  1. Hahaha.... should we be expecting any less ? Thanks for FAD update... still chilly it seems. Cheers Zoran
  2. Thanks for researching @savit, just had a look at that site: Garmin announced a new line of cartography products featuring the best of Navionics and Garmin content at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The new products include BlueChart g3 / BlueChart g3 Vision cartography for Europe and North America, and new LakeVü g3 / LakeVü g3 Ultra lake maps for the U.S. and Canada. They will be available for purchase on accessory cards and via download for existing customers. In the U.S. and Canada, the new charts will also be preloaded on the new Garmin GPSMAP 8600/8600 xsv series multifunction displays. I guess its great for the Europe, US and Canada guys .... not a lot of mention of Asia Pacific or Oceania in there at all. I guess I just have to figure out how to get my old Haines across the big blue pond so I can get value from these enhancements and the annual $34.99 going forward! Cheers Z
  3. Agree.... especially if its not being used for "Open Waters" . Ran that way for many many years with my Savage, single battery and 40HP Tohatsu. Cheers Z
  4. I think the above posts are discussing two different things when we use the term "Subscription" : 1) Navionics sells Charts (Gold, Platinum etc) that you insert into your GPS. As I understand it these charts are yours to use for the life of the memory card and will work with the data they have on them. You can pay to upgrade these charts (get the latest version of the charts), and in some cases you can also subscribe - for some additional online services (updates, waypoint storage etc). If you don't subscribe, you keep running with the maps that you have previously paid for or upgraded to. 2) Navionics also sells Apps that run on mobile devices. In the past (2012) these apps were sold One TIme Charge for a region (Au&NZ) ... and you could pretty well run with that as if it was a chart system like above. Sometimes they provided free updates, and fee Upgrades to the app/maps. Then about 3 years ago, they shifted to a Subscription model. You get the App (free) but you rent the regional map by Subscribing for a year. During that year you get all the chart updates enhancements etc. If you don't Subscribe to a region - the App provides very very dumb basic cartography until you subscribe. Cheers Z
  5. Dave mate .... I wouldn't dare go ANYWHERE with the Titanic 😳 !!!!
  6. Pretty sure I read that Garmin bought Navionics.... may be wrong though. But it would explain why in the reply from Navionics they focused on the value of the Garmin user integration... blah bah blah If you don't pay (subscribe) to the regional maps then its just very very dumb basic cartography. You also don't get the very detailed sonarcharts or the continuous updates etc. Yup... I purchased Navionics GOLD+ charts years ago for my combo Eagle Seacharter unit (now LEI) ~$300 10yr ago . Never updated the charts. The charts still run fine and GPS still works... its just lacks heaps of sonar detail (contour lines) for the reefs, headlands, estuaries and such which is valuable for fishing. Its now my fallback GPS onboard and I dedicate it as a dual freq sounder. Cheers Zoran
  7. Hey Raiders, Since I have been somewhat advocating Navionics Au&NZ (iPhone, iPad, Android) in different topics, I just want to bring to your attention that I recently discovered Navionics are implementing a significant price rise for the subscription. Boating Au&NZ had a $13.99 subscription fee ... (I used the non HD version, which worked fine on iPhones and iPads in my case). However this is going up to $34.99 !!!! 😳 Yup a 250% increase. I found this by accident as the last time I went into the Navionics Au&NZ App I got a message that this app would no longer receive upgrades - and that I should download Boating Marine&Lakes (your chart and data have been transferred). So I downloaded it. My waypoints were all transferred but when I checked Boating Marine&Lakes subscription its now priced at $34.99 😡 I wrote to Navionics ... asking if this was a teething error as part of transitioning licence entitlements as I did not use the HD version. Yesterday I received a one page reply about HOW GREAT THE UPGRADE WAS .... we now all get HD (I don't need it), we can all use it across all devices (I could before), how much better its going to be supporting only one product ( I only ever used one) .... I explained how surprisingly none of the benefits applied to me - they all benefited Navionics greatly - especially the 250% increase ! ...and how it's disappointing that Navionics feel they have such a dominant position and a captive market that they can blatantly gouge as they are doing here. I don't expect any further response. It's a good product but its left a really bad taste in my mouth.... going to keep my eyes open. Anyway, just thought I'd let everyone know. Cheers Zoran

    Gulpless !

