  1. C'mon raiders I really need some help !!
  2. IF its not still covered by warranty n that this is what you do ! Find yourself some fine wet n dry sand paper !! Almost as fine as u can get and basically wet an lightly sand the nick in ur spool ! Sand it with water till its smooth and won't give u line resistance when you cast ! That's about it I had to do it on one of the spools on my reels n works perfectly !! Jus remember the less u can sand the better it is
  3. Hey mate, yes I've been fishing the drop offs n holes I know and also been exploring alot of new fishy looking spots ! And yes I do fish alot lighter on the boat ! I generally fish 2 setups for the George's I have a 6lb setup to flick lures and lightly weighted prawns for bream n flatties and I use a 20lb SP setup for bigger lures and bigger baits ! I don't use any heavier then that on the boat as i haven't landed anything worthy of heavier gear ! I'm not sure if it's just winter cause I've been fishing hard since summer n even though summer was more productive, sessions should have been alot better !
  4. Mate i got this feeling my boats cursed lol. When i fished georges landbased did really well Jewies and good bream where a regular occurance. Now that i fish from the boat it seems like they dont wanna play. I just really need advice on how to fish an area with the boat and how to drift spots and to anchor properly and how to set a proper burley trail and then fishing into it etc etc. I know sometimes the fish just wont play, but countless outtings for zero is starting to really annoy me. Its not just the ammount I spend on fuel, bait, gear, food etc etc its also the time and effort. So many freezing cold mornings and nights ive fished hard for nothing. It was like when i was chasing my first jew, except I got a result in the end 1m+ jewy from the georges. But this whole boat situation has got me going backwards. Raiders I need your help !
  5. Honestly I thought there was a rule made by fisheries that if you did catch a carp it was to be killed and disposed and not returned to the water it was caught in because its a pest. Or is it not a rule just common sence to get rid of pests to help save our native marine species?
  6. G'Day Raiders, As the title describes I need some help with fishing. Basically in the last 5-6 sessions on the boat, actually every session on the boat, has been horrid. No good fish to show for it. So Im basically asking if anyone is keen to help me out. I mainly fish the georges river as its my local and can get there fairly quickly and easily. Ive been fishing with peeled prawns for bream and whiting, fresh squid and frozen squid for jew and if possible i try and get live mullet for bait, but that usually goes pear shaped and end up with zeros in the poddy trap. Id also love to learn to fish for blackies in the georges as its prime time for these guys at the moment. I have had good success in the georges before (bream and jew) but its been a very long time since ive had a decent session. The main thing is I just got a boat and basically dont know where to fish, so me and my brother just sound around and fish countless spots. Sometimes we even end up down in Botany cause we have travelled that far. We go off what we know from fishing shows (trust me i watch heaps). Like all the different structure and drop offs and holes but yet we seem to fail. I have done so much better fishing landbased than on our new boat which kinda sux as we got the boat thinkin our fishing should be a lot better now. So the plea goes out to our fishraider mates to see if they can help out a fisho in need. Cheers in advanced guys, Jez
  7. Yeah bro u know moving house this weekend what better way to feed the moving crew then with a lovo and beers
  8. Yeah u can remove the seeds to kill the heat but we love the heat in our family usually go to small skinny red ones as there hot but have a nice aeromatic sweet flavor behind them goes well with the coconut cream Hehe give it a go bud I know u will love it !! Also good Lil twist I use sometimes is mix a bit of sliced onion and small amount of curry powder basically to just change the colour of the dish !! This gives it jus enough flavor without changing the original flavours of the dish dramatically and it is absolute dynamite !! Enjoy mate I know I will
  9. Hehehe I know exactly what your talking about my mum makes it all the time !! I'm half Samoan half Fijian indian !! In Fijian we call it "Kokonda" but exactly the same made but sometimes substitute the peppers for fresh red chillis !! But I tell u know can't get a better raw fish recipe mate !! Big of Ota ika, Kalo and polusami and we are in business heheh his from reading this post I called my mum about it she's making it this weekend for me for dinner oh how sweet this is heheheh
  10. Yeah I was hoping I'd hook a specimen around the 70cm mark to test out the new setup but this was definately a bigger fish n ontop of that not much experience chasing big fish so that's the 2 factors that lost the fish cause I tell u now that hook is still in its gob !!
