If you think of ping speed as the amount of times the transducer sends a signal down to the bottom which bounces and comes back to the tranny. Obviously this takes much longer in deep water. If your ping speed is too high the signal or ping doesn't have time to travel all the way to the sea floor and back up to the tranny, before it sends another signal. Also do you run your depth range on auto or manual? We get bottom on a standard 600w 50/200 tranny at browns. If you want any more info send me a pm Cheers Leo

Varnishes and epoxy for timber, and the like aren't ideal for rod building. They aren't designed to flex like a fishing rod does and won't last before cracking. Do yourself a huge favour and get some rod building epoxy, flex coat is also what I use. Do a google search and you'll find a few places that sell it. If you've gone to the trouble of hand wrapping the rod you may as well use the right stuff. Cheers Leo

G'day I also shape cork for arbors when mounting the reel seat. But there would be too much wiggle room if you're going to slide them on over the butt of the blank. This may be helpful if you catch the bug and decide to build more rods. Cheers Leo

G'day The idea behind them is a slight weight reduction and also that when your finger is touching the blank you will feel every little bump through the graphite blank. Instead of cork arbors under the reel seat you can use graphite arbors which weigh less and pass on vibrations better. The split grips are also only for weight reduction. I haven't had a problem using expose blanks, or split grips in rod holders either. Cheers Leo

G'day Have you had the unit working in the past? When I first installed mine, a hds5 with a 50/200 transducer, we had a similar problem but dropper the tranny about an 25mm and haven't had a problem since. Another thing it could be is a glitch in the software. Have you upgraded the software since installing it? Cheers Leo

G'day The difference between circle and j hooks is that a circle hook get completely swallowed by a fish and the shape of it causes it to catch on the fishes jaw when the line pulls taught as the hook comes out of the fishes throat. So you do give the fish a bit of line. This may give a drummer time to make it back under the ledge? I've never tried circles for them so I guess there's only one way to find out. Cheers Leo

G'day Check with your manufacturer or documentation to see whether your engine and fuel system, if you have a sub floor tank, are compatible with ethanol. Ethanol can eat away some hoses, but if your outboard is that new it may well be compatible? Cheers Leo

Yeah, if you cast in the direction you are drifting you will have a longer time to jig/work your lure before you start towing it, which usually pulls the lure up in the water column, especially with lighter lures. But then there's nothing to say you can't catch fish pulling the lure behind you, just use a heavier jig head, especially for flatties! Hope this helps. Cheers Leo

G'day Have you thought of trying a sea anchor. Obviously they aren't much good in shallower water. In regards to sp fishing. I've found you just have to speed up your retrieve. I've always had more luck casting up current with blades and plastics. Cheers Leo

G'day Wash the area well, and then again with white spirits or similar and lay them on with a flat piece of plastic, I use a spatula sort of thing with plenty of pressure. Hope that helps. Cheers Leo

G'day The tow point is the snap lock, or split ring you tie your line to on the top of the blade. Most blades have 2-4 little holes. Cheers Leo

G'day I've got a few bream and flatties on a simple hop pause hop retrieve around structure, and have got the odd trevally jigging through midwater on blades. It pays to experiment with playing with the tow point position as well, as a general rule of thumb further forward for faster retrieves and to the back for slower retrieves. But i have often hooked a fish first cast after moving it. I've also upgraded my hooks to singles because I got sick of trying to pull blades out of flatties throats with trebles, and it has improved my hookup rate. Cheers Leo
