  1. Soon to start hitting the bass up at Richmond. Good to hear they are already firing. Good stuff
  2. Hey all. A second hand report today, unfortunately! A good friend fished the north side of palm beach today. Did ok with 2 salmon, 2 flathead and a good flounder. All caught on full pilchards on gangies, and within 2 hours of the tide change, low to high. He couldn't help but rub it in, as I did decline the invite to do some work around the house. Buggered if I'll do that again! Anyways he did say a nice gutter is forming out the front and WE will be looking next week to chase some goodies again. Kept two for the BBQ tonight, all else released.
  3. Love to see the data they used! $8.50 p/w in raised costs my bum. My last elec bill will raise my cost by $5.80 p/w on it's own! And I live in a shoe box with a better energy rating than anyone I know.
  4. Also, I think for the first 2 years, the government is subsidising the Carbon Tax through personal income tax reductions, grants to pollutors and handouts in the budget. The net effect is the pollutors get to collect the tax from consumers, the government reimburses most of us (give or take), and also pays the pollutors, so the companies get to pocket the tax and use it to reduce emissions (in theory). If they don't their idiots because when the trading scheme comes in to play and government subsidies run out, their overheads will blow out and they'll become uncompetitive. So, by that, the polluters get a hand out, and the already ambitious don't? And you do point out one of many floors. They will collect handouts, and have 2 years to prepare off shore manufacturing. I know what I would be doing! I won't get any handouts, as I'm just over that threshold. I got my elec bill yesterday, and it states I made 3300kg of c02. That's about $75 for the quarter(based on 23/t) and that's only one element of my life. Add a little bit of tax to everything I do, and whamo! I'm alot worse off, dodgy operators and bankers/brokers are getting filthy rich in the name of saving the world, and we (you too!) will be funding it.
  5. Me thinks you two blokes are fishing in the wrong spot. You won't get any bites hear, just fisho's sharing some tips and yarns. Maybe facebook would be more suited to what you two need. Anyways, back on topic. That tuna tube rig you have, I've seen one with two 5or 6 inch tube about 500 mm long on the sides with straps to be like a back pack and a pump to circulate between the two. How long do you think they would last? I know they are catching well away from where they end up fishing. The reason i ask is, My live well on the boat is huge, but the fresh water pumps into the top. My little livies stay good for ages but the bigger ones (bonnies etc) loose movement pretty fast. So I'm thinking of simplifying so I'm not carrying so much water, and still keeping the bait alive.
  6. Italian resteraunts serve white bait. I Watched a bloke eating them with heads and tails and all I could think of was "Flatty Food"
  7. I watched one of the fishing shows on TVS on the island. Had the 2 guys from ifish aswell. Awesome fishing! Pulling in 2 at i time with big ballooned swim bladders hanging out! Really made me want to go! Don't forget pics and reports when you get back.
  8. Haha, funny thread, glad I found it cause me and the brother have been arguing over what these big back pack were for on a heap of rocko's we've seen. I thought they were backpackers finding caves to sleep in!
  9. I'd be a little worried about those rusty plugs too. Are you getting water in through the lid seal?
  10. Mine did it, I dropped a sea anchor out the back in the current, probably about 2-3 meters out on a ski bridal. All but eliminated it.
  11. Can't disagree Fezza, however way off topic. The point has been made, and it's hard to disagree with, profit will be the driver in investments into green concepts. My argument with a tax still is, the business is punished before it can invest and develop. It's a two pronged sword. Firstly they will have to pay the tax over the next few years, at the same time as trying to invest/develop greener ways. So the business is hit twice for nil result. Put it the other way around, if a business invests say 200k in r&d on green techs, they get a tax break of a certain percentage for that period. The loss to them would be minimized and the investment and development is made. I that scenario, the company is not put out twice, and will make a minimal loss to the point it wont need to take drastic action to protect it's profits. You know the company would invest, knowing it's margins are safe, and the possibility of moving to off shore manufacturing wouldn't come into it. They aren't being taxed. Let's face it, the government isn't going to invest any of this money into green futures, it will simply be a case of wealth distribution and foreign aid.
  12. Yeah the was a scoop up in a fishing comp, but it was after reports they were being caught already. Still introduced by some dim wit.