+1 @Ryder, exactly what I do - btw those Chartreuse Pepper Neons are my favourites !!!!!. @bluefin they should revive in liquid. I’ve had some that dried out and they came back ok.... however I recommend that you don't try and resuscitate then --- they taste like $^&Q%! 🤓 Cheers Zoran
  9. Yup I still have some papers with written waypoints, and little booklets I purchased eons ago. I then went to spreadsheets to keep track of the waypoints. But now, I created an account in Navionics and sign in ... then chose an option to save all way points and routes to the "cloud". This also replicates the way points on all your signed in devices... so for instance, I often plot possible positions on my iPhone as its convenient and with me most times, all these points are then also shown on my iPad which is what I use on the boat for Navigation ... no retyping required. If you activate Community Edits (its like sharing)... you also see waypoints that other people had added (date, time, and any comments they may have entered about that waypoint). Cheers Zoran
  10. For you Rick - I even customized the boat a little - just keep posting your fishing hints! So I guess we should say - this is how Rick and the other Yamheads use the anchor clip 😂 Ok. Before I pack up my pencils are there any other make models that need a specific drawing so they can use the clip also - I can only imagine how distracting it must be to have the wrong motor on an anchoring sketch ?? Bahahaha You may also note that I stayed right away from a black motor in case it was assumed I had some bias ... so to all my Merc-mates ... trust me the clip works with a Merc set up as well. cheers Z
  11. +1 Navionics that’s my go to Navigation these days. All sounder contour research is done there. Re my GPS/sounder combo.I remove that from the boat as it’s parked in the driveway. I have purchased a spare charge cable and hooked that up to a 12v wall charger so I can use it in the house. Cheers Zoran
  12. ....See ... case and point..... you guys get excited !!!

    Like Jackets

I'm not sure about ULTRA, but maybe contact these guys ... they did Burke, Marline etc when I was doing my research before following down @PaddyT's path. http://www.aegirmarine.com.au/ BTW, I found AEGIR by first contacting Marlin ...and getting a list of their official endorsed service centres up and down NSW coast. If you have not done so, I suggest you contact Ultra or their distributors and maybe they can point you in the right direction. Cheers Zoran
  14. My last two trips out targeting flathead have resulted in a hook up of a 5ft grey nurse and a Mako (pup) ... both on the flathead paternosters. So that's a pretty good indication these predators hang around where we have been catching flathead. Like @kingie chaser and @Koalaboi have said mince them up for burley or use in crab traps. Cheers Zoran
  15. They are great for deeper water anchoring as you never have to lift the full weight of the anchor and chain vertically. Re clip direction - just remember heavy part of clip to anchor- heavy to heavy! Cheers Zoran
  16. Hahaha ... thanks Bear. Sometimes a picture is worth a 1000 words .... and it would have taken a 1000 at least to explain the correct rope threading. Also...as Jon said above, that clip can really snap at you ... and it happens especially when you have cold wet fingers !! Cheers Zoran PS- I was going to make the motor all white... but then realised our eTec mates would get all excited 😇.
