappers there definitely good size in the bay. Not only have the kings got bigger even the snapper which is good news. Too bad on the way that got away if there was head shakes could have been a larger king. Last year me and my cousin were fishing bare island / Brown rock side land based and we managed to hook the largest trevally I have seen in the bay, it would have been around 70-80 cm we were so close to getting it out of the water and the braid rubbed on the rock and saw it swim away. The bay definitely has supprises. Next time on the one that got away guys.
  10. Cool Video and excellent Camera footage, really like the fishing techniques used. You guys know your stuff in the bay.
  11. I got 3 hrs sleep Sunday morning was up early we decided to bottom bash at the reefs out sydney heads in around 62 metres of water we caught a mixed bag of travally, snapper, mowies, and a couple of rat kings. There was some strong current at times and man its hard bottom bashing in deep water expecially when we had to upgrade to heavier sinkers lack of sleep is not a good combinaton with deep water fishing. Does anyone know what this fish is called ive also caught them in the bay at watson reef.
  12. Nice set of Kings guys. What a beautiful day it looked like on the bay. I should of went to the bay today, ended up in sydney heads.
  13. Nice King, good to see these big sized kings around the bay. They started late this year but getting bigger every year.
  14. Yeah that was him, the guy's boat wouldnt come of the trailer in the low tide, it was a thinner style boat and its back would not touch the water even slaming the break near the end it wouldnt come of for him. not sure if he ended up in the end in the water.
  15. Thanks All guys They were caught on squid
  16. Hit Botany Bay on a boat trip with my old man at 9:30 am. After anchoring the boat i realised we were drifiting slowy so i went out to take out the anchor and reposition the boat within seconds before attempting in doing that my old mans gets a nice run and after a good fight he gets his PB king of 80cm. I quicky position the boat with a heavier anchor and within 10 mins my rod bends over and i couldnt get it out of the rod holder within a min of fighting it my leader didnt hold. Upgraded to heavier leader and within 20 mins i get another chance but this didnt seem like a big king though it was a rat or salmon within a minute i realise i was wrong as it goes crazy and was giving my shimano 4000 symetre a hard time i thought i was gonna loose it and then all of a sudden this fish stoped fighting im thinking thank god it got tired and im realing it had no more runs or headshakes after a couple of mins got it to the boat and i realised it had my leader wrapped around its tail and it basicly tied it self up and the reason it could no longer run using its tail thank god for that as i would of lost it turned out to be 90cm my PB as well and was happy to get that in the bay.
  17. No kids, just me and the old man i was at molly but close to the wall about 80 meters back from where the martime was checking a boat. I ended up with my PB king of 90cm and my old man 80cm and nothing else. we caught them near the drums side though at around 10am. I have the photos which ill do a report with them
  18. I was out yesterday and saw maritime circling around the anchored boats I must be close to where you were at that time, I was in a quintrex 475 freedom. I had some good luck on kings yesterday which i might post a report. Beside the kings and salmon it was dead. Do you think the full moon had something to do with it.
  19. Running sinker on swivel around meter trace. Also use paternoster rig which i was using yesterday on heavy setup
  20. Formosan, I believe your right in saying that because only the 20lb setup ive ever caught fish, the only time on my heavy setup that i believe i was hooked on a king was when i was pulling the line up to see if the bait is still on through the guides with my hand, after the hand movement of the line within seconds got a run, so they must of been sitting right near the bait but didnt strike until there was a movement.
  21. Went to the bay yesterday arvo. was only there for 3-4 hrs, dam daylight savings robbed me of an extra 1hr of fishing through daylight couldnt start earlier. As standard i always take fresh squid, i really need to start catching some I ended up with no legal fish to take home for the first time in a while but still saw some exciting things. I caught 2 rat kings which were released and many undersize snappers. I had a heavy setup with large squid strips under the boat which was untouched and the other rod just beside it which iam using as a light setup goes off this fish was unstoppable it was 1 min after i caught the the other 2 rats so i knew there was a school of kings underneath but too many things was rushing through my head do i tighten the drag or leave it to tire it self. I let it take about 50 meters of line and decided its too much line and i might be reefed so i tighten the drag even more and the line snapped. I should of taken the chance of letting it tire itself instead of nearly locking the drag. Ahh well you cant always win but its good to see there is some large ones around and spewing that probably a meter or 2 away i had my heavy setup dangling long stips but it decided to take my 3 cm strip im starting to wonder if the kingfish a weary of large hooks and leader unless its live. I also bought my self the daiwa bay rubber jigs was gonna throw one out and leave it in the front rod holder and let the boat do the work for me while i fish with bait in the back. I gave it a try yesterday and caught a small 50cm shark with whispers some cat shark or something threw straight back. Will try the jig a couple times more to see if they work in the bay maybe need to be outside. The fun part was i only caught one yakka on my bream gear which i put out of the boat. I saw my rod tip go up and down up and down but no runs so i waited for a couple of secs more but can feel the pressure of something on the rod i thought it might be a crab so as i was lifting it up with the heavy weight what i saw was the largest live squid i have ever seen this was around 80cms in lenght it was huge i ran to get the net and it just released the yakka and swam off. there is some crazy things i see in botany but all makes fishing fun maybe lucky i didnt catch it as it would of covered me in ink
  22. Congrats mate I believe its a fishraider record for the longest fight
  23. Thanks for the replies, I didnt take a photo of it as it was dark on the boat after bleeding it and reading about it, and my old iphone has no flash I bought a digital camera cheapie one to keep on the boat from now on, when i got home was gonna take a photo in the light but it didnt look to appealing looked like a eel, there so skinny and had so much parts missing with all the cutting
  24. Went to Botany bay today after lunch, water temp was 21 degrees and water very clean. I was armed with pillies, fresh squid and soft plastics. Also a new rod and reel to try Wilson texalium and okuma v system. So was hoping to catch something large to test it on . kept moving around for hrs with no luck junder size snapper, was started to get frustrated but my luck turned just before sunset within 1 and half hr session caught 3 x salmon , travelly and tailor. The were all good size and i was glad to see the tailor back in the bay they were around the 50cms and lost 2 other big ones on the surface toothy buggers. Just before dark i had some squid out and within a couple of mins my rod bends over and had a huge run and line was stripping off, im thinking this has to be a king fish because earlier on caught some shovel nose sharks and could tell this was not one of them too strong for them because they are not as fast. after a couple minute fight it turned out to be a gummy shark which meter in lenght. I bled it and while i was on boat i jumped on phone and read forums on how to prepare not the best times to read with greasy bloody hands but i read you need to cut the head, fins , tail straight away which lucky i did. Ifilleted it when i got home and will be trying it tomorrow with the family and friends released all other fish except 2 x tailor.
  25. We need to factor in that braid most of the times breaks more that double its rated, ive caught rat kings on 2lb playpus braid, but i use 20lb leader, if there is no structure or reef around otherwise off course no match. Just let them get tired they eventually come to the boat. Be aware though that the 2lb braid breaks around 10 pound. The problem i find using heavy braid is that i dont think i will use its full potental as the rod will break way before.