  13. Got a $20 note about 4 weeks ago at flint and steel! Went straight in the tackle box as my " back up $20" just in case. Got this last week on blackie gear at Narrabeen lake about 5 foot from the end of the boat ramp.
  14. There were reports of some taken in the Sydney. They believe they were introduced rather than migrated. I think someone posted the article on here somewhere? I went to a barra farm on the Sunshine coast which was some good fun. Your definitely not guaranteed to catch fish that's for sure, bloody hard actually! Only got 2 but both were thumpers. Awesome fun on light gear.
  15. I hope our money is put towards less polluting technologies and not other crap that we don't need, only time will tell. Well it won't be, we are not that silly. The break up of the wealth redistribution bugger all will be left for r&d. The government may give a small grant here and there but as usual, rorters will jump on the gravy train and leave bugger all for the real players. Here is where the biggest floor in the tax is. It punishes the company by taxing them for releasing co2. Basically giving the ok to pollute, as long as you pay. They will pollute, pay, and pass on the cost. Or, move offshore and manufacture over in china or somewhere they don't have to pay. If a business incurs a cost it passes it on. They are not accountable as they have the option to pass it on. If we cop a big bill, we can't pass it on, we have to pay. A better alternative is the carrot on the string. Rewards for green/clean business. If a company can see lowered tax, or profit increase, they are more likely to become compliant. Which will increase investment and development to green futures. This has been a proven method in transport with programs like NHVAS and fuel tax credits and a few others. A small investment in maintaining and complying with standards and targets, and the benefits are fantastic. Unfortunately the fuel tax credits have been shot to crap and lowered to a point where it's just not worth the hassle, something the green agenda really should have persisted with.
  16. This is why I dont believe this government. You don't employ a brick layer to install a stove, so why have we employed this bloke to advise government on climate change. That is Tim Flannery with no qualifications in Climate Science, he has a doctorate in Palaeontology. This is the Tim Flannery that said in 2005 that droughts could leave Sydneys Dams dry in just two years. The Tim Flannery that said that most climate skeptics were men over 65. The Professor Tim Flannery that said in 2008 “The water problem is so severe for Adelaide that it may run out of water by early 2009.†(Adelaide’s Dams are almost full) The Tim Flannery who said in 2007 that “Sydney and Brisbane, water supplies are so low they need desalinated water urgently, possibly in as little as 18 monthsâ€. No desal plant is being used anywhere, because all the three cities have too much water in their Dams. The Tim Flannery who said in 2004 that “I think there is a fair chance Perth will be the 21st century’s first ghost metropolis†. Ten years into the 21st Century, Perth is still there. The Tim Flannery who said in 2008 (three years ago) that “in five years there’ll be no Arctic ice cap“. Well the Arctic Icecap is still there, but Tim Flannery says there is only two years left. Source - Australian Climate Change Denier I'm sure he's very good at doing whatever it is he does, but really? If it is real (man made I'm not denying all climate change) I would be wanting the absolute best in Oz to be giving the advice, not an explorer, who, by following trends, has got it wrong over and over again. That trend gives a forecast of Tim being highly likely to be wrong again. Correct? And before anyone jumps on saying your only looking at the bad rarara, that's 100% correct. But they have been monumental stuff ups on the advice given to which our government acts. You do that in your workplace, you'll lose your job. He does that we get a tax! Or a desal plant!
  17. Not sure when the minority government argument came into it, but I guess that's the problem at the moment. Topics go to the dogs and the argument is left in the same place. Going nowhere. Pretty simple really, the government have defied what the people want. The kids argument is a sop story so you believe it, and the "newest" science in the world is still out. No conspiracies, no minority government argument, no greens agenda. If the scientists can't tell us what the temp will be tomorrow, why would you believe them when they tell you it's going to be hot in 100 years? The real problem in the heat of it all is, we have had lyres after lyres after lyres of government, paid government officials, and corrupt agencies. I'm not a cynic, just don't believe anything they say. "there will be no carbon tax under the government I lead" j Gillard "a carbon tax is an uneconomically way that will do nothing for the environment" (similar anyway) P Wong You can only tolerate the dribble for so long. Lies lies and more lies, than a tax. And that's good governance? If a carbon tax/ets is so good, why can't they tell us by how much it will slow warming?
