  1. Hahah lol @ rigga. Monster snapper for Sydney, must have been a handful? Only paid 40 odd for roast snapper in the city last week, enjoy!
  2. Great job mate, nothing like cracking a new species. Keep them coming!
  3. Not being negative but I am yet to get a single fish on mine. Fish HR and Berwora regularly successfully with SP but no joy on the vibes. Ill also put my hand up for advice! Cheers Paul
  4. Appreciate the kind words all. Still re running that catch in my head, those barnacles certainly had me worried. I can only imagine what a Jew or king must feel like! Was a beautiful fish, never seen big blue lips like it and dark black fins. Did her justice though we are both stuffed and now the mrs believes in the parmie chicken! Can't beat the light gear for a buzz, I really need to buy a second graphite rod. As for the chicken well it clearly is very effective, especially on a jig head. Lol Read your report Mack attack,, great job on the Rosie jew. look out I'll be out chasing the Jews soon!
  5. This one is for all your land based fishos! I don't own a boat and hate rock fishing so thought I would try Roseville brige this weekend. I normally fish Narrabeen but needed a change and was keen to give the chicken parmie a go too. As it turned out I slept it out and missed the Roseville tide, doh! After doing the household chores I had a couple of hours to spare so headed to my fave flatty spot in Narrabeen. Was a beautiful afternoon but fairly quiet and a little windy. Two hours later the sun was going down and I had zero except a few hits. It was at this stage I started making promises to myself and in desperation thought "If I get a keeper I'll throw it back" Another few casts and whack! onto a nice 40cm flatty. True to my word I put him back and returned to flick that same spot again. First cast followd an even bigger Whack and bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! After a few runs I managed to beach a 55cm flatty. Being 100m out with no net I literally had to walk him back to beach it, I was sweating! With the sun setting I returned home thinking "would I had caught that second fish if I hadnt returned the first???" The mind wobbles! Sunday morning I woke up on time and set off to Roseville with my Parmie chicken. My Mrs telling me I was "fooking mad" (shes irish) for using chicken. Baited up my 10lb bait rig and let the chicken soak while I setup mu SP rod. Almost immediately I was getting hits and landed a few small bream. I spotted a nice eddy forming but couldn't cast far enough with the heavier 10lb line. Being the lazy s**t I am I decided to put some chicken on my trusty 6lb SP outfit in an attempt to cast further. Yes thats right I put parmie chicken onto a 3/0 1/4oz TT jig head! First cast and bullseye slap bang in the eddy next to the barnacles, beauty this was looking good. Let it sink, sink, sink.........tap tap tap BANG! Dead weight at first and the 3kg rod buckled over. Gave the rod a lift and bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! My little Okuma Trio was singing! Backed off the drag a little and gave her some run thinking it could be a jew. The line headed towards the barnacles and I thought it was all over red rover. Tightened the drag, turned its head and got a few reels in but was off again. That Okuma Trio surely sings a sweet note! Managed to get some line in and after a few more short bursts I saw the big blue lips. Had no net but swung it in and was cheering (on my own) with everyone else looking at me. A passer by came over and took a photo, this was easily my PB bream. He returned 10 min later with his mate who had a lip grip and measure. She went 43cm and 1.6kg! On that note I packed up and went home as I couldn't have topped that. In all honesty a little piece of me wishes I put the big girl back. BUT I was out for a feed and I got that and then some. Cooked her up with fennel, white wine and spring onion stuffing. YUM YUM! Sorry for the long winded story but have put in so many hours lately. GREAT to see it finally pay off following the tides and 'laws' for each species of fish. Thanks for reading, and remember no boat no worries! cheers Paul
  6. Agreed. Find a good spot start flicking around the weeds and drop offs and if nothing in 30min move on. If flatties are there they will take almost any plastic that lands near them. Sounds airy fairy but once you get your "confidence" up with sp you will start to catch fish and learn very quickly.
  7. Well if anyone knows of anything available in this price range shoot me a PM and I'll owe you a beer.
  8. I would be very happy with a good oldy runabout for 5ish if its possible. Don't mind an ugly old girl if it's reliable and in good nick. My mates first runabout was a glass junker that literally looked ready for the dump, it lasted three years, was out every week and we caught every species in every area of Sydney, great memories! Any specific makes to look out for? Half cabin or cuddy would be great for overnighters in summer but is that achievable in this price range? Appreciate the advice.
  9. Great read guys. I'll be looking for my first boat after our wedding in September (looking now but don't tell her) and would like some similar advice: Is it better to buy a good tinny or cheap runabout? Will a decent tinny get out in the harbour safely? By good tinny I mean over 4 meters, wide deep hull with decent 30hp four stroke. Aiming for around 6k ish. There are some great bargains around already from fisherman who are upgrading. So most of them are ready to roll with sounder, rod holders, tanks, bait board etc.
  10. Great conversation! My yakkas have been bigger than my catch lately so I could be trying this. Hooked one up last week and I was like get the net!
  11. Totally agree with both all this info. Personally my most successful colors have been wrigglers/grubs in bloodworm and watermelon and fish/shads in nuclear chicken and pearl white.
  12. That's a great help thanks very much, let's hope the water is warm for a little longer!
  13. Great, thanks for the advice. I'm always happy to go for a drive as my second love is cars so win win really. Just checked out google maps and it is a massive stretch, can you recommend where or which end to start? Thanks again.
  14. Hi all I'm after some direction for land based flats in Sydney. I am only aware of Narrabeen lake and I'm over it. Could someone recommend any spots in Sydney for a good land based SP flick? Thanks Paul
  15. Wow scary read but could have been so much worse your very lucky. Good on you for the PFD, hopefully someone will learn from this.
  16. The ultimate flatty by-catch, great job on light gear
  17. Flatty fillets my favorite! Did the big girl give you a good run? What rig do you use for the poddies? Never used poddies but keen to try the technique. Thanks Paul
  18. Thanks all I do love the flatties! Agree the bloodworm wrigglers are awesome but hard to get hold of with their popularity. Ain't had much luck with the squishy fish maybe it's my technique or lack of. 80cm that's a big girl, did you land that on 6lb??

150g a month is that right?! That wouldnt even be a good feed.
  22. Great thanks for the tips! Excuse my ignorance but which side is the "oil thingy" and "upstream"? What's the best way to access land based? Thanks again, PM if the info is sensitive!
  23. Great read, glad to hear I'm not the only one with donuts lately. Have to agree its great just to get out, the Aussie lifestyle really is awesome. Hang in there and be sure to post pics of the Nepean trout when you find it!
  24. Didnt measure but the esky lid is 55cm. Would say 60ish, should clarify these are my PB for the lake only. The one I dropped would have been 70+. Saw some huge flatty marks in the sand today even bigger. Oh and the biggest I have ever seen in my life swam past me last week in the weeds, really did look like a croc and scared the crap out of me! Sat about three feet away from me but I had a bloody surface lure on and wouldnt go near it.
  25. Great job, nice selection of fish there!
