G'day Try an improved Albright or slim beauty. Cheers Leo
  2. I'll have a chat with my mate today to confirm what we are using in the 115, but aside from that maybe send a message to Huett marine. Those guys know e-tecs a hell of a lot more than me. Cheers Leo
  3. G'day We've got a 115 on my mates boat, and the first 50 hours, during the run in period, the motor runs on a richer oil fuel ratio. It drops down to a normal level after that. Cheers Leo
  4. G'day Machine Head The one piece of advice I can give you is think about doing a charter sometime soon. The amount of info you learn in a few hours is priceless. Especially if you go with Reef Magic the site sponsors, they are more than happy to explain why they are doing what they are doing, everything from lure choice, setting the spread, and signs to look for. Aside from that plenty of time on the water and you put yourself in with a better chance than most. Good luck Cheers Leo
  5. G'day I also find some of the "justifications" like rec fishers illegally selling their catch quite offensive. I hope everyone has entered submissions, as this affects us all. Cheers Leo

    Robbie's wish

G'day Great to hear there was a good result. Cheers Leo
  7. G'day Another tip, if using pool noodles DO NOT write on the noodle with a permanent marker unless you like throwing out rigs. The ink marks fishing line after a while. Cheers Leo
  8. G'day Scratchie I saw an add for this app on a fishing show and I'm sure they said they would have the app covering Australia wide by the end of the year. I'm eagerly waiting as well. Cheers Leo
  9. G'day It looks like a glitch to me, since you have contours on the left of the screen. Have you upgraded your maps recently on your computer? We had a similar problem after upgrading on a lowrance hds, and plugged it back in to the computer, reinstalled the upgrades and it worked. Hope that helps. Cheers Leo
  10. G'day It's a bit hard to explain but the biggest problem is moisture. You can usually find rot by tapping on the transom, paying plenty of attention to any areas where there's any fixtures or screws, listening for a hollow or dull sounds. Also look for cracks, or damage in the gel coat. There's a book I read called the boat building manual, which goes into everything you'll ever need to know in detail, including identifying problems, or there's heaps on good old google. Like Huey said you can do most things yourself, with a bit of research and practice. There's a bountiful supply of pre-loved bargains around that could be beautiful again with a bit of hard work. Cheers Leo
  11. G'day Paul From what I've read, cover your draining bucket with a coffee filter or stocking. Pour in alcohol, leave for 30mins to break up any sediment. Come back and swirl around the tank and pour through filter/stocking into the bucket. Then repeat process until there's no more gunk left in the filter in the bucket, and dry the tank over night. I also tie a chux over any openings with a rubber band while drying over night to prevent moths and the likes. Hope that helps. Cheers Leo
  12. G'day The batteries could do with a top up charge, from a smart charger like a ctek. All batteries loose charge over time, so if you're not running the motor they will eventually go flat, which is no good for the batteries. I'm also a strong believer in using products like salt away to wash any salt residue out of the motor, especially if its not used as much. Hope that helps Cheers Leo
  13. G'day From what I read they are usually caught in deep offshore waters. Cheers Leo
  14. Yeah I'll 2nd that, sure looks like a big eye. Its a beautiful fish Cheers Leo
  15. G'day Scratchie Read a report in a mag today from a tackle shop up that way, bait on the shelf with yellowfin in the mix. I had a 3 way hookup on fin out which all tangled, at the canyons in may 2 years ago Cheers Leo
  16. Yes it does. My Uncle is a Fisheries Officer (here in Vic) and they maintain a roster manning a similar number. They respond to as many calls as they can and often provide the caller with feedback. It's a great initiative and one that I have had first-hand experience with regarding a fisho who was 'poaching' in our local waters in NSW. Any assistance we can provide to assist them with policing their often expansive areas will be appreciated. Cheers Hodgey There you go, that's good to hear. I've called a few times, in regards to undersized fish, and will continue to, but haven't had a response. As with all useful government departments, they are doing all they can with the small amount of funds they receive. Cheers Leo
  17. G'day predator The fishers watch line 1800 043 536 On this number you can leave a message so they can "get back to you." Apparently it used to go through to actual fisheries officers which would be great to see again. Cheers Leo
  18. Gday Either a river or maybe a golden catfish, hard to tell from the photo, I've heard a lot of aboriginals love them. Watch the spine on the dorsal fin though, rather painful. Cheers Leo
  19. Sensational mate. Hope you're having fun! Cheers Leo
  20. G'day, They have changed the rules and now anyone over 18 can operate any size boat at under 10 knots. Cheers Leo
  21. G'day crusher I've got a mate going to swaines out of Gladstone in 3 weeks so ill let you know. Everyone I speak to who's been tell me to put it on the bucket list though Cheers Leo
  22. G'day Have you tried banjo Paterson park? Down the road from gladesville cop shop. Usually do ok with flathead and bream on vibes Cheers Leo

    Rod repairs

Unfortunately I don't think that would be possible without adversely affecting the action of the rod. Cheers Leo

    Rod repairs

G'day Really the only thing that can be done is to cut down the blank a reposition the guides, assuming you broke the tip. It would be impossible to re-glue the blank. Cheers Leo
  25. G'day I service my own reels and all you need is patience and some care. You can use marine grease on the handle, or if you're not worried about the cost, cals drag grease. Cheers Leo