  18. Without splitting hairs, this is not a tax on carbon particles the pollutant, rather carbon dioxide, the gas not listed as a pollutant. Why don't they tax the particle? Because it was brought under control years ago, and they won't have any gain, monetary or environmental. What I was going to ask is this. If I become 100% carbon dioxide neutral, meaning take out of the atmosphere the carbon dioxide I expel, i.e trees, grass, garden etc. can I claim all the carbon tax I pay back from the government? Of course not!!! Because unlike any other tax, it is teared at so many levels, it's actually impossible to avoid paying!!! I watched a good piece a while back on Australias first climate tax accountant, who by the way is set to make a bundle out of this, who explained some of what had been released. Basically he said the big end of business will be ok, the mid sizes will pay the most and the little guys will pass it on. So we the consumer will be the biggest losers. He did say mid size business will need to either, wind back expansion and aim for smaller, carbon friendly operations, or become bigger before it comes in and absorb the losses over a few years. If we take a business size class out of the spectrum, or deplete it to a point where it is unproductive for the government to support, what happens? The bigger guys come in and we have more market domination and less competitiveness. Not sure that's a good result. I'm not an economist, but really people, a tax to save the world??? Give me a break, next it will be a tax to explore mars for colonization. This is action movie stuff without any excitement.
  19. It's a sad day in human existence, they day we believe money will change nature. It's simple, we are not gods, we are not here for good nor have we been here forever. The day you believe that we can change evolution, you need to have a long hard look at the past. Ice ages stone ages species coming and going. The world isn't going to die, humans are (eventually) it's evolution and we are not exempt. No tax will stop it, no wind mill or clean energy. However like has happened over the ages, we will evolve with it, or perish. Keep in my it's only humans who are concerned about these things. Why? We are the only ones with intelligence enough to trick/brainwash each other A carbon tax or emission trading scheme eventually probably would be required however. Not to save the world as they led you to believe, but to create industry after fossil fuels. I'm against it, but long term (100 years from now) it may have a place. Lots of issues along the way but.
  20. Ahhhh thanks Fezza. Probably help if I read it correctly.
  21. Well said prates gold. I don't really agree to all of the laws, but it's got merit. I where mine all the time now and you mostly don't notice it's on. A trendy style specific for fishing would be good but I haven't seen any yet. Not that I've looked that hard. The problem as stated above is the 12 year old doesn't have to wear one, he's accompanied by an adult, but the adult does, because he's not with an adult. These hiccups will be ironed out in time, but for now, just comply and you never know, could save your life.
  22. I've just read a post by mrsswordie re: man fined in lake Macquarie for excessive lines. In the article it says a fisher can not have more than 2 rigged lines, but on the fisheries site it says 4. Not that i fish with more than one but, i always have 2 rods with me and ussually a hand line, and thought i was being legal. Can anyone clarify this?
  23. Haha no I'm not pumping for info, I'm a very novice and green blackfisherman (I landed my first today!) I'm more into canvasing my own spots for various targets, it's half of the fun!! However I have learnt more about fishing in general since joining this site than I have my whole life. When I need info, it's generally on here, you just have to look.
  24. no ts not actually its an old thing that the old boys would alway keep quiet where they got it but when its hard to get its hard to get and they will come from Yamba to that creek for a small handful when the fish are on! Theres also the issue if it does and its scarce the pros can clean a creek ou in 48 hours to sell the stuff! Seen it happen! Funny you say that, went to a tackle shop a Narrabeen and one at pennant hills to buy some weed, both told me they won't have any this year. The guy at Narrabeen said the council chlorinated the weed away with all the work that's going on there?? Not sure how true it is but we couldn't find any. The other guy just said no bait mob are doing any this year. The guy at Narrabeen wasn't happy and gave us his little rant about it so I have to think he's telling the truth. He use to collect it and sell it (I think) cause it use to be fresh in tanks. I used to laugh thinking what moron would pay for weed? Funny now I'm becoming that moron! Anyways it seems a little short of supply.
  25. Thanks Squidin. The hardest thing to believe is that the lagoon is closed off from the ocean at the moment. Apparently has been for a while too. So the little bugger must have been in there for a time. I'm told by a couple of regs I met down there that it's been dead silent there, so I was really stoked with what I got today.
