  1. Hi mate I jigged their last weekend and only got fish on a black and gold jig. Cheers Kingpig
  2. Hi everyone Ages since i posted anything due to not fishing. Last Saturday a good mate of mine, his mate from Adelaide, my mates 2 sons, my son and myself, went to try and get some deep water kingies. We fished out of Terrigal on a charter boat. The chater operator was great working hard to get us onto fish and stayed out until 4pm. The total at the end of the day was 9 kings from 85 to 95cm. 6 Bonnies one was the biggest bonnie i have seen. The sharks 2 kingies Grrrrrr. Plenty of pulled hooks trying to keep them off the bottom. Most fish were caught on live baits, but also got a few jigging with black and gold jigs working best for me. Great day good weather and plenty of fun banter. Cheers Kingpig.
  3. Hi Mate I am using a Torium 30 for the exact job you are talking about. The 6.2 : 1 ratio is good jigging and gets your bait up from the bottom quick. Works of me. Cheers Kingpig
  4. Hi Mate I have found over many years that paper works but to soaked. Try a heshan bag (better if the weave is coarse). Squeeze the water out and lay it on then roll the bag up and put in a cool place. It should glast for two to three weeks like this unless it comes from fresh water then it is very hard to keep. Even if it has that distictive smeel of going off it will work and your berly will be good. Cheers Kingpig
  5. Both the Saltist and Saragosa are good reels. The saltist will hold more line and has more drag out of the box. The Saltist is more that likley a little cheaper. Both have the same amount of bearings. In my opion try and find the best deal you can get on either and buy it.
  6. What type of rod and line are u trying to cast.
  7. Fisrt get some big gear. My groper outfit is a 9144 Schnider with a large alvey reel and minimum 24kg line. No leaders just a small ball sinker and a good strong hook. I use mustard 542s size 6. Berly with crab or broken sea urchins. Find some red crabs for bait. Throw one in and hang on.
  8. Just another precausion is when travelling have a hub set up with the bearing already installed greased and ready. It is now worth a great deal and although preventitive maintenance is the best option this gives you a great fall back position. Is quick and not messy. Cheers Kingpig
  9. A basic rod is not hard to build and i have built lots. It get harder as you want more detail like custom wrap design and i have done plenty of these as well. PM me if you want. I live on Erskine Park
  10. Mate I have fished and eaten blackfish since a very early age and i have never seen what you discribe.
  11. Hi people. Some would already know that i have been having problems with the tilt and trim on my 2001 evinrude 115hp motor. I determined that the issue was in the tilt system itself somewhere and the best method to work on this was to remove the whole unit from the motor and work on it on a bench. This was not that hard to do. When i removed it i found a small earth strap running from the engine mounting bracket under one of the bolts holding the tilt motor. This strap was completelt burned through and had blackened the paint on the back of the tilt motor. The winding of the tilt motor is also black and burned when i pulled it apart. I have another tilt motor to install thanks to Huett Marine. Somehow the main earth from the engine must be running through this small earth cable. Has anyone got any experience with this? Cheers Kingpig
  12. Hey Guys, I thought I would go through an issue i have been working on regarding the power tilt on my Evinrude 2001 115hp engine. Firstly i must say thanks to Craig at Heutts Marine for the help and advice he and the friendly people there have givin me. This started on the water about 3 weeks ago when the power tilt on my motor failed. The motor was fully down and when i got it on my trailer the bottom of the skeg was dragging on the concrete boat ramp and i could not pull the boat out without creating further damage. The manual release screw was seized and i could not turn it. I broke 2 screwdrivers trying. In desperation i cut the wires feeding power to the tilt pump and connencted these straight to the battery and the got the motor up and the boat out. 3 hours of frustration. I drive away form the ramp thinking well at least its not the pump and motor. Thinking this is electrical i traced back along the power system and found that the tilt motor is controlled by two relays and that one of mine was shorted out also behind one had a burn mark on the distribution board. I replaced the relays and the plug that i had cut off and bingo power to the pump and it drives but very erratic specially when going down in fast before the trim cylinders come into play. Thinking that it may be seized in the front pivot luggs. I took the pin out that connencts the fast speed tilt ram to the engine and i could tilt it by hand easy all 115hp of it. Maybe not enough fluid. Run the cylinders all the way up and open the fill cap. Nice clean red hydraulic fliud begins to run out. Its full. Now im back to the pump and motor its a bugger or a place to work and i think the best option is to take the bottom clevis pin out and remove the whole unit from the boat. Has anyone ever had problems with there power tilt hydraulic pump and motor that may be able to shed some light my way?