  11. Hehehe yes experience plays a vital key in landing good fish !! Hehehe glad you enjoyed the read mate
  12. G'day raiders, Not the greatest report but a report non the less. Headed out with my brother yesterday to botany bay armed with bought squid, pillies, prawns and lures. Never really fished the area so basically used the sounder to find fish ! We drove around sounding out different markers, buoys, drums etcetc basically anything floating in the water was our potential fishing spot! Found a few markers holding some bait near bear island so we decided to setup a drift past the markers. Rigged up a nice beefy squid strip on my 20lb shimano Aernos 4500 and a prawn on my 6lb daiwa procaster 2500 ! My brother setup with cubed pillies on his 6lb gear and the game was on !! 40mins in on consistent drifts past the same marker n bam my Aernos screams rod buckles over n I call it for a king !! After a decent 10min fight the biggest port Jackson shark I have ever caught comes up !! Great but not what I'm after removed the hooks n set him free !! As I've released old porty my brothers rid buckles over and starts to scream !! He holds on for dear life as his Lil outfit is getting owned by the fish !! SNAP!!! Gone mate!!!!!! Few colorful words later n baits back in the water for our final drift landed another porty that was released n now we decided we need a change of spots !! So in our Lil 3.85m runabout we decided to head out towards the heads n fish the point !! Found some good showings on the sounder so dropped our baits again !! Within 3mins of the bait being in the strike zone I get a bump then ZzZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....zzZzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz !! This fish hooked me I didn't hook it the little Aernos was taking a flogging !! So got my bro to bring in all Rods n start chasing this fish !! A minute later as the motor had cranked over I could feel the 20lb fc leader rubbing on the rocks!! C'mon don't snap I'm praying .... Snap !!! Game over fish 1 Jez 0 !! By this stage the wind had turned n swell was on its way up fast so we quickly packed up n heading back in fished the hot water outlet for a 35cm flounder which got dropped at the boat n a few slimy Mack which went out as live bait for 0 !! Hmm all in very decistate lost what I thought would have been my first LEGAL or even decent size king !! Oh well next will have a go! "Note to self, always take out the big gear because snapper outfits aren't meant for big kings" Anyways my rant is over I mean report lol I didn't take any pics nothing worth picturing! Hope you guys enjoyed the read Cheers, Jez
  13. Oh I see, apparently there's squid under the spit, try drifting the pilons !! There's an article somewhere in here reguarding the spit and squid, check it out ! I don't fish that area much at all but when I do balmoral is where I go for livies never tried anywhere else !
  14. Squid n yakkas balmoral wharf !! Get there really really early to avoid getting in the way of all the early morning joggers !!! Usually jus drop the jig right near te pilons for yakkas but once there on you will get a bucket full quick smart !! Squid is all around the wharf and between the beaches off the rocks !! Fish a small squid jig to sink slow as its not that deep only around 3-5m !! Hope this helped mate !! JeZ
  15. I second that salted pillies are the bees knees for yakkas !! They burly well causing a nice slick and also because there alot firmer they hold together alot better when u need to chop up a fillet for the bait jig and they actually STAY on the hook
  16. Pm me !! I might have a spare copy or I'll ask if he has any left !! Cheers, Jez
  17. Hey mate I didn't go to any online fishing store or nothing of the sort I went down to my local tackle store for my gear !! Rod cost around $120, reel was around $170 and the braid I used was around $50 for 150m !! Might be a bit pricey but the owner knows me well and always fixes me up if I have any problems !! For example snapped a really expensive plastics rod around 7months ago only had it for a week (I broke it in the car) took it back in and he replaced it with a brand new one no charge or questions asked !! IMO its a decent combo for the price but I dont know till I've used it heheh hence main reason for my post lol !! And yeah mate the Aernos XT is a really smooth ! Can't say much more lol but hopefully it pulls up some cracker fish !! Cheers guys, Jez
  18. Hey raiders !! Over the weekend managed to get to the tackle store for a splurge !! Thought I would go have a look at some new rods and reels n everything else in the store lol I'm sure everyone knows what I mean !! Cut a long story short ended up walking out there with a new combo, very exciting ! (misses wasn't as impressed) !!! I got myself a Shimano Ballistix Pro in a 7ft 6-10kg matched with a Shimano Aernos XT 4000 with 20lb American braid (can't remember the brand name but it's very thin but strong) !! Jus wanted to know if anyone had used this combo or used the rod or reel and what they thought of the combo !! I'm looking at doin heavy sp fishing for Jews and smaller kings so any advice would be great !! I'll attach some pics for you guys !! Cheers, Jez
  19. When I click the link for the vid says I need to enter a password to watch it :s
  20. Hahahaha secret nobody else knows PE lol !!! Or where u talking about the PE on your reel hehee
  21. Jus wondering on how you went about cooking them up ? Also did they come out trumps ?
  22. Done !! Quite surprising knowing some lines break under 4lb and many well over 4lb !! Also the difference in braid n mono n the diameter !! Should do well mate good luck with ur studies !!
  23. Well done a great first jewy and a good session with your mate !! Awesome report and well played !! Hope you keep your luck stream up n u nail a few more beautiful stinky silver slabs heheh Cheers, Jez
  24. I do have a couple of soft plastics n small hard bodies n small poppers etc etc but I really only brought them cause they looked awesome but never really fished with them except once I used a surface hardbody n nailed 15 30cm-35cm tailor in under 20minutes, awesome fun !! 90% of the time I fish off my little boat cruising up n down the George's searching for good looking fishing spots !! So no problem there only problem is the flatties don't wanna play with my gear ... N it's only 6lb braid with 8-10lb FC leader !!
  25. Lol there might be something wrong with me !! But I fish the George's ALOT few times a week if possible plus weekends! I usually fish fresh prawns and live bloodworms sometimes tubes if I can't get the bloods! I have NEVER caught a keeper flattie in the George's ! I remember fishing landbased n nailing 2 undersized flatties n they are the only 2 flatties I have ever produced from the Georges n they where jus babies ! I fish from deep water all the way down to botany bay if it's a good day but usually stay between deep water and Como fishing all along ! I can't seem to get flatties! I get good bream good whiting even sometimes hook soapie Jew with prawns and worms but never the flattie ! Any help/tips to improve my flattie fishing would be awesome guys ! Cheers, Jez