  17. Like Rick, I used this style for nearly two decades until I replaced it with the anchor winch. I had 2 x 50m 12mm silver rope lengths spliced together, with another 45m 10mm rope spliced as backing. The spliced sections go through no problems. As Jon said.. you need to orientate the clip the correct way. The purpose of the clip is to allow the rope to slide through as you power the boat away .. but then hold the rope (keeping the chain and anchor suspended up near the buoy)... rather then let them slip back down. Cheers Zoran
  18. Hey Geoff, No problem mate.... I can't stop the brain working on things that interest me especially if I have a bit of spare time. I generally find TV/Netflix etc boring. Anyway, here's another interesting thing I stumbled across - it actually came in on my eBay feed - so go figure if Google is "listening in" on all my recent mentions of "Boat / Trailer" while using Google Chrome to access FR !!!!!! .. it's actually a bit Big Brother and worrying that this this came in on my eBay feed: Looks like Spitfire have a standard part to bolt on and convert to a drive on trailer ! It will definitely help eliminate damage from that first roller and I presume it relies on the wobble rollers to help center the hull for the 2nd roller. For full centering you could probably incorporate the V-bar that I built. Cheers Zoran
  19. Great Stuff Antony.... Go and enjoy her for a while - it will be best to put some hours on the water as input to making your future decisions. BTW, if you have a windscreen frame and are concerned about bending a perspex screen (it will craze !) , maybe consider Lexan instead of perspex. Lexan is flexible (but not as scratch resistant). This article will give you the low down: http://svmomo.blogspot.com/2009/12/replacing-boat-windows-polycarbonate-ie.html The other thing to consider is will you be mounting a windscreen wiper(s). They do come in handy especially once you have a bimini or hardtop and have battened down with clears at the helm area. If you are considering wipers - toughened glass screens are the go, but honestly I got away with a perspex screen and wiper for over a decade - no scratches especially if you only use the wiper when there is water on the screen. There's a place in Victoria Av Castle Hill off Showground Rd - you probably have driven past it - I have sourced perspex there previously. They will cut to size/shape that you want. I brought them either the old perspex screen or a cardboard cutout of what I wanted. Usually done the same day. So if it ends up being the more scratch resistant perspex consider making the front screen as 2 flat halves instead of one continuous curve. It will be much easier to fabricate DIY. There's a place at Smithfield that sells the aluminium profiles to sandwich the perspex and you can join the two flat front screen panes using their standard profiles as per the following : https://www.ullrich.com.au/pdfs/Brochure_pdfs/marine-sections.pdf Cheers Zoran
  20. +1 for that. I do the same ... its my go to rig for bottom bashing. Catches are bout 50:50 between bait and SP - but bigger models tend to be on plastic. Bait on bottom, berkley jerk shad on top. Has caught, flathead, mowong, whiting, ... leather jackets... and last trip a Mako pup !!! Cheers Zoran
  21. Hey @Poly2096, I think you need to share a bit more than just the length of your boat mate. Like what type of boating do you typically do. I presume your prime concern is starting the motor, so do you fish next to rocks or in areas that may be a bit dangerous - so need to be able to flick a switch to the reserve battery and start cranking... or do you have time to expose the terminals and attach a jump starter and crank. Its all depends on what you typically do - and how quickly you need to be up and going? Cheers Zoran PS - there was a fair bit of discussion on dual battery set up considerations in this post - I fished/boated for many years in a 15ft runabout with single battery set up (the backup was the pull start on the 40HP outboard). It really depends on what you do and how quickly you need to recover:
  22. Thanks for sharing @f1shen, as unwanted and undesirable that experience must have been. By sharing you’ve taken one for the team. We know the rule now! cheers Zoran
  23. Nice report mate.... glad you got out after all.... and got dinner to boot !! We'll schedule a next time when I am back from OS for sure. Cheers Zoran
  24. Nice report mate .... its always to great to have a break with the family.....some land based catch can be a bonus as you have shown. Bloody right ! .... perhaps get some of those 999999999 that you encountered on the water the other day to work a walking beat ! Cheers Zoran
  25. Great Stuff @antonywardle glad you got your "stree free" baby up and running - very happy for you !!!! You'll enjoy the offshore much more in a rig that you can stand up in and you never know but maybe that will help you resolve your burlying syndrome too. I bet it's also going to get a bit more crowded at the FADs and flathead grounds hahaha ! Cheers Zoran
