  3. I went out yesterday of Botany Bay to the sth canyons. We set the spread at 200 fathoms water temperature 19.5 head east water lifted to 21.9 at 800 fathoms. Then traversed SE back to the 200 fathom line. We caught one 8kg yellow fin early in 400 fathoms temperature 19.8. a few other boats caught around this location. Radio was busy with sizable fish at the Kiama canyons. lots of birds flying around didn't see any bait. Traveled 110 NM. Long day dogbox

  6. Hi Raiders hoping to start a thread that talks about any new attempts to better your catch. I am have been a traditional buy your bait and stick it on your hook fisherman for most of my life. Ive tried soft plastics but I cant get used to it. i respect those who do it. But a few months ago I went fishing with a guy who introduced me to his home made micro jigs. I was impressed that his micro jigs where made of some of the items out of the dump bin at the tackle shop and stuff from spot light. These caught fish. So i started thinking about how I might make improvements to how I fish using bait and lowering my fishing costs. The cost can get pretty expensive. The last few months I've been playing around with using inexpensive items that are quick and easy to assemble that I can say "have improve the number of fish I've been catching." Here is a picture of a something I have added to my paternoster rig, a plastic squid, a bead to shape the head and a 5/0 or 7/0 hook, I still use a small amount of bait on the hook as an attractant but even when it falls off the squid attracts the fish. Ill have to keep experimenting with different colours and see what works best for different species Is anyone else have any experiment ideas? dogbox
  7. Great report i love a good snapper session dogbox
  8. Went out with my wife Monday sth Port Hacking after reading a Fishradiers report about the Flathead on the chew. On the water at 10am, Water temp 20.5, little westerly wind, no swell. Freezing cold I barely thread the line through the hook eye. We did four drifts from the 30m to 45m depth and by 1 o'clock we had we had reach our bag limit. The average size was 50cm with a few 70cm models. What made this trip different the number of small Flathead where nonexistent. Did a quick trawl around the cliffs for a O, plenty of bait and birds around. dogbox

    Tuna Oil

I started experimenting with burly about 20 years ago and used tuna oil but after years of trialing various methods i no longer use it. Instead I now use burly that is mixed according to what i want to catch. When i go river fishing for bream i use chicken pelts with sand and mashed up hawkesbury prawns in an onion bag . When i go snapper fishing I use chicken pellets with smashed pilchards or mackerel mixed in. Whatever your burly mix make sure it reflex the bait your using to what you want to catch. Your local fish monger maybe able to help you with additional supplies to add to the mix Dogbox

  21. Went out on Sunday with my mate Nathan in his 5.5m fiberglass Turn out of the harbor through the heads took a wave over the nose we both questioned if we would continue to the shelf. Persistence paid off and we started a spread at 300m trolled around the car park at browns listening to channel 21 sounds like some great catches on the bottom and plenty of sharks in the chum trails. Headed SSE zig zagging looking for bait or blips on the sounder at about 15nm from Browns we elected to head east just after 11am the water temp increased from 19.9 to 20.3-4. The shot goes OFF!!!!! the biggest rod real set on the boat bent over 90 degrees, we both looked at each other with a stair that seem like an eternity. Then the brain started working and we knew we had to get happening, get the other lines in store the rods out of the way, wheres the belt, all while the reels screaming taking line !!! Then who's going to suite up for this, neither of us wanted the responsibility of loosing it. Nathan steps up, belts up and cant get the rod out of the holder, together we eventuate all set up, Fight on!!! Next 30 minutes of stand up fishing sloppy seas driving back and forth port to starboard fish planning down letting line out driving away WATCH THE PROP!!! it was all going down. Nathan "get the gaff i have colour" I pull the gaff out "u call that a gaff" that's for landing a 4kg salmon. Then it happen BIRDS NEST we got one chance to get this fish Nathan wraps his hand around the leader halls the fish to the surface I go in with the gaff, GAFF in fish shaking mad, both of us wrestling on the side of the boat we landed it "EPIC" absolute high lite of my life. 35 kg YFT Dogbox
