  1. Well that’s a great start - happy for you. Correct trim and weight distribution has a lot of effect on getting on a plane. The chines would definitely help planing if you had weight in the forward section of the boat regardless if it was choppy or calm. They would help deflect spray in a chop. Thanks for posting back and best of luck with it. Cheers Zoran

Great Stuff. Just came back from seeing Jersey Boys with my family - Xmas present from my two daughters. So I was right in the mood to listen to this !!!! Thanks !!!! Z
  3. Thanks Richard. I could see the 4/4 but it’s not just about the stats - you gotta be enjoying yourself otherwise it’s just “work”. there will be other times. Cheers Z
  4. Thanks Gordon. Mako is very good eating just stay below 180g per week due to mercury. We’ll schedule a trip out very soon I’m sure. The water was starting to look blue when the sun broke through. 👍 cheers Z
  5. Hey Sam. Yes productivity dropped - even the rate of burley output dropped off ! 😂 Regarding the PVC. It’s one of my early inventions- keeps the neighbours onside. cheers Z
  6. G'day Raiders, Following on from the Tight-lines Tuesday expedition of a few weeks back, I noticed that the weather again was being nice mid week and then forecast to change on the coming weekend (who is responsible for synchronising this ????) - so it had to be "Wet-a-Line Wednesday" or miss another week. Anyway, I also wanted to cement my theory around flatties and try to see if I could get 4/4 bag-out sessions in a row - I would then feel comfortable my flattie theory holds and I'm a consistent and competent flattie fisherman. So I contacted Ian, an ex-work mate (Wayne was not available) and we made a plan to hit the flathead grounds off Barrenjoey. Although Ian is comfortable around boats and is often around the Hawkesbury, this would be Ian's first offshore bottom bash session. Again, left my place at 5am and we were on the water out of Parsley Bay at 6am. Glassy conditions. Sped off out past the heads. Salted pillies and Berkly Jerk shad SPs on board it was all looking good on the plan. The first location at 50m was barren of flatties but full of slimies and yakkas - we boated 6 slimies and 2 horse yakkas and dropped them in the live bait tank. I lowered a live slimey to the bottom - no real takes but the rod developed a pull - and sure enough the slimey came up eaten around the gills - squid. We decided to hit the 60m mark. Here things improved the first 5 fish were red spot whiting, then we started on the flatties. By 8am we had 6 red spot and 4 flatties int he esky, but poor Ian was very very green around the gills, suffering and (*#$#$#$&ing (burleying). I also put out a live yakka to swim around the boat, and burleyed with the slimey frames - who knows ! Then for the 2nd time, while bottom bashing for flatties I hooked a shark. You would have expected the yakka was smashed - but no - this time a baby Mako took a Jerk Shad SP just as it hit bottom. The head shakes and speed told me this was no flattie. Anyway, happy to report the FG and paternoster knots held up ... and somehow all those shark teeth missed the mono and the Mako ended up in the esky !!!!! We called it stumps at about 10:30am as Ian was really looking forward to some terra-firma under his feet. So although I didn't quite get my 4/4, we were well on the way and we had a great feed in the esky. Cheers Zoran Here's a 2min video which captures the day.....
  7. In response to @Berleyguts question in another post here’s a diagram of how I wrap the line. I start with the sinker loop first. cheers Z
  8. I've added a diagram in the Paternoster post. Cheers Z
  9. Hey @Bobby.V just wondering if you have had a chance to take her out on the water and how she performed with the 9.9hp. That input would go a long way toward your decision I think. Cheers Z
  10. Thanks so much BN! Just sharing what I have learnt or discovered - hoping it helps someone else. Just like so many do on this site ! “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” ―Winston S. Churchill Cheers Zoran
  11. So I put up this DIY FG Knot Jig video about 20min after I posted the Paternoster Jig video ... and I was fully expecting that the FG would get much much more attention - I was so sure I would have put money on it ! .... But reality has shown that there is about 2x more interest and 3x more interaction on the paternoster !!! Stats, stats and more stats.... Cheers Z
  12. I use bait on one hook and SP on the other .... does that mean I should only keep half of the paternoster in the zip lock bag? 😂 Cheers Z
  13. I use the iOS version for iPhone and it runs on iPad (tablet). So the cheaper one in my case. There’s no need to pay for the HD version as far as I’m concerned. Cheers Z
  14. Cool.... search for Navionics ... you'll get the heaps of hits... Cheers Z
  15. Hi @stalwart, I use Navionics and love it. There's been a couple of posts on this previously. Can I suggest you try the search function and see if you have any additional questions to what has been covered. It's going to be quicker for you than waiting for folks to retype their answers. Cheers Zoran
  16. Hi Baz, I have attached a sketch that hopefully explains how to start and complete most of the FG knot. Hope that helps. Cheers Z
  17. May have been backbreaking but it’s just Inspirational ! Thanks. Z
  18. Hey @Bobby.V have you taken her out on the water? You may be surprised what your 9.9hp will do with a 3.7m tinnie (if correctly propped and trimmed). For comparison, I have a 15hp Aux on my 6.3m heavy fiberglass boat (with a 2500kg payload) and it will push me along at 10km/h. You may be pleasantly surprised what the 9.9hp will do with your 3.7m tinnie (2-300kg payload). I see that chine providing 3 functions - i. given the T profile it would significantly strengthen/stiffed that part of the hull ii. it would act as a chine - providing additional lift iii. it would deflect spray What ever you decide to do, I'd recommend it stays or is refitted after you wrap. Cheers Z
  19. Solid! Well done! cheers Zoran
  20. +1 with @King chaser and @Sea Ranger. When it comes to boats I always choose function over looks. Looks will get you an ooh ahh from your mates. Function will get you fish and home when the conditions change. Cheers Zoran
  21. Yup. I use a combination of things. Zip lock bags, easy solution and they pack down flat. They do tend to puncture if you pre-rig with hooks though, and can give me trouble with wet cold fingers. @rickmarlin62 previously posted a great idea of using those CD carriers - they are like a travel case with a zipper all around with sturdy plastic sleeves inside. I immediately went and found the last surviving one in our house - it now stores my hairtail wire rigs - as the wire is springy. This is a great re-useable solution, its just that they are getting harder and harder to find (keep an eye out at garage sales!) I predominantly now just use a section of pool noodle. The pool noodle is bulkier but has the benefit that you can pre rig with different size and types of hooks. everything is easy to see. I use toothpicks (with a hot glued bead on the end) to fix the loop and just wind the rest of the rig on using the hooks to secure it on the noodle. Easy and quick and re-useable. Picture attached. Cheers Zoran
  22. Good stuff Antony. I didn’t start this thread so it’s up to you. But it probably makes sense to start a hydraulic steering installation topic. Cheers Z
  23. Hahaha- I did use some ! Cheers Z
