  1. Hey Jayson

I believe I've met you down there before. You gave me my first SP and taught me how to use it. I'm starting to get in to the SP's a bit more. Thank you for your help!!

    Nice catch to btw!!

Are you the guy that i was fishing with when the old asian lady kept fishing over the top off us? No prob bout the plastic as long as you get as much fun out of it as i do.

  2. Nice catch man!! Never tried plastics there at night?? Can I ask what sort of plastics you use?

I use prawns mostly there... You're right about the rubbish, people should clean up after they are done.

Yeah mate 80mm Squidgy in any pattern but the best is the 3in Burkley Banana prawn with a 9grm jig head hope that helps

  3. Great session, I must say I'm surprised at the number of flatties you caught at night on plastics!

You can see them on the banks smashing the pawns so it's just a Mater if spotting them and putting a plastic on there nose. The rest is up to them but i'm not complaining.

  4. Might have to hit up Windang again soon.

Gave up on it late last year.

What time have you had most success and is it very busy?

I saw your post about the Jews also, nice work!

Yeah been trying to get there on the run out tide a there are a heaps of pawns in the run out tide. If you can get it late in the night there are less people there I find.

If you want let me no what time you head down and I'll see if the boss (wife) will let me have the night of. It would be sweet to meet a fellow raider.

  6. Your having a great run at Windang, didn't know it could produce so well. I suppose you are fishing next to the road bridge. Are you just using the usual plastics?

Too bad you didn't hook your big Jew again, I suppose that's what will keeps you fishing there.

Yeah mate it good gown there but there are and have been quiet nights down there where the 50km drive home is not worth it. But it is a beautiful place to go and just relax. The only thing that upsets me is watching all these people catching udersize fish and keeping them and leaving there rubbish behind the grubs :ranting2:

Some time for a joke i will tell them im from fisheries well you should see their face.

  7. Hay Guys went for a quick spin with a fellow raider last night in search of a 3rd Jew in as many nights. Put on a soft plastic and with the first cast bang reel starts screaming with line pouring off at a alarming rate. Thinking to my self could this be the 3rd time lucky. After a short fight with some screaming runs i land a nice bull mullet that was fowled hook. weighed it when i got home just a smidge over 2kgs my first mullet on soft plastics and i must say what a fight, it made a good count for it self.

The rest of the night was the usual of flatty after flatty. Got 17 keepers and put back to many to count. Eating fresh flathead fillets on the BBQ tonight.

And if there are any raiders who go down to windang and fish let us know would like to Catch up down there and show some or get any tips. Plus it just good to meet new people. :biggrin2:

  8. Wind strength & direction, barometric pressure, water temp, any signs of birds or bait, moon phase, stage of the tide when you got the hits & anything else you can think of!

    Cheers,

    Grant.

    Hay Grant,

Is this info what you would put down?

Temp was 8 deg and water temp was 22deg. 45% cloud cover, 8mph wind from the west. Humidity 79% and bar Pressure 1023mb. No bird activity. Hit at peak low tide with some prawns in the run out.

    Is there anything else?

    Cheers

  9. That's great news and awesome catch on the hairys. I was going to go for Jew tonight but might have to change my plans now! Mmmm bbq hairtail for origin night... Yum

Can i come over that sound awesome :D

  10. Wind strength & direction, barometric pressure, water temp, any signs of birds or bait, moon phase, stage of the tide when you got the hits & anything else you can think of!

    Cheers,

    Grant.

Thanks will do thanks for the tips

  11. Well done.

That's a good report & some nice pics.

Sounds like you had a heap of fun with some great fish caught.

To get a nice jew is a top effort. To hook a couple of more is outstanding.

Keep a dairy of the exact conditions. A run like that will happen again if the conditions line up at the same time of year.

    Cheers,

    Grant.

Thanks for the tip will do. But is there more tl then just time and tide?

  12. Hay Guys what a awesome weekend of fishing!

When down to Windang for a session after watching the Tiger's get a win in a great mood with my mate Ruki. He has never fished with soft plastics before and did really well on his first attempt. Got down to lake Illawarra around 11:30pm and the tide was starting to run out with 2 or 3 other people fishing on and around the bridge.

Got my Buddy all sorted out and gave him a few tips on what to do. Well i didn't have time to set up and he was onto his first fish. After a nice little rum he banks hi first Flatty around 50cm very happy for him. finally got a plastic in the water and landed 3 nice flattys my self then Ruki hooks up 2 casts in a row and pulls 2 nice Whiting and then a few more flatts. That is beginners luck for sure as he pulled 3 good flatts and 2 Whiting he is already planning our next session. Then all goes quiet no hits or for around 1 hour then mu little 4kg outfit pulls up tight then the little size 2000 reel starts screaming. straight away i call it my first Jewfish hooked there after years of trying. Well after a short fight that only lasted a few min (But what a first run i thought) and with the help of my buddy i land mu PB Jew at 75cm. post-20633-090157700 1337565332_thumb.jpgpost-20633-041071300 1337565355_thumb.jpg

Needless to say went home a very stoked man and a big thanks to my mate for getting his feet wet to help me land it.

Well all Saturday was smile from ear to ear when my little brother-in-law comes to me a asked me to take him fishing. Well all the gear was still in the car ready to go. So off we head around the same time same spot. First cast bang onto a nice Flatty about 50cm what a great start then the very next cast the little outfit pulls tight on something that screams off under the bridge never to be seen. Rig back up and back into the Flathead over the next few hours 9 between me and my brother-in-law. It was getting late so we agreed on a few more casts then to head. Then bang on again to something with size and the little reel screams with a massive run but this time not towards the bridge but the other way. I manage to turn this fishes head and get some line back on the spool. Then off it goes again with another run this time at the bridge but manage to stop it after about 10 mins i could see silver flashing in in the water. Its another Jew and bigger then last nights PB whoot whoot. I thought that i had him beat with it in the shallows next to the sand bank. Well time to get the feet (Sorry Ruki that water was freezing) stupid me rushing to land the fish and i do the number 1 no no and grab the leader which was only 12Lb. and with 1 head shake it snapped and i watched this beautiful fish disappear back into the murky water. My little brother said maybe around 90cm i also think the same maybe around 8kgs. Just upset i couldn't get a photo for you guys. But hay 2 Jews in 2 nights i can not complain and can not wait to get back there.

Here is a photo of that nights Flatt's post-20633-070703900 1337565653_thumb.jpg

This is what the jewfish ended up as thanks to my father-in-law post-20633-094673200 1337580493_thumb.jpg

  13. Nice work on the Boniton mate. Very good quality Sashimi if bled and iced right away.

Another tip mate, spend time collecting Bonito for bait. I have caught solid Jewfish, Kings, Snapper on Bonito. They are one of the most effective baits as they are oily & quit bloody.

They are good bait for your type of fishing i.e. from the rocks in close. Over the cooler months dont be suprised if you crack a snapper over 40cm in close on an unweighted Bonito fillet.

    Take care!

    Butch

awesome tip might give it a go over winter.
