  1. Love the hawkesbury! My fav haunt. Funny with the hairtails in there at the moment. I've been fishing up there for years and never heard of them until I got on this site. Great place to fish, plenty to catch and just a good relaxing environment. Good stuff!
  2. Headed down to Narrabeen today to go for some blackies. About 30 seconds after hitting the water, first blacky landed!!! Woo hoo!! A first blackie, which makes it a PB! About 20 cms long so back he went. Rigged up again and nothing for a good 2 hours. The wind blew up a bit and the wife and kids turned up, so a bite to eat and a break was in order. After lunch I thought another crack was in order. With the wind blowing I decided to head to the ramp near the caravan park. Not very hopeful I cast out and downs came fast. All was landed were little specimen, 15cm and under, but still happy with this considering they were amongst the first I've ever caught. Thinking about calling it quits, I decided to have another throw. Got a small down so I gave a gentle lift, and it gave me a smashing back!!! Several guesses at what it was from me and a mate, from flatty, to jewie, to big tailor, and then to our shock, an Aussie Salmon!!!! Another first for the day!! Guessing as we had no measuring implements, about 60 cms and 2 to 2.5 kgs Not sure if it took my peeled half prawn, or took the fish that took my peeled half prawn, but I'm not about to split hairs. But I will say, he had pestered someone before, as I took a set of gang hooks out of his guts. Hungry little bugger. Caught on 4lb mono and a no.8 snell hook!!! So two first Evers, which I can claim as two PB's and an entry into the new (I've just created it) BY- catch of the month competition!!! I've got some pics, but don't know how to put them up. I'll work it out tonight and see if I can get them on. Cheers!
  3. Well it's a new found love, and I haven't landed any yet!! I read an awesome (and long) post by Roberta on black fish, and I must say it was the most comprehensive fishing tutorial I've ever read. Last year I went for my first blacky session with no luck. Went a few times after and nothing. So as usual when you fail a few times, you loose intrest. But now, I'm armed with a few good tips from that post, and can see everything I was doing was wrong. No wonder I failed. So thanks Roberta for getting me intrested again, it's something I think I can now persist with and hopefully catch a few. Anyone on here fish Narrabeen for blackies? Any tips you could share to help a novice out would be appreciated.
  4. Haha all but!!! She does have an un orthodox way of getting things done...
  5. Nothing worse than a cold, rainy long weekend......oh yes there is! When the damn weatherman gets it wrong!!!! Had every intention of heading out early today, but after looking at the doomy gloomy forecast through the week, decided best not too. After waking at 7 this morning, looking out at the blue sky at home, not a breath of wind. Oh damn you Tim Bailey! Not a happy fisho! So instead of taking some time out to wind down, relax and grab a feed, the minister for war and finance gave me a list of choirs, accompanied with a dead line to do today. So finally I'm done, the minister is happy, and I'm still hanging for a fish! DAMN YOU TIM BAILEY!!!

    Battery

It's something I'm always worried about is getting a flat battery..........again. I've had to row the boat quite a few ks up berowra creek to find someone to tow us home and of course it was in 40 degree heat! After that I take no risk. 720cca century for the motor, and a smaller sealed unit for the electrics. Cost about $150 in bits and peices plus the extra battery but I know I will never row home because of a BLAT FLATTERY!! And I left a switched power outlet from my main battery where I've done my handy work with the small battery just in case I need it. I get about 6 hours running the fish finder, radio and lights and added all of 5kgs to the boat. "Some tend to go over board in prevention once they get stranded, but unfortunately the time on your hands when you get stranded is when you get the best of ideas"
  7. I use penrite......for everything! I'm a motor mechanic and about two years ago I tried it in my car. Absolutely the best oil you can buy. And no I'm no longer a mechanic and have no vested interests. It simply is the best oil I've used. After that I switched to penrite in the boat(oil injected 90 merc) and haven't looked back. At the end of the day but, your motor will dictate the best oil to use. So go with what it runs best on.
  8. Anywhere!!! A great fishing spot all year round. Anywhere around the oyster leases are good for bream and flatty. Drift the sands from the bridge running in can produce good flatty. Last time I was up I must of grabbed 5 shovel nose sharks which were good fun. Tuncurry boat ramp on the run out is pretty good from land too. Little street near the boat sheds can go good from land too.
  9. Check the marine park limits too. I know 2 charter boats 4 sale now and 2 already gone down there because of it. They can't fish anywhere (profitably anyway). Not sure how it will affect rec fishing but check it out. The bar is harsh too. Never ever ever head through the north side, and if you do need to go north, dont turn untill a good 300 meters or so out. Waves swoop up and break that far out and it will wipe you out. Seen a very long term charter go over doing it, and it was a pretty flat day. Stick to the south side and pick your times. If you go to the tackle shop on the flats and see Daryl. He runs the biggest charter down there and will give some pointers to the bar. Good bloke Haven't fished it for 10 years, but it never failed down there.
  10. Does anyone know what time the servo opens at Brooklyn?
  11. It's sucking air. Block those lines off proparly and see if you have any problems. If you do, then the possabilities are endless!! Good service by a good marine guy will be a start.
  12. I will ask a silly question, is it warped or bent? I would imagine that could cause problems. Never seen it before but maybe
  13. Sounds like it's trimmed up a little. If you trim down further it should take the bouncing away.
  14. The linkage runs down the back of the leg and is just a splined shaft that goes into the lower unit. Should be a plastic guide that sits in the lower unit which sometimes will stay on the shaft. Careful not to loose it. I always put mine in gear only so I can spin the drive shaft with the prop. Makes it easier to feed back into the motor.
  15. Went out last weekend around lion island drifting the chanel between the island and main land, scored 10 flatty between 38 & 45 cm, 2 shovelnose sharks and a stonker tailer, best day I've ever had out there. Water temp is high too, felt like a bath. All that in about 4 hours.
  16. I was in Forster for the first 2 weeks of December and it was very slow. Water was still really cold so not much around. I did get 6 shovel nose sharks which was good fun on light gear.
  17. I suppose big bill fish have to start somewhere. Interested to know exactly what it is but.
  18. Well it's happened before. Not sure there was much left to eat but, they where pretty thin when they got back
  19. Too many times we here of this.... There is nothing lower than a thief....
  20. Un real story isn't it. Very lucky young men
  21. They are pro fishers as I saw the pulling them. I would have thought there is a law against not marking pots if your pro. It's a local patonga boat, seen them a few times now.
