G'day, joining the cable isn't ideal but should work, but the DIY connections are rubbish. They won't last at all with the vibrations on a boat. Any data company should have the proper crimps, and should be able to do it. But I'd get some 'glue lined heat shrink' online and liquid electrical tape from a boating shore and completely cover the connection, a couple of times. As corrosion in the joint will give you a bad reading. Cheers Leo

No worries good luck! I usually use 3/0, or 5/0 circles for flatties on bait. And as long as you stay on a sandy bottom, don't be afraid to drag your sinker along the bottom. The extra disturbance stirs them up! Cheers Leo

G'day stinkbait Yeah, it sounds like you're doing all the right things. What areas are you fishing? Flatties do slow down in the cooller months, but spring is upon us! I've also found half pilchards on a paternoster rig (sinker on the bottom) especially offshore. You've definitely got the right idea trying to focus on a species. But always have a contingency. G'day I've had the same issue, old spool (12-18months, and kept at home) put it on the reel, and noticed it on the boat. After putting the scales on it, it was breaking well under around 60-75%strength, mind you it was 50lb Cheers Leo

But I do remember reading an article a while back saying that kingies do have a resident population during winter, they are just harder to catch as they slow their metabolic system down. G'day Are you based north or south Sydney? Every beach will hold different fish at different times. I used to mainly fish the northern beaches, and the location depended on wind, current and beach formations like gutters. The best thing to learn is how to spot likely gutters or holes. If you can get to a high spot off the beach wearing polarized sun glasses you will see these areas as darker water. But check every session as the water activity constantly changes the sandbanks, so a gutter or hole may be there one day and not the next. The best time for salmon in my opinion is early sunrise and sunset, especially if those times coincide with a tide change. Hope this helps, let me know if you want any more info. Cheers Leo

G'day Andrew I use covers for most of my rigged lures. But I have had gun ho mates throw them into the spread without removing said covers. I also use 25mm diameter and up heatshrink as sleeves for the business end of trolling skirts that are in the lure rolls, to minimise the mess that occurs when you manage to 'accumulate' more than the roll is designed for. I picked up some online for about $50 for a mate. It was about 4m. But it was chips with 3 lights per chip and cables connecting them. I can't remember the exact current draw but LEDs use next to no power compared to incandescent lights.

G'day Yeah the strip lights are great. But try to get them up under the gunnel out of direct view to reduce glare. Or consider installing a 12volt dimmer. Cheers Leo

Also don't forget the make-up of diesel has changed over the years. It now lacks the lubrication properties of yesteryear due to misguided international treaties. Probably the biggest factor is cars/4wds are the same as anything these days, built to fail to keep service sectors going, not built to last... Cheers Leo

G'day Yeah a tongue louse. I've seen them on all sorts of fish from snapper, trevally, to slimies. The weirdest thing is they don't seem to bother the fish too much, I'd be pissed if something ate my tongue! They often crawl out of their hosts mouth in the esky. Cheers Leo

No worries mate. I'm running the same software. I've found the hds temperamental out wide, but love playing with it haha. I've found the book depth sounder secrets pretty helpful, but it's definitely practice makes perfect.
