  1. Thanks! Heres to many more but weather aint gonna last.
  2. Hi all I don't normally post fishing reports but I know a lot of you fish the lakes regularly. I have invested a LOT of time this summer into the lakes and it has finally paid off. I can now quite reliably find the flatties and these two are my PB. Have to admit it was not rocket science just stuck to the flatty 'rules' and put the time in. Got them on 2 inch berkley grub in watermelon by far my most potent flatty SP. Dropped a MUCH larger lady at my feet when she shook through my 6lb leader, doh! Had a few blazing bream runs but spat my (too) large 3/0 hook. As mentioned I have spent a lot of time here getting to know the lake. Mostly Saturday mornings and Thursday arvos after work but atleast twice a week. Have to say I am absolutely hooked on the lake, wading around with the sun rising or setting, just bliss! Oh and I live in Concord so not close either. I would be more than happy to offer advice on the lake but please respect spot 'X' as my own. Even better would be to share some secrets as I would love to find some new land based SP spots in Sydney. Took a drive to Roseville bridge after the lake today and it was like the first day at school, where do I start? Anyway typing too much but feel free to PM me and would LOVE to learn more about Sydney land based SP locations. cheers Paul
  3. Hi all I'm solo this weekend and keen for an early SP session tomorrow if anyone is available. Normally fish Narrabeen but I'm over it and happy to go anywhere. Also happy to join a boat session and pay me way. PM if keen. cheers Paul
  4. I'll be the tall guy with the whinging mrs, come pick me up!
  5. Taking the MRS for a "drive" to Windang tomorrow and will conveniently have the flick stick in the back. Most people recommend the south side of the bridge, anywhere in particular? Will be wading out chasing flatties for Good Friday dinner! Thanks and Happy Easter everyone.
  6. Hey raiders after chatting to a local at Narrabeen last week I decided to purchase a 3B prawn dog surface lure. Seeing his success I will give it a go tomorrow and would like to know the best retrieve to use? I hope to be as successful with the bream tomorrow as I was with the flatties last week. As always any advice would be great! Happy to trade flatty tips for bream advice in this area.
  7. At the end of the day what works for one person wont work for the next. I find 30lb on almost locked drag with 60lb quality leader will turn most kings. Lets not forget its the structure that kills you with the kings. If you cant turn them quick enought then even 200lb line wont help you on reef. My 2c, lets discuss Oh if I could afford a Tiagra or a saltist i would buy one. To date just buying the best gear i can afford......and so far so good!
  8. I finally decided on a Shimano baitrunner B 4500 for my 30lb king setup. Scored this for $185 with a Shimano rod (cant remember name) for $185. Guy in store agreed they have had multiple failures with the D series baitrunner. Also at this store they had a two hour fishing seminar with two pro's that I got a LOT out of, awesome! PM me for details, or can I mention the store here?
  9. That's a shame mate but thanks a mill for the feedback. I am or was in the process of buying a d baitrunner for this very purpose. Can you still buy the b series? Cheers Paul
  10. Thanks guys, I have read that the TLD reels are not appropriate for use with braid, is this accurate? I need something heavy to turn around kings quickly and for trolling tuna also. Will prob buy a 25 for this purpose on mono and a shimano baitrunner for braid bottom bouncing. Thoughts?
  11. Hi guys This trip was in January but I try to get out most Thursday arvos. Will post up again next time in out. Would be great to share notes on the lake as it has been hit an miss for me Cheers Paul
  12. Great price, where did you pick that up?
  13. Join the club, bream are the toughest to crack on sp in my opinion. Recently had success at narrabeen lake and it's worth the wait they fight hard on light gear! Best tips would be to go light as possible to suspend the sp as long as possible, I use 6lb and 1/16 jig head. Once on the bottom pause longer as this is when they will most likely hit. Keep an eye on the line as you will see the twitch before you feel it with the slack line. Bream will have a pick before they swallow it so give them time and strike when the rod bends over and hang on. Hope this helps and most importantly don't give up, even legal bream will go hard! Cheers Paul
  14. These reels look great but out of my price range unfortunately, bloody wedding is a money vacuum lately!
  15. Is there much risk in purchasing a used tld from online shop? I would only buy local that I can see for myself but there are some great bargains already with backbone rods. I would imagine the tld would be quite serviceable? Or could these be ex charter and had a hard life? So many questions!
  16. Hi all I'm in the market to but my first overhead reel. This will be used offshore for Tuna, kings etc with 30lb to 50lb mono. I don't want to spend more then 200 if i can help it and have narrowed it down to a shimano tld 20 or an okuma solterra 20. Could anyone offer advise on this purchase? Also a suitable rod? There are some good deals on the shimano backbone that look really nice! Help greatly appreciated. Cheers Paul
  17. As long as you bleed and cut out the blood meat they are great to eat. Big ones make huge fillets that are great to shnitzel!
  18. Hey mate I have some good experience around hawkesbury, broken bay, pittwater if you need company. Cheers Paul
  19. I own both but have not had the op to use either for kings. X raps are my fave hard body, yet to have any joy with the popper.
  20. I'm still learning the lake but can be hit and miss. Got two lovely bream thur arvo but was out all afternoon yesterday for nothing. That's fishing I guess and keps us wanting more!
  21. Think I will take a leaf out of your book and upgrade my gear. I have been using a 10kg rod with 6000 reel and 30lb mono, no wonder I have been getting smoked lol! Lost some BIG fish last week and still hurting. So how did they taste?
  22. Agreed. I love the okuma bait runners but I only use the big ones 60 and up. I use an okuma trio 20 with 6lb for 90% of my fishing and it's beautiful, smooth and has great drag. Cost 70 bucks delivered!
  23. Wow nice catch mate great job! Still waiting for my first king, have been busted off every time this summer. Do you mind I ask what size rig you were using? Cheers Paul
  24. Very hard to beat shimano but I rate Okuma very high. Hard to beat as a value for money offering plus a lifetime warranty is awesome. I have a trio and a salina and will be ordering a big corondona bait feeder next week for the kings.
