  1. ahhahaha yeah perfect! lucky i didn't have my mouth open!!! :D

Salty if you swallow I have been told! Hahhahaah !!!

ahhahahhaha u have been told OR U KNOW??? LOL

Priceless photo and I guess your Mrs won't be complaining unless you convert them to kingie LOL

hahaha Gav, she would take a squid over a king any day, she ain't a big fan of sashimi, what a loser huh? LOL

Good stuff! I heard about this report before I actually saw it here. It must be getting a lot of people excited!

You heard about this beforehand? hmmmm.... who's spying on me? there was a guy who was LB that saw what happened, he couldn't stop laughing! LOL

  2. Nice work mr squid lol

    thanks Luke!

    A nice feed there.

Next time, put on a motorcycle helmet. :074: A little bit of squid ink goes a long way!

might have to try that one next time, not sure what kind of looks I'll be getting my way though ehehhe

I think all squid hunters should invest in one of these :

oh man! perfect, there could be a market right there for this!

Haha classic. Don't they use squid ink for pasta sauce in Italy?

    I'm not kidding!

yes, the Japanese also put them in their noodles. I have tried it, and beats me why they do! taste like crap! ahahaha

Mate the Harbour was the same for me last night getting 3 green eye and dropping 2 in 40 minutes at dusk.

They really were hitting the jigs hard. My boat got inked bad but I managed a quick " duck 'n' weave".

    Mike

tell u what, you got to be on your toes when you're reeling them in, but a bit hard to duck n weave in yak, pretty sure I'll be in the drink if I tried to hehehe

  3. Great money shot!

    Tasty dinner coming

ahhahaha yeah perfect! lucky i didn't have my mouth open!!! :D

Nice one!!! Good thing the sunnies saves ya eyes from ink =)

oh man! sunnies did nothing to protect my eyes, most of it landed on my forehead, and trickled down.

oh dayum!! he did you on the first date! lol nice catch dude : )

hahahaha yeah would have thought he'd leave it for the second date! ahahaha

Nice catch. I am new to kayak fishing, I was wondering if there are any tricks to catch them off the yak or special technique? I am wondering since the yak is so quiet, could you peddle/paddle around trolling squid lures to any success?

no tricks, same as what you would do on the boat or land based, the main thing is to get the jig down into the strike zone which is about 1m off the bottom. So whatever you do, be it a drift a slow troll or anchor, you have to make sure the jig is down there. Oh and also find the right colour as well, that goes a long way!

  4. Hi Raiders, the mrs has been complaining that I ain't bringing no squid home anymore. DON'T USE THEM ALL FOR BAIT!!! she always says LOL!

My meeting this morning got canned, so what else am I a suppose to do? load the yak and a quick squid session before heading into the office is what!! :D

First squid went a good size, and decided to get excited and squirt about a litre of ink all over me and the yak! not happy Jan! :ranting2:

Then on every drift, they came on board, dropped a couple too, my fault for not bringing the net.

As the water is cooling, the bigger ones are coming into the bay to spawn, and from the feel of their strikes, they are HUNGRY! so get out there and get them!!

  5. unlucky mate! yeah salmon take pretty much everything a king takes. Let them have the yakkas I say, just leave my dam squid alone! :D

keep at it mate, that big king is around the corner.

  6. Good work Zarn. You need to join us a bit more on the yak.

Just remember to bring a net or gaff

1 jewwie last night sunk a hook in my leg and kept jumping around. The consequences of grilling the fish.

Al Al Al, yes definitely will try to get out on the yak, I just need to get some warmer clothes first =).

too bad about today huh? wished you could have gotten that big one! oh wells, always next time buddy!

  7. 3 Jews is a fantastic haul... well done!

I have never had any success on the Jews with yakkas and tailor ( preferring squid) ... You pinning the lives through the nose and how far down are you sending them?

I guess ill be see you and the jewie spots from now on!

    See ya buddy!

thanks mate! I call it a fluke, possibly right place and right time. Alike going for kings with squid, everything else loves squid as well. Put down yakkas and tailor and usually the only thing that would take it is something a lot bigger. Piin them lightly on the back just behind dorsal fin, and down about 8 metres.

and no, I haven't given up on kingies =) was out today and due to some frayed braid, cost me a possibility of a big hoodie, don't think I'll be sleeping too well tonight =(

Great report and nice jewies mate! You do look a bit tired in that picture B)

thanks buddy! yeah I was bugged as! guess that's the price you pay when u go for jewies.

Who needs sleep when you can hear that reel scream. Nice job mate.

Wheat out on Monday ended with 5 nothing special back out again on Monday. I might take a pillow and try your new fishing style Ill c you out there mate

ahahah thanks Luke, nah no pillows allowed, I used a life jacket!

great work on the jews :) I like the technique lol

    thanks bud!

  8. nice work Zarn

Would have thought there would be closer places to catch yakkas

thanks Tan, there probably is, but launching from Foreshore and knowing that I can definitely get yakkas from molli point made it the logical choice =)

Was wondering when you are going to post this. Congrats on getting into them on your first serious attempt.

Heard they fight like crap but delicious. :)

How do you hold up 3 fish with 2 hands? Was there someone behind you lending a hand?

thanks bud, yeah can't remember the last time I actually went for jews. Fight like crap on 30lb line they do, but the biggest one was caught on my lighter gear which made it a little bit more enjoyable and yes they are delicious!!

2 hands but 10 fingers buddy.

    Couple of nice jewies.

    thanks mate

Years ago, I caught some of the schoolies on 3 pound line (when there were plenty about), and they don't fight like crap on such light line!.

sheesh, I can't even contemplate even a schoolie on 3lb.

Nice report and certainly I missed out due to been too tired from work and other commitments. Hopefully I have time do a night sesh next week and start getting some of these beautiful jews you got.

shame about that Gavs, don't worry buddy I am sure you'll be onto them very soon.

    Well done Zarn,

Now you need one off your yak. :)

We're hoping for a change of scenery too.

there are a lot of other fish that I need to land from the yak! =)

that change of scenery is coming very very soon!!! =)
