  1. About halfway to the back of the lake
  2. Today I saw something I never think i'd see in a lifetime. I was wading in the shallows this morning and this little guy came to say hello. Does anyone have any experience with catching squid in the lake? I asked the bloke at the tackle shop and he says once in a while he'll pull the odd squid out but I always thought they were nonexistent in that system.
  3. Do they scare the crap out of anyone else or is it just me? The are amazing to admire but i'm always paranoid about stepping on one when wading the flats and feel a bit uneasy when some bigger ones swim my way. With that said i've fed the one in port stephens too and she's a monster
  4. were you fishing with the livies under a float or only on the bottom?
  5. ive seen some guys drop it straight down and jig it up and down and they got some. I tried it a few times with no luck though so i think it depends on the day
  6. I think it's a shame that everybody is taking home so many fish there because give it another month and they'll all be gone. Some guys must have kept 100+ fish past few weeks. Well done on the catch though. Would have been fun for you and the young one
  7. Hey mate, very nice catch. was wondering where you get your mullet from? I have had trouble catching them as of late
  8. How do I know when they're in their normal state? Will bread under a float with berley normally catch them? I was thinking that too. I always thought when they jump out of the water they're chasing food on the surface.
  9. There are heaps of mullet in Narra lake at the moment. I can see big schools of them on the surface and occasionally they leap out of the water. I know you can catch poddy mullet with traps, but I want to hook onto some of the bigger models for some fun, and for bait on the beach. I brought some bread with me today. I berleyed up and fished with it under a float for no luck. I tried unweighted pieces for nada. I can see them swimming past my bread berley and bait and ignoring it. So i'm left a bit confused. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Are they simply not feeding or am i doing something wrong?
  10. The knob without the net? Yep that was me. If you boys are down there often i will definitely see you again
  11. Saw some guys having fun on luderick a few weeks ago so i decided i'd give it a go. Bought myself a float and some Mustad snecks and went down to Narrabeen headlands to scrape some weed. Found some that looked like the stuff i saw in the youtube videos so i went for that. Headed down to the channel at the lake and asked some nice blokes for advice. They seemed to be getting them every cast and helped me adjust my rig and gave me some good pointers. I struggled for a while, but eventually i watched my float dip down and got into a very nice fish pushing 40cm. Biggest of the day. The next few hours saw me learning a lot and as the sun went down, i had a good bag of fish and threw my remaining weed into the channel to thank the fishing gods (and fatten the blackies for next time!) Why didnt anybody tell me how fun this was?! Will definitely be back soon as a blackfish convert
  12. Hit Dee Why tonight. Hooked onto something that swallowed my gangs and bit me off - probably tailor. Solid fish too. Other guy was getting some salmon and tailor. Bites stopped when it went dark but another guy got a nice flattie
  13. 100 bucks for 4 hours. If you split it between 4 people it becomes great value
  14. Took a hire boat out of Rose Bay and kept it nice and simple. Just cubing pillies and berleying up. Have become a massive fan of circle hooks. I fished one rod with circle hooks in the holder and another in my hand. Circles made things very convenient! All fish caught on pillies. I had a kingfish follow the trevally up. Flicked a white flickbait around but no luck. Yet to get into my first pelagic. Would love a nice bonito or king! A good day none the less.
  15. swallowtail dart, quite common from the beach
  16. i find the guys who hire out boats know a thing or two about local haunts
  17. 2-4kg 7ft rod, 2000 reel, 4-6lb braid that sounds perfect for an esturary rod. really depends on what you're targeting.
  18. Ask if you can use your neighbour's washer in their backyard. Problem solved
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwxB-K5m1Ro Never seen anything like that in my life
  20. some people really like the taste of them. No problem with keeping them if you do. Each to their own
  21. Windy as heck today too. I might join you for a future session mate. I live in the north also
  22. Check out how this guy handles a double http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsNpdBvAbdo
  23. I use a paternoster rig or running sinker, both with a star sinker and fluoro. I also use a rod length of mono before the swivel to increase abrasion resistance because im using braid. 2 ganged hooks for half a pilchard, and 3 for whole.
  24. im thinking the second one might be some kind of fireworm
  25. Whenever I get wind knots and i can't untangle them, i sometimes just cut them out and join the two pieces of braid back together with an albright. it's pretty ugly and my line is full of albrights but it gets the job done. I've never had a braid-braid knot fail on me. I just do some extra loops in the knot for added security
