  1. Love it wetlegs. Bring it on. Couldn't agree more. There are many more issues like this out here. Like people who troll through schools of fish when your casting at them. But I wont go there again..
  2. I have a 6# Shakespear Flyrod. Super high quality Fibreglass. MSG me if your keen. Kurt
  3. Could be a couple of things. I would say either water in the motor Or really dirty fuel filter.
  4. That right near the rowing club isn't it
  5. Can I ask. Were you fishing past the narrows in the gorge, or around the bridges and the rowing club
  6. 1. Anywhere where there is Kelp, Rocky or Shelter. Clifton Gardens is a great place to start. 2. Yes, stripping squid is a great bait. 3. Yes 4. Varies. 5m-15m. You'll need a downrigger 5. Braided main line onto a mono leader 30lb+ 6. Unlikely, stay calm bring your lines in and get out of its way.
  7. I work on the harbour 5 days a week plus the time I have fishing. I have dealt with ferry drivers that purposely wash off rowing crews (luckily that individual no longer works with Sydney Ferries). One thing I saw yesterday alone, was a rowing crew trying to cross the river and in that time two ferries came and instead of pulling in behind one another, they both went on either side of the boat, filling it up with water, to the point where it almost sunk. I'm not trying to say they are all like this though. And Ferries run at nearly a 60million dollar loss "Sydney Ferries cost taxpayers $91.8 million last year - or $9.48 per passenger journey. Farebox revenue fell $11.9 million to $36.7 million" SMH
  8. Ok, was just looking for some ideas from you guys. Pretty much I am after a light spinning outfit for the harbour that has the ability to deal with bigger fish that come along. My Original thought was a Daiwa Freams 4000 on a Samaki Zing Medium 7' 8-15lb. But now I have got thinking on the rod and reel. Reel. Maybe a Shimano Stradic FJ 4000. Has 10kg drag or a Shimano Stradic CI4 4000... Rod, Maybe a G.Loomis. Either Bronzeback SMR822S-SP 7'4 8-12lb or a SJR 781 GL2 6-10lb 6'6. I really don't know. I was looking at spending $500 max.. I really like the Samaki's though. I don't know if I can justify spending the big bucks on the Loomis. Don't know if I will get that much more performance out of them Help would be appreciated
  9. Mate, ferry drivers are Cowboys. Worst thing is, there is even more of them now. I heard a figure that each ferry looses in excess of 35000 a week.
  10. There are Jacks in the Lane Cove, but not worth targeting. They too few and far between. Water needs to be really boiling too.
  11. Yeah so as Royts has said we were always outside the zone.. I think when we were pulled over we were in the bay behind the opera house. We weren't really given an explanation and the water police guy asked us what we were doing? It must have been pretty obvious with someone on a casting deck with a fly rod.. Ha but I assume a complaint came from a ferry master. They complain about everything. I deal with them daily and they aren't very tolerant
  12. Guys just looking for a few opinions here. I was out fishing the harbour today, on the way back home, came across some schools around the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Now I know that there is a no loitering and no stopping zone. It stretches from Blues Point, to the Opera House. So myself and two other fished on the legal zone catching a few salmon. Whenever a ferry would come, we would move out of the way. Motor was never turned off. But then Water Police come and we had a slight disagreement before taking all my details and making me move on. Claiming it was a transit zone (isn't the whole harbour a transit zone). Now I was not happy, because we had taken all the measures to not break the law and avoid any situations. Really ruined a good days fishing. Kurt
  13. We use the squidgy resin 4/0 Jig head. They barely sink. Look them up on a tackle shop website
  14. I would say that its either the fuel pump or the fuel filter. The other thing that might be wrong is that it has some water in it. In that case you will need to install a glass bowl. Just take it to your local marine mechanic. It's not something that you can fix yourself.
  15. Have u tried some of the 'walk the dog' style lures. They have the best surface strikes..
  16. Couldn't really be bothered to get up early and fight for a spot on the boat ramp today so hit Lane Cove River at about lunch time. Took a picnic and a "Friend". Ended up with 4 flatties, biggest 45cm, a nice yellowfin bream 35cm and a stack of whiting. The river is firing up, but I haven't been able to get into any big Lizards since about July. Anyway, didn't get many pics. But all were caught on either Squidgy Bloodworm Wrigglers or Daiwa 3G vibe.
  17. When you've got 10+ boats all circled around a school casting and you drive through the school you will cop it. Especially from me. You wouldn't drive within 5m of a guy anchored up in the river, so why do it out on the Harbour.
  18. Yeah we have cracked a few on the poppers. Our big thing now is trying to get them on popper flies
  19. Yep most of them have been caught around north head, but you can find them on the surface as far up as Putney. Interestingly I haven't seen them in middle harbor once. In terms of fly line, I use an 8# intermediate 1 with a straight 1.5m 10lb fluorocarbon leader. But a floating line will work. Maybe stay away from a sinking line.. Look at a shooting head or something, best for working in the wind
  20. Hi Raiders, It's been a great couple of weeks recently with the Salmon. It seems they have become so reliable that you can get them everyday. My record so far is 36 in a day. A few people that I have met recently out on the water have been asking me what lures I have been using, because the Salmon have been feeding on Glass Minnow and have been a bit hard to hook. One guy even offered me $50 for a lure. I've found the best lure to use is a Crystal 6' Silstar Slapstix, and in terms of the fly the Surf Candy has been most effective. The slapstix is also a great lure incase the Kings turn up. Personally I haven't seen any kings on the surface, but it is only a matter of time. Gotta say the slaptix out fishes any traditional metal slug. I urge everyone to get out and give the fly a crack while you can because it's just too easy at the moment. Just one thing, try and avoid trolling through the schools, because it won't work and it will only put the fish down. I lost it the other day at a guy who trolled through the school and snapped my fly line in the process. Kurt
  21. Just shake it up before use..
  22. I would just stick clear of resident fish. Bream, Flathead, Flounder. Pelagic species are fine to eat.
  23. Yeah biggest Bream I've ever seen was there. Though it was a snapper. But Sanctuary Zone and no fishing. There are also some resident kingfish
  24. Adam. Saw you trying to have a crack for them again today. How did u go?
