  1. Hi all I have been fortunate fishing on mates boats the last few years with some awesome trips. However they all now have young families and priorities have changed, and i still have no boat! I'm free every Saturday as the boss works and happy to go anywhere really but partial to harbour and hawkesburuy. Will always split costs and can supply Coca cola And coffee as I work for CCA. Have my own gear and always respect the captain and help clean boat and fish afterwards. Feel free to PM me for a chat, would be also good to meet locals as I'm new to the Inner west. Cheers Paul
  2. Thanks guys. Never made it these spots as the Captain had other 'ideas' but beggers can't be choosers! Started in one of the bays off Cowan to get my technique down and to my surprise landed a monster leather jacket on my second cast! Unfortunately it was donuts all day until fianlly landed my first flatty in JB flats in the afternoon. Although it was undersized it was very rewarding and SP's are definitely addictive. One thing I didn't budget for was the cost of having my plastics bit in half so frequently, am I doing something wrong? Will be in the harbour next week, can anyone recommend plastic and jig head for chasing the Kings? cheers Paul
  3. Hi all My mate and I have been successfully fishing the Hawkesbury over the last two years and having a ball. The time has come for us to try our luck with soft plastics..... tomorrow! From what i have gathered from advise, forums and understanding i have the following setup: 1 - 3kg 7" Daiwa spin matic Shimano sienna 2500 6lb Fireline 10lb patypus platnium leader 1/16oz and 1/8oz jig heads assorted 80mm wrigglers and 100mm shads we will be targeting bream and flathead and would like to know the best places to start. We normally launch from apple tree and cruise around cowan, juno and brooklyn. Is there any region you would recommend for an SP newbie to start flicking? Also any relevant advice would be very much appreciated. Might see you out tomorrow! cheers Paul
  4. hey mate that school was salmon. We spent all afternoon yesterday chasing them from Juno point back to almost brooklyn! Was a few boats in the hunt, all that could be heard was grown men giggling like school kids. Kept 4 big ones and left when our arms were sore and storm was rolling in. One of the best sessions i have ever had, will get some pics up. cheers Paul
  5. JB returned nothing for us last Friday night. On the same night good reports were had of Waratah bay. Only issue is there were so many boats you could walk across them! Won't get out this weekend, but interested to hear reports. Good luck! cheers Paul P.S. We launch at apple tree.
  6. Well you did better than me, I got no bites! Didn't get out till 11pm fri night, few hours at JB but no joy. just reading successful hairtail reports in WB that night. kicking myself as we drove passed beacause it was so busy, now we know why! Just makes me hungrier for that first hairtail, may return once feeling returns to my toes....
  7. check, check ,check and check! will report back tomorrow with news, either way good or bad...
  8. Will do mate, be good to share info as i spend a lot of time there and still learning! I'm mormally in my mates blue 80's savage piece of crap with ancient 50hp Evinrude. Can be identified with peeling paint, ripped bimini and esky full of fish. Does the job though!
  9. Game on! So where is a good spot for red fin in NSW? Spent time in lake lyall but no red fin yet.... cheers Paul
  10. Outgoing tide no good? Ill be out tonight, will keep you updated... cheers Paul
  11. Think next time I'll just use the lower half of my beach rod, thought it was just me!
  12. ha thanks mate! i would like to say it put up a good fight but if I'm honest the 12ft of rod dulled the experience. the biggest challenge was getin it up onto the 10ft of rock ledge. i have caught salmon half hat size on the boat and they just run and run, may be it was old and lazy?
  13. Great catch and great report! newbie question, but will the jackets just chew through the line??? Any particular colour? Ouch that braid aint cheap... cheers Paul
  14. Hi guys I'm heading out to cowan tomorrow to chase the hairies. Also had no luck sourcing red glow sticks, but got several green/yellow ones. Can you let me know if you get some locally? cheers Paul
  15. Ha, unusual thats a nice way to put it! Its because I'm an idiot and cut the wrong end to kill/bleed the fish. I'm known for being a cluts and got bit by a large chopper tailor last week, I'm constantly entertaining the boys... Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
  16. hi guys long time listener, first time caller! My name is Paul, and I live in Sydney's inner west. I have always been a massive fishing enthusiast at the mercy of my father. God bless him it is was not until I grew up and went out on my own that I realised you can catch fish! A mate and I have done the rounds in Sydney rock fishing, resulting in my PB Australian salmon of 74cm woo hoo! Recently things have really ramped up since my mate bought a boat. Best thing is he is single (unlike me) and is allowed out every weekend. In fairness to the Mrs I get out MOST weekends and spend most of our time on the Hawkesbury and Sydney harbour mostly. We must be doing something right as in over a year we have never returned without a table fish. Mostly trevally and tailor lately in the hawkesbury along with pest sharks/rays/eels. recently learning the art of trout and blackfishing and lovin it also, Lithgow is gorgeous thsi time of year! Summer was great trolling for bonnies/tuna and chasing the kingies in the harbour. We have a great spot but have been busted off three times, yet to pop my kingie cherry! Basically i am hear to socialise and learn as much as possible. I realise the more i learn, the more I need to learn. Can you ever know it all? My mate is great but we hit up the same spots on the same rigs and same bait to catch the same fish every week. i am a theroy guy and enjoy the technicalities behind catching different species. i want to learn how, when, where and more importantly WHY! So anyway thats me in a nutshell, so far so good but I want to take the game further. I don't have any fancy gear as+_+_) gear has lasted me this long but prove me wrong! I work for CCA and happy to trade drinks for local knowledge anytime. Nice to meet you all, I'll be out in Cowan tomorrow night, freezing my ass off, chasing my first hairy! Any tips??????????????????? Few quick pics attached, hope they are worthy. cheers Paul
