  1. Hi all

with the cold weather im already working on improving the boat for next summer.

My rig is a 4.90 1990 Quintrex lazeabout.

High on my priority list is an under floor fuel tank.

I have been advised not to go stainless/alloy as they can crack and are also out of my budget, >$1000 fitted.

This has brought me to the catalogue of plastic tanks available from sant marine.

Problem is the ribs in the hull are only 380mm apart and i can only fit the following 30L tank:

    http://www.santmarine.com.au/store/popup_image.php?pID=276ℑ=1

    My questions are:

Is it possible to fit two of these tanks to run simultaneously?

If so how is this achieved?

Anyone using one of these tanks?

Is it a 'DIY' fitment process?

Has anyone fitted a tank themselves?

From what i can see and assume it áppears' to be a fairly straight forward process.

    Thanks

    Paul

  2. From what i have seen they also appear to fight harder than ever on the DR. I put this down to the higher drag i run when DR, the more you push the kings they more they push back. Was watching adventure bound episode where he 'went easy' on a hoodie and it came in 'quietly'. Or as quiet as a hoodie gets.

  3. 80lb with 100lb trace. Doesnt matter once they hit the rocks its gone no matter how heavy. We have tried serious drag and they still get to the bottom and you cant get the rod out of the holder. I think you have to drive them out or maybe open the bail arm. They have all been honkers though!

  4. Ill prob get flamed for saying but i never use circles after losing so many fish.

We had an awesome rat bite going a few weeks ago and i lost four fish! These were all solid hooked and after a few runs 'dropped' the hooks.

Switched to hoodlum j's and no issue, maybe its my technique but defo were not working out for me.

P.S. you are doing well to hook three kings!

  5. Both times at north head.

Its a catch 22 you need to run big drag to stop them running TOO quickly but both times we struggled to get the rod out of the holder.

DR at 10m in 20m only leaves 10 which the kings hit pretty quick! We have realised that we may need to drive them out or free spool next time.

Only a matter of time before we boat one. we have learnt so much DR north and south head as you spend all the time looking at the sounder.

Its like a switch you hit the 20m line at both heads and the bait, weed and life shows up instantly. Stay on that line is my biggest tip.

    Cheers

  6. I was recommended by many to go 8lb bomb in the harbour. So far been smoked twice and yet to land one but enjoying learning. Have to say it pretty exciting way to fish when you finally hear the rod flick up and drag scream off!

Sorry to hijack, keep the info coming and OP let us know how you get on with the DR.

    Cheers

  7. Some good info here im also a newbie.

Was out yesterday for the second time. DR'd North and south heads. Found plenty of clear bait balls but no fish.

    Things i learnt yeaterday:

If on your own, wind the reel up in turn when pulling up the bomb if you dont want tangles.

When using live bait dont stop for too long or he will swim around the bomb for more bloody tangles.

Follow the 20m line at both heads. only rig deeper than 10m if you dare as there are some pinnacles that appear quickly even at 2 knots!

Dont connect the bomb over the water, bring it on deck....almost dropped it. :)

I really need a four stroke as the fumes were killing me.

Does everyone finbthe fish first before deploying the rigger? Or did i waste two hours?

    Hope this helps.

  8. Wow i thought it was just me. I wasted a spool of PE in one weekend cutting out bloody wind knots. As above switched to power pro 6lb and lovin it, you can get it online for dirt cheap too.

  9. Nice, did the same with my old man. He is 62 and biggest fish prior was a bream!

How wide are you going tomorrow?

We are heading out from Botany. We are 2-0 this season on the marlin, hopefully tomorrow is THE day!
