  1. Your right about abuse, my current setup expecially the rod where I put it in holes and cracks in the rocks is pretty bad. I will check out the Ugly stick range.
  2. I gotta borrow an overhead reel and practice using, I have never used before. But they do seem the go on bigger fish.
  3. Iam in process of buying another spin rod for rock fishing. I have a current setup of a Fin Nor 10ft 10-15kg with Spheros 8000 reel 50lb braid, which has been so far real good, the last couple of months I have caught many kings around 65-75cm with ease, even lifting up from rocks. But not sure what setup I need for 1m+ kings. Would another setup like i have current be ideal or should I go heavier like 20kg rod, larger size reel. I did notice with my current setup not as much drag used as the rod does most of the work. Any sugestions on Rods. Only after 10ft at moment. Only rod so far which looks good is the Nitro Rockstar but its $400 was seeing if any cheaper option, which will do the same job.
  4. I had a Okuma V system which did the same but that turned out to be my fault as i put too much grease when the handle screws in the body, which can cause this issue, had it cleaned at the tackle store which fixed the problem. But if no extra grease has gone in that area its a shame to happen to a reel with limited use.
  5. Nice Squid, I hope we hear more king reports in the next couple of weeks, this year has been extremley slow on the kings, not sure why they are not in mass or on the bite as much. Your right about those jackets i was fishing sydney harbour a couple of days ago and had the usual small snapper bites and as sometimes they eat and sit there and notice them on the line when reeling to check the bait. I had 4 small snapper came up dead, with no eyes and pieces missing of them.
  6. Thanks Roberta your right about it getting busy, on friday before I left I couldnt even find parking anymore . It is the best back yard to have Stunning place. You might be right about the fish that was doing Zig Zags because I have never seen a fish so fast it was like teleporting from one place to another . I would love to catch one, but i think it will be no match on light tackle. Even you catching a samoson fish is amazing in the shallows. Keep us updated on the fish catches in the future. Cheers.
  7. It is a hard one Tom, your right it could be a different kind of species but definitely not the normal silver trevally i catch in sydney as this did have all the gold fins, tail, and it did have blubbery lips abit as well. but no big black spot.
  8. Thanks Mate And well done yourself on the kingfish and Large bonito
  9. Forster Tuncurry report Spent this week up at Forster / Tuncurry As always a very amazing place would love to live here, also a great fishing spot as well. This week was not the best fishing as previous years but still some good moments. With 6 days fishing spent allot of time with the kids fishing. Usually see very large bream in the water along all the wharfs and jetties but this week just standard size bream nearly everywhere. Not sure where all the big ones are hiding. But there is some very large mullet and luderick in the waters very fussy don't know how you can even tempt one. Ended up with many bream/flathead. Had a good fight on light tackle on a golden trevally which I managed to catch as I had the chance to run around the island to recover some line as I was about to get spooled. He went close to 50cm, very large and the photo attached doesn't give it justice. I had a second chance on an even larger one because I saw it doing zig zags in the water at amazing speeds I was no match as he got to run around some weeds and busted me off. It was amazing to see such big fish in shallow water and was surprised that his even inside the lake. This is Forster which always has surprises. Couple of years ago I actually caught a queen fish inside the lake. Around the seafood wharf I threw out a live just under the wharf, was not expecting much except maybe a large flathead, within 20 minutes I had a massive run I couldn't even hold the rod when I saw something come up to the surface and it was an eagle ray. This thing was massive and unstoppable probably one of the strongest fish I have encountered and quick compared to standard stingrays. But hr managed to pull the hook. I'm glad I got to see it at least so I don't have to think what got away. I had 3 other bust offs around the wharfs due to being allot of pylons around Forster and having short rod doesn't help. Also tried some beach fishing near the large sand dune which was fun I wish I did more beach fishing ended up with a salmon, bream, dart fish, flathead. I never get to fish the break wall near the opening due to spending most of the time with the kids but would love to try it next time for the large jewfish.
  10. This is the time of the year ive been waiting. Well done on the fish. your giving me motivation to start going out to the bay.
  11. Nice fish for limited amount of time on the water, you do very well with lures.
  12. Awesome fish guys, well done. Your very lucky you weren't anchored, as with the reel you were using you wouldnt of had much line capacity with 35lb mono, you might of got spooled. Good sign ahead with the kingfish.

    New Reel

Sustain FG has a higher gear ratio than the Biomaster FB. Both have Xship so the biomaster might be better for bottom bashing / slower types of fishing etc. Very similar how they have the stradic CI4 and Rarenium CI4 same reels different ratio's and the Rarenium comes with the extra spool.
  14. What rod will you be using it on, what its kg rating.
  15. I haven’t been on a boat for the last month, and got my chance yesterday with limited time didn’t have the chance to go to my Bellambi trip yet. IT was a perfect middle of winter day but arrived on the water at 1pm and had to leave 4pm so with limited time we just anchored the boat and no moving was done to save time. I didn’t have any fresh bait, just took chicken breast and pilles, really wanted to further improve my soft plastics as well but not the time. My main target was a humble large snapper with a hump on his head. We ended up catching many species and not even a single legal snapper most were just undersize. Managed 3 undersize kingfish, some large toadfish it’s spiked me in the hand man its sharp but I survived I was thinking it must be poisonous and my hand was going to go numb but nothing happened. Water temperature out the head was around 17.5 inside was 15.9 so alot warmer. We left 4 on the dot to make it for friend’s wedding, but I might on missed my chance for a larger fish as it was probably been the best last 1 and half hrs before dark and they were starting to bite instantly.
  16. Its good you managed to go out today with these nice winter conditions and got a feed. Do you get alot of snags while driting? Im always get snagged as why I prefer to anchor more.
  17. Nice batch of fish, With all the amount of boats targeting these fish you done pretty well.
  18. Congrats on the monster, That reel looks tiny compared to that fish, what size model was the sargosa and how long did it take you to land ?
  19. Nice catch and expecially on light tackle, its hard enough on boat with light tackle but landbased top effort.
  20. I ended up buying a Stella sw i couldnt take it, i knew ill keep thinking about it had to get it out of my system. But the sustain is a top reel i was playing around in the shop with it so smooth would of been my next option.
  21. If your jigging in very deep water and very heavy jigs say 150-200 grams plus, the Saragosa will be a better bet only because with the higher gear ratio you will start to feel the difference, i was fishing off a cliff yesterday with a lower gear ratio reel and i caught a eel i was lifting it up around 50 meters up i didnt even feel it on the rod the reel was doing alot of nice work for me. But ive fished the same cliff with a higher gear ratio and i can feel the extra pressure on the gears with the same size fish. But having said that for jigging i only use around 80-100 grams small jig i still use my higer gear ratio reel as i only mini jig in around 50-60 meters of water and it does the job fine.
  22. I was wondering if any body can shed light on the boat ramp at rosebay if it is open at the moment.
  23. Mate you sure learn quick on catching these beasts nice catch and jewfish as well.. How do they fight when hooked.
  24. Well done on the good fish guys, there is good fish outside just needs the courage to head out in this weather.
  25. Nice snapper. Are boats allowed to get close to those docked ships ? How far were you guys. I believe the cold air breeze contributes to the sea sickness, for me anyways in summer never affects me no matter how big the swell is.
