  1. If you're talking about the lake inside Bicentenial Park, then yes, they're definitely carp. Its a bit of a paradox having a "no fishing" sign next to a lake full of carp. But I'm sure that its been banned for health reasons.
  2. Not the side with Birkenhead point... =] I've armed myself with some hb lures now... Lets hope the rain stops sometime soon...
  3. Went under the Iron Cove bridge yesterday morning just before the run out tide with my first packet of Gulps. I decided not to use them first and started flicking a clear grub for the first 30 minutes without much luck apart from getting a few hits from some chopper tailor... It got to a point when I was I was hoping one of them would bite the tail off my grub just so I could switch over to one of these gulps... Several casts later my prayers were answered... but not in the way I hoped... the 6lb leader malfunctioned and the jig and grub went into the water without any line attatched to it. I tied on a new jighead and out came the gulp 3" fry. I did a test cast in close just to see its action... it didnt exactly have swim or wriggle action like a squidgie... it just sank vertically and darted around in random directions when i flicked the rod tip... I didnt exactly find my prospects promising, but after a couple of casts, I was getting hits but my drag wasnt tight enough... not long after setting the drag with the right amount of tension I hook on to my first trevally on SP... Back he went after a quick photo and for the next hour I was getting constant hits and hooked several flatties of varying sizes... nothing huge but still fun on light gear... and one awesome sight was to see a couple of flathead following the jig all the way to the surface... A few flatheads later, I noticed the 6lb leader was getting a bit worn... I should have retied the jig but was lazy and not long after that... something hits the jig hard and the leader malfunctions again... With the bite being so hot, I decided to give the clear grubs another chance... which resulted in a couple more flathead and some chopper tailor... which eventually chewed off the tail... Being satisfied with my results, I called it a day... All fish were released to fight another day...
  4. Congrats on landing a fish of a lifetime!! Awesome report as well...
  5. Yep... that definitely sounds like squid.
  6. Congrats on joining the club. Go the humble pilchard!!
  7. Are you referring to the superfluous dorsal fin just below Man's chin?
  8. Ah spewin!! I missed it too!! How did you guys go?
  9. Which beach? I should be able to join you guys...
  10. I'm assuming that the Yarra bay jetty is the groyne/breakwall. I wouldnt be suprised if groper didnt hang around there because it has an abundance of red rock crab. I used to catch my crabs there before heading out to the ocean ledges to fish for groper because it was alot safer and have caught a couple of red groper from that groyne some years back. EDIT Reference to non allowed equipment [mod]
  11. I've caught a few of them myself when fishing for jews.
  12. Awesome catch! Maybe you should have put one more bait down just to confirm if he was really suicidal or had friends with him.
  13. WOW!! What a thumper on such light gear!! Congrats on landing it!
  14. Ceph, I think you're lucky that your "valuable tackle" comes surgically attatched otherwise it'd end up in the drink as well... Sounds like you had a top day out on the water though!
  15. Well done on your first SP bream!
  16. Sounds like a pretty decent fish... pity he got away but at least you got him to the boat and had a good look at him.
  17. Spewing! How big do you estimate the Jewie to be?
  18. Hmmmm... A prophylactic on ganged pillies off Maroubra Beach...