  13. Hi Mate. I have a No2 Sarca on my Stessl plate alloy boat. Mako 5.3 with 115hp engine. It holds me in all conditions. I dont think your chain is long or heavy enough. I can just throw this anchor over and not hold the rope at all and it grabs. I never use it on reef as it hold to well. I also see people who do not allow enough rope out so the angle of the rope is very steep. I allow about two time the depth minimum. Cheers Kingpig
  14. Congrats Now try a mid sized popper in red and white. Fire it out and bloop it on the top then let it sit for several seconds before blooping it again. slow dont over pull the rod. Or use a diving lure that suspends in the water. Throw it out bring it to get it down then work it like the popper but below the surface. Stick the live bait out as well to cover all options. Have fun Kingpig
  15. When I was there last time i caught some big eye trevs of the wharf at night. The boat they take people over and back on, leaves each night after the dolphin feeding. There is a big light at the end of the wharf that they have on for people to board. This attracts plenty of bait. After the boat leaves they turn the light off and the bait gets smashed by bigger fish. I used a 6 inch white sluggo and got smashed a few times but also got a few in.
  16. We bought an alvey for cousin for his 21st birthday. Funny present you may say but he thought it was great. We had it engraved as well. That was over Thirty years ago now the engraving has worn away with age, plenty of washer have been replaced but he still has only ever owns one yabbied pump. Guess what brand mine is? Cheer Kingpig
  17. Most fish were taken on shallow diving lures. The ones we had were Rebel Cricket Hoppers but i think any lure with a decent action would have done the job. There was a lot of floating weed. I think is Alagator weed but may be wrong. This made surface lures impossible in most areas. There was a small section were i used a surface lure and got fish. Wish the weed was not there, seeeing them hit is good.
  18. Hi Guys I got home from work early yesterday arvo and thought the weather is to nice not to do something. So my son and I struck my caneo on the car and we went to Devlins Lane bass fishing. Plenty of weed of all types but fishable. Went down the river and arond the corner just before the storm hit and it rained on us a little, not to bad. My sons 1st cast produced a fish and to top it off he got about 5 more before i got any. This started a nice session with over 30 fish between us. Unfortunately there were no good ones. The average size about 10cm. Some up to 25cm but some down as small as 3cm. sorry no pics. I did not take a camera or a phone with the storm looming. If you want to catch plenty of bass there are heaps of little fellas there. Cheers and tight lines Kingpig
  19. If u use some floatant on the fly line it will help get it up out of the water on the roll. Dont use grease this i find effects the line. There are some with lanilan (not sure how to spell it) Cheers
  20. What these guys have said is right for them they are guys who love to fish fly. I fish all types of geasr including fly and most of the kings i have caught on fly have been within 15 M of the boat. Sure a good fly rod is nice but if you want to get one then the money is big. I would have said 8wt is way to small. I use a 10wt and then i am out gunned most of the time. I have a gillies 10wt i think it cost just over $100. I use a alvey salt water fly reel sorry i do not know the model but there web site would have one. I am using 10wt intermediate weight forward line. The last 10M is clear it was designed for flats fishing. All up this outfit cost me about $350 and i have landed some good kings on it. I figured that if I liked this i could upgrade later. I like it but have never upgraded this outfit suits me. cheers have fun
  21. I have fished this area and below the dam into the shoal haven. Try Tilsen Bass lures in Jaffa colour. Troll in close in the shade during the day. Surface lures at dusk and into the night. Lots of fish the last time i went. Have fun
  22. This sounds more a problem with the choke. The motor fires than chokes and dies.

  24. My brother has just returned from the Soth Island chasing trout and other things Although he mainly fishes fly he did uses some luse. He told me the main type used looks like the ABU TOBY. If im remember right this was a gold spoon type luse maybe 40mm long and 12mm wide twisted to make it flick throught the water. It had fins top and bottom at the back that were red. Have fun
  25. I not photos but my father caught one many years ago at Windy Woppa. Blackfish fishermen may know this spot. It weight 4 lb 3 oz whick by my calculations makes it 1.9Kg and the biggerst one i have ever seen. It was caught on peeled prawn using blackfish gear during the slack time of high tide. It gave a very good account if itself this fish with much havic being created in the boat occupied by my dad and his mate. My brother and i fishing on the bank p......sing ourselves laughing as they tried to net the fish. Good days. If anyone knows if this spot has ever begun to hold fish in winter agian like it used to, after the nets were removed from Nelson Bay let me know. I woud love to go back and relive some of the fun i had there as a kid.
