I’ve been thinking the same thing as you on a much smaller scale with my boat.I thought many times about going from my very basic 30hp 2 stroke to a 40 yammy(I’m not interested in anything else).I owe $0 on my boat and a yammy is like 10k there abouts.10k buys alof of fuel. I service my whole carby, fuel pump, impeller ,plugs with a 10 and 12mm spanner a flat head screwdriver and a pair of pliers, and a spark plug tool or even a shifter. in short they can keep the 40. Talking electric cars again I don’t owe anything on my Kia and hilux and service both myself doesn’t cost me a dime more than my parts I buy. Again just a basic electric is 40k+.That’s a lot of fuel and don’t you worry the government will make up for the petrol sales lost with a ev tax that will keep going up like the ridiculous tolls have over the years. Agsin they can keep their evs for now.I’m fully aware their will come a time when anything you buy from mowers to cars will be electric.

It’s a mugs game not doing what your saying when buying anything let alone outboards.I do it with everything even with small purchases. if I look on my phone or computer and say somethings $20 here and it’s $15 a kilometre up the road further guess who gets my $$. To add to what you’re saying on outboards I’d be researching how much each costs to service and price of parts like timing belts, etc.

Only way to truly find out if YOU think anything is worth it, good or bad, reliable, etc is by pulling the pin and buying/ trying it out for yourself. What I may think is great you may think is crap and vice versa.Everyone has different budgets/ expectations etc for everything in this life. At the end of the day it’s what you can afford, like and think is reliable, etc that matters. Please don’t talk kpi’s on here while I’m on holidays as I don’t want to hear that crap they spiel on with at work plus the other million things that they do.😂

And they would of said it like it’s loose change.

Certainly cheaper than a 4stroke to own and maintain.
  7. I’m doing a G4 carby rebuild tomorrow on father in-laws mower.
  8. I know the motor well as I had a mercury 18hp blue band too. I currently have 23 mowers so you can say I know my way around them.Love the cylinders, victa full crank and twins.
  9. Yes,I’ll probably use it fairly often now but yes it has been a few months.
  10. Cheers mate I’ll buy and fit one when the time comes.
  11. I’ve worked on hundreds of carbs on anything from bikes, boats, garden gear etc and out of all those times probably came across a carby that was gummed up twice.I know for a fact some of them hadn’t run for a decade or more with petrol that was that old in them and ran just by draining bowl and fresh fuel and some new dry rotted fuel lines replaced. I can tell you know that those guys that tell you if you leave fuel in a carby for a month,2 months,3 months…the fuel will evaporate and the carby will gum up are full of it.I’ve had fuel in my boats carb for probably a year or more now (I got lazy and didn’t fire it up every month or so) and I just stripped the carb and it was spotless, yes Spotless!! The fuel was old that’s it. Believe it or not it’s up to you. Never run any carb dry on anything and if you don’t use it for a period of time fire it up periodically to get things circulating and preferably either A put stabiliser in(Apparently) it helps keep fuel fresh for a year or dump it out every few months into garden gear, etc and renew.
  12. I’ll get something like this.
  13. True. I need to get out more I’ve never seen one in real life.one thing I do know is they’ve doubled in price since I looked only 3-4yrs ago.
  14. I’m looking at swing away drawbars I’ve been thinking about for a long time and finally really need as I’m short on space about half a meter for what I need to do. I don’t like the idea of cutting trailer section off and the hinge they have (added flex/wear points) but I don’t have any other option to get the half meter or so I need. Cheers.
  15. You don’t want to know my thoughts on most “fully qualified engineers mate” I know and have met. As for everything I’ve ever done in my life i ask the questions, listen to or read replies, don’t take anything that’s said as gospel and then finely find out for myself and make the final conclusion on weather it works or not. Cheers.
  16. Here goes nothing.I have my boat running perfect and know there’s nothing wrong with anything on motor or fuel related as I stripped, checked, cleaned and adjusted everything now.I’ll be out next week.
  17. I know.Basic engines will still run bad with crap fuel.
  18. There’s always one in every crowd.😂
  19. I guess it’s like reading restaurant reviews.Make your own decision when you’ve tried it yourself. Will buy some and give it a go and make my own conclusion I guess. Thanks for the comments.
  20. I am talking about adding stabiliser to a full tank of fresh fuel/oil mix to clarify.
  21. You got out there’s and had a crack.Night fishing would by my preference in heat like we’ve been having and save the daytime for lounging around in the pool cracking coldies. You end up like a fried egg in summer on boats my hat goes off to those that put up with it.
  22. Anyone used/using fuel stabilisers in their fuel and what is your experience with it? I want to start using it in my premix outboard fuel instead of tipping fuel into mowers etc. cheers.
  23. Give them to the braindead muppets a few houses up from me to add to their New Years Eve firework collection.
