  1. Hit up the goon in the yaks this morning. Met down at deep creek reserve at 4:30 with 2 others to throw them in. Paddled out to a ripper sunrise, fluffy white clouds and just the right temp. Water was a good 20-22 deg (guessing only) and a little murky from the rain. The attack plan, flatties!!! Armed with a pouch of trusted SP's, we paddled up towards the rowing club to hit the banks around to the point on the east side. First hook up went to the brother at about 530, but busted the 6lb leader!! Damn finesse fishing! Not long after, he hooked up again, this time a nice 51 cm flattie in the net! An early morning celebratory jb and coke and a dart, and back into it. Third crack at about 7am, another buet fish at 52 cm. Although only a tiny bit bigger, alot more weight in it with a big head. Went a bit slow after that but heaps of bream to 25cm in between on prawns. About 8 am, just after the tide turn, another hook up, this time a stonker flattie, all the way to the yak, and paddling like mad to get to him with the net, spat the hook to see it gently swim away with a smirk on it's face. Sometimes you could swear they are just having you on. Did ok with a few more hits but nothing else landed. Headed in at 1030 to go home for a beer and a feed. Happy with the session, and good to see some quality fish, rather than being raided by little suckers. No pics sorry, the minister won't let me take the camera on the yak, but I will be eating well tonight!
  2. I'm hitting it up on Saturday. What's the water like? Is the mouth open again?
  3. Get it in to a good mechanic, could be thousands of things. I did have an old blue band merc that did this, thought it was timing, turned out to be corroded exhaust plates and water was getting in the cylinder.
  4. Come on mate, I've got a 4.5m boat and I think it's a good size, now I have a complex knowing a 5.5m is little!!! And besides, size doesn't matter, does it.....? I've been in a couple of bigger cats, 30-40 foot, and great. I've raced a smaller 20 foot in from a few clicks out and didn't seem to have much on me, bogged in just as much and did it just as tough. I am well over powered but so that might have something to do with it.
  5. Top stuff!! I've been getting them at Richmond on cicadas and wow! What a smash that is. For a small fish they have a great fight and the way they launch at the surface lures is unreal!! Swordy you can bum a yak off me if you like, I've got a couple and only 15 min away from the nepean. Might even come down for a slog too! As long as someone can show me around a bit, I'm a novice on the nepean.
  6. I get them on half a small peeled prawn, but the bigger ones seem to be fussy and generally shy away. I know people get them on HB lures and plastics too, but again it wouldn't be very consistent.
  7. Yep, he will be alot happier, and so will the motor with that choice.
  8. In pittwater, anywhere sandy with ledges etc will get flathead. In amongst the moored boats for flathead bream and the odd soapy. Sometimes rat kings around the moored boats too.
  9. I've got a 90hp on my 15 foot stebercraft. It is a heavy boat but I wouldn't go lower than a 70 on it. What make is the boat?
  10. Thanks for that. I have often wondered but didn't know why. Unfortunate for me, I can only choose my dinner at the fish shop at the moment. I'm hard up for time to get out lately.
  11. Hey, can I ask, as I am a novice blackfisho, why do people keep everything they bring up, and release them when finished the session? Are they like trevs in that if you release them they will all take off? Or is it a "choice of the catch" thing?
  12. Quality is bloody good! Bass have been getting really hot at Richmond and the nepean. Think it will be a good summer. I'm planning to brain heaps. Have to say, soft shell cicadas have been unstoppable lately
  13. Yep, fush n chup em. Beer batter and some fresh cut chips are buet. Dipping sauce use mayo, a little tomato sauce, a splash of tobasco, lemon, and mix it up. You want a really light red colour. Now I'm hungry, thanks.
  14. Spot on, I've got a few there but it's not very consistent. All types of factors come into play and it's hard for them to align. Good thing about the system is Jews are everywhere and anywhere. Just need to hunt them down. Great haul of quality fish!
  15. Wack the boat in at Berowra and head down to the twin beaches (few k's down stream) Plenty of camping space and good fishing both ways up the river. Good spot for flathead straight off the twins, not far from the national park (good Jew spot) and heaps of places to throw plastics and lures. I've been raised on the hawkesbury, and it's hard to crack, but when you know the where, when and how, it's a great system to fish. Take plenty of light but, as said before me it's a dark place.
  16. Get out of my hole!!!!!!!!!! That's my (not so) secret spot! Good going getting that many Jews but, has to be a bloody record!
  17. Hi all, Heading out for Jews this week. Was wondering if anyone has used mullet from freshwater as bait? I don't know that there is a difference in species but we have been getting them at Richmond alot and am not sure.
  18. Not a bad go! So is it definitely open again?
  19. Second that! A sea anchor should slow you by around 70% from the current speed. Any slower just chuck an anchor out! I've started using a sea anchor over the past 12 months and been perfect. I wouldn't want any slower or faster.
  20. Been a while between drinks, so it's a combined report. Hitting the freshwater alot over the past few weeks, and done ok. Started at Richmond with the yak. Dropped in at about 5pm and first cast "snap" (bass fishoes know the sound) good catch at about 25 cm Similar story for the evening, plenty of bass but the weed is really thick, so it's probably the last time I'll hit Richmond up. 2 days later the brother (who seems to be getting all the big fish lately) smacks a 41cm bass in the same damn spot!!! Bugger me if I've been outdone again! All catch and release and taken on soft shell cicadas. Good news is the bass are really on, getting some good size, and are really not that far away for a quick flick. Get out there, throw some poppers, and grab some of the best sport fish around.
  21. Thanks gents, she was an awesome site to see! Ended up feeding 4 adults and 6 kids with some left over. This thing was the size of a truck tyre!! And, just so you know, one of the best eating species I've ever had!!
  22. Well me and a good friend have been meaning to catch up for a long time, and today decided to do so over a few beers and to chase the elusive round boxed fish. The evening started ok with a beer or two and both our wives feeding nibbles to us while we sat patiently waiting for the strike. Got to around 7pm before we decided to change tactics. With phone in hand Nate decided to sneak up on his prey. Reading out firmly his credit card number whilst slowly speaking, BANG! Strike time. Nate slowly with the upmost skill wound in the biggest round boxed fish I've ever seen! Fight lasted about an hour and delivered a magical sight to both of us. Went 25 inches and a bucket load of slices. Got a good shot of it, and can't wait for our next session chasing these things!

    Sea Anchors

Best thing you will ever do, slows the drifts up, keeps your boat pointing where you want it, and easy to store. I put mine on a ski bridal out the back attached to the tow hooks, with about 2.5 mtrs of rope to the anchor. Keeps it wide of your lines and the prime fishing space clear.
  24. I put mine down, and take the battery out. That way if anyone steals it, they will rip the motor clean off going out the driveway!!
